Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We stumbled upon this cafe when we were exploring around Warkworth. We had tea and brilliant Danish overlooking the beach. The friendly owner looked after us well and regailed us with local tales. A good place to stop.

Went for a walk New Year’s Day, out to the end of the wharf. Not expecting anything to be open, the cafe looked to have people inside. We made an inquiry if they were planning on opening later on (as it was still early). We...were informed yes, as we didn’t bring any money, we would comeback later. The gentleman there, asked if we wanted a coffee anyway? We enjoyed a pleasant coffee, came back later on to pay and enjoy a sit down & more coffee. Super location, great coffee and mind blowing service - thank you.More

Never never again - such a rude woman - basically felt like apologizing for daring to walk into her cafe - she just basically didn't want to bother with us. We queried the price of the toasties as the staff member who told us $7.50...when ordering, (there were no prices in sight) when my husband went to pay and queried the $8.50 charge she then waved the price list with $8.50 for a toastie in front of him. First time we'd seen it. Her manner and attitude was rude, terse and simply bad!!! As a local I'll be spreading the news - don't waste your time, your money or your energy.More

So this morning we stopped off to get a coffee and a bite to eat at Cafe Sandspit up at Snells Beach. We met the owner who was serving us and we were having a yarn. He said that he worked in south East Asia...for a while and became an admirer of their cultural relationship with spirituality. He said that regardless of if you were poor, or rich, it was your spirit and aura that mattered. Every morning they would gift one special person a free meal / drink because they vibed with there spirt. So today, this awesome guy calls us his “special people” & he turns around the eftpos machine to show us $1.00. He said he vibed with our aura and we’ve got a real good spiritual presence. We need more people like him in the world, spiritual awareness and kindness. Give a little to receive a littleMore

Fabulous cafe! Nestled into one of the most beautiful parts of NZ, the coffee is delicious and strong and the staff are awesome and friendly. I told them I needed to buy my coffee that morning as I usually use my stovetop, brought my stovetop...camping but not my coffee....., they gave me a bag of ground coffee to take away for FREE! Lovely, kind, generous staff, the interaction made my day!More

We visited the Cafe Sandspit on Saturday and enjoyed their idyllic setting by the wharf. However we were charged $18.50 for two cups of mediocre coffee and a croissant ....we won't be back.

All I wanted was 3 scones and drinks but was dished up the most abusive behaviour from the owner as I asked to see the scones! He then started his tirade! IM TIRED OF YOU PRIVILEGED WHITE PEOPLE COMING HERE WITH YOUR DEMANDS . YOU...WHITE ARSE PEOPLE ARE ALL THE SAME! I said I didn’t like his language and he pointed to his backside and ranted again about my white ARSE several times . He then went on to yell at me that he has a house and no mortgage and lives in peace with his wife and 2 children in his little piece of his land and he’s having a very hard time . I was speechless! Like a fool I wanted the food and coffee to take on the boat so I paid for it. I did say I’d go somewhere else and he screamed at his staff member to cancel my order as the lady is going somewhere else and said there wasn’t anywhere else!I had said I was in the tourism business and would be bringing several groups here in the next while and he screamed at me that he couldn’t care less! I can only think that this crazy man needs help so maybe someone who cares about him will read this and rescue him ! And by the way he was a white man so not sure about the abuse about me being a privileged white person . He also spoke in a very condescending way and insisted on calling me love. After reading the 2 previous posts I needed to do this! Yes times are tough but we are all slowly trying our best to get back to normal in beautiful New Zealand But the abuse from this tragic man is totally unacceptable!! He literally left me shaking in my shoes !More

Really do not recommend this cafe at all. The staff are extremely rude with zero understanding for customer service. I was blown away by the costs of a mere below average coffee and scone, when I asked how much it was it felt like he...just made up the price on the spot $17 !! As we were leaving he was having a fight with another customer and I felt like telling them not to bother. I will never go back to this cafe and I really do not recommend anyone to go. It’s no wonder there are no customers. Such a shame as this place has great potential if it wasn’t for the owner. They make you sign in on one side of the building and walk around to the other side to enter, how bloody confusing - When I asked how to get in, he was smarmy and rude. Still in shock and regret of ever coming into this place it doesn’t even deserve a 1!More

Never seems to be open, it is scruffy and run down looking. It was hopeless 2 years ago when I last ate there. I would not entertain the idea of dining there from outside appearances. The owners need to smarten it up as it has...one of the best sites in NZ. If Rick Stein could get his hands on this place it would be a world beater.More

Once you’ve checked in for the ferry, make sure to pop across and grab a coffee from the friendly team at this little spot on the water. Wish we’d had more time as it looked like a great spot for a meal too.
