I meet with 2 friends at The Talbot every year for a pre Christmas meal. Last Friday evening we all ordered roast turkey dinner which was beautifully cooked and very tasty. Desserts afterwards were great too. Staff were friendly and service was good. Another very...enjoyable evening at the Talbot Inn.More
Wow wow wow! An absolute local gem. This restaurant/old village pub is perfect for family and friends visits. We moved to the area last year and it’s become our new local with us naturally taking all our family and friends! We recently experienced the tasting...menu evening that they do on the last Friday of the month with the wine pairing. The staff were exceptional and the food phenomenal. Huge shout out to Josie. We have since recommended to it the rest of our family in Barnsley. It was the perfect occasion to celebrate a family meal with my parents who aren’t from the area. The vibe, atmosphere and decor are brilliant. In addition, we have spent many Sundays getting a roast dinner which are brilliant. We sometimes sit downstairs in the bar area when we have the dog and cannot fault the service or quality of food having experienced both. The downstairs pub area is lovely and cosy with the fire on. The dates and steaks night on a Thursday is more than worth the visit! I have also been on a Saturday lunch for their sandwiches and Saturday evening for drinks and it’s nice to see they have loyal staff members you recognise each time. If you need a go to for all occasions, attentive staff and excellent food in a hearty pub/restaurant this is your go to.More
Great local restaurant separate from the pub downstairs. New menus with great choice and interesting food . The duck was fabulous and desert just devine . Staff as attentive as always would highly recommend it
Went for parent’s 60th wedding anniversary there was 16 of us. We had a table upstairs which was great with a cosy atmosphere. The meal was lovely and we all throughly enjoyed it. The staff were great and very attentive.
Lovely pub meal - hearty fish pie, classic burger, lemon tart and cheese board. Couple of good pints, good atmosphere - will call again.
Perfect Sunday lunch. The food was lovely and the service was excellent (thank you Harry) Great time 😊
I wish I lived nearer...I would eat here every week. Fantastic service. The food was top top quality. Prawn starter well presented and good quality but the mains....halibut absolutely perfect. Good value. Pretty close to Michelin standard.
Great little restaurant. The staff were super friendly and very professional. The atmosphere (and decor) were great too. Loved the choice on the menu, all reasonably priced and the food itself was great. We all loved what we'd chosen. I would definitely recommend this restaurant....I bet their Sunday lunches are fab tooMore
We’ve been coming to the Talbot for many years, eating in both the bar and restaurant, and it never disappoints. We ate in the restaurant on this occasion. The food and service were exceptional as usual. My wife and I shared the Chateaubriand which was...outstanding - cooked to perfection and great value for money. Needless to say, we’ll be back. https://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/ShowUserReviews-g6091987-d815621-r914362739-The_Talbot_Inn-Mapplewell_Barnsley_South_Yorkshire_England.html#More
Lovely pub with excellent food and friendly staff, went for Sunday lunch and couldn't fault a thing. Generous food portions, piping hot, very tasty, sensible pricing. Definitely be back and soon, also dog friendly in the bar area.
Old village pub which one assumes must have spent most of its life as a miners' pub. Internally it has been heavily modernised to the extent that there is little left of the original pub, except for the wooden beams. One the bar there is...an excellent range of mainly locally brewed ales, including some from Nailmaker Brewery which runs the pub. Food is high quality and reasonably priced for what it is, and they also do special promotions on certain days of the week. I enjoyed the Crispy Pork Belly, which has long been a personal favourite of mine. Staff make everyone feel very welcome.More
Was poor today not been in for a while but food wasn't amazing.left half of mine. Doesn't seem to have changed menu much in booklet.
Sad to say soup I ordered was not good taken back and either watered down or milk added to it was more a look of a curry sauce rather than carrot and coriander soup.
Dropped in Saturday lunchtime having been recommended by a friend. We were not disappointed. Lovely food, a wonderful BLT with fantastic chips. Service was really good, beer great and the wine went down well. Spotlessly clean and really well decorated. Will be back for a...Sunday lunch in the restaurant.More
