Loved this place for the food although $18-20 for an entree at a Mexican restaurant is getting a little pricey. When I went there was no wait so I cannot speak to the long wait times although I can see how this place could get pretty crowded at peak times. Their special Asada (hung on a fence for weeks or... We arrived at El Charro at about 6:30 on a Thursday evening and were told that it would be a 25 minute wait. The atmosphere was quite attractive and our Tucson friend assured us that the food was good so we stayed. What a mistake! Our friend's order was not as she ordered. My husband reported that his chicken mole... More

The tortilla soup was not that great, and the interesting sounding chicken dish stuffed with a tamale was spoiled by being overcooked. On the upside, the atmosphere is great as always and the margaritas were very good. We have eaten here before when it was good, but not this time.

I tried this restaurant several times and left unsatisfied with the food and the service. Some people love their food but I have eaten much better Mexican food, elsewhere in town.

Good authentic Sonoran Mexican food. This family owned restaurant has been around since 1922. The clean surroundings take you back to that time. It has gained national recognition. The staff makes you feel like a long time customer. As it is one of a few popular downtown Mexican restaurants, get there a little early for lunch.

Food was fantastic. I had the carne seca - best ever! Portions were large. Staff was very friendly. Highly recommend this place for authentic Mexican food.

I read about El Charro and their food a while ago in Gourmet Magazine. I then researched best Mexican restaurant in Tucson and it came up. Such history and great reviews, had to try and bring my family after day at Tombstone. This was an amazing end to an amazing day. Hands down some of the most authentic and incredible... More

What a great place. Sunday early evening on a busy Tucson weekend. Was immediately seated and drinks ordered. There for HAPPY HOUR and $4 Margaritas plus a happy hour menu. Four for dinner, drinks and appetizers for under $85. A great deal. Food was excellent and our server, Omar, was wonderful. We will be back. Thank you Carlotta.

You should expect authentic Mexican food only 60 miles from the border and El Charro delivers some of the best. Either eat early or make a reservation, but don't miss this Epicurean delight.

Colorful and fun place, good Mexican food, good service, reasonably priced; open when we wanted it (3 in the afternoon), two blocks from El Presidio B.
