Add us to the list of fans. I got the vegetable stuffed poblano, and it was waaay above average - especially for a cuisine that doesn't usually cater to us. Everything else was good too - the service, the margaritas, the salsa. Definitely would come here again. Even on a busy Friday night.

We sat outside and the atmosphere was romantic, fun, and we'll done. Twinkling lights, mexican music, and gently falling leaves added to the ambiance. Assorted appetizers were perfectly done and delicious. Grilled meats were beautifully seared, and tender at the same time. Drinks were generous and reasonably priced. There is a reason this resteraunt is 85 years old. Staff attentive and... More

Hard to choose but ended up with the shrimp and rice special of the night and a jalapeño margarita! Never disappoints!

My family and I ate here for Sunday brunch. Monica was our server and she was so much fun!! The food was amazing and the atmosphere was so charming. A friend of mine recommended this restaurant to get away from some of the more touristy spots and she was right. Wonderful margarita as well!!

Stayed at Gunter hotel. In town to see a show at The Majestic. Asked desk staff to recommend an authentic, good Mexican restaurant. Something not just a big chain on the river walk. She immediate said "when i eat, I go to la fonda". It's on the other side of the highway and looks sketchy getting there but once we... More

Wonderful restaurant in the neighborhoods. Away from the chaos of the Riverwalk areas. Wonderful food. Chips and salsa were the best that we've had while in San Antonio.

this is one of the oldest Mexican restaurants in SA, many people have eaten here such as John Wayne, general etc. It is a little pricey but worth it. The queso was very good and the chille relleno was exceptional. Make sure you watch out for the jallepeno's they do not remove seeds and that makes it much hotter.

Service is impeccable. Established in the 1930s, carpeted, sedate atmosphere. In addition to their version of Tex Mex, steaks etc also on the menu. Their benchmark Mexican plate is priced at $18. More expensive then comparable equal quality Tex Mex here in San Antonio where I live. Full bar. Parking across the street.

The food is upscale Tex-Mex with additional specialty dishes from Mexico. Daily specials are reasonably priced. Margaritas are made with fresh squeezed lime juice, top-shelf tequila and prepared like ones you get in high-end restaurants in Monterrey and Mexico City The staff is excellent and as such, you see very little turn-over. They work hard, they know the menu and... More
