Having lived in San Antonio for a while, we often received recommendations to dine here. Just never enough time and too many other places to try. We finally made it, and now wonder what took us so long! We had lunch on a weekday. Great service and fantastic food. We started with the additional salsas available to go with the... More

In another review I stated that the best part of visiting the River Walk is that I could park my car and never touch it again until I leave. La Fonda on Main is the one exception to that rule. It is by far my favorite Mexican restaurant, not only in San Antonio, but anywhere. After 49 years in Texas,... More

Great food and a delightful outside patio. This is a delish Mexican restaurant. We had wonderful service in a charming environment. The outside patio is under the trees with lovely lighting! Our server took very good care of us and all of our food was tasty!

We made a reservation for a family dinner on New Year's Day upon the recommendation of a friend while visiting town, and we were very happy we did! The atmosphere was friendly and welcoming, ambience was authentic, service was fantastic, and we loved the variety and quality of food. We sat outdoors on the patio on a lovely evening, and... More

I grew up dining in this restaurant when it belonged to the founding family. When Cappy Lawton bought it, he made some improvements to the building and to the menu. However, my last 2 visits have been less than satisfactory where the food is concerned. Last visit, I enjoyed a mixed-grill kabob, and the meats were delicious. Unfortunately, the rice... More

I was very happy that the waitress let me order a la carte. I had one fish taco and one chicken enchilada with mole sauce. They also surprised me with a bowl of burracha beans. Everything was delicious. I ate just the enchilada and beans and took home the fish taco which was great for lunch the next day. My... More

Start to finish superb! They serve a variety of margaritas. We chose prickly pear on the rocks (cactus gran prix) and a top shelf with raspberry liquor topping both excellent. They have Taylor margarita machines which always produce a good during. Chips and salsa were tasty and the queso bistek were a great start. I had the oak grilled Fajitas... More

My wife and i went there. We liked the food a lot. The environment was also good Mexican-like. The waitress took longer than usual sometimes so that could have been better. I will still recommend it!

We started the evening with margaritas which were average at best. For appetizers, we ordered the daily special, empanadas de huitlacoche (a very tasty corn fungus!) which was truly exceptional. Guacamole came next. Not great and the chips, though freshly made, we're thin and tasteless. My wife's main course, spinach enchiladas, we're wonderful while my shrimp fajitas was good but... More
