The Cottage boasts an excellent reputation. Perhaps our opinion was influenced by that rep, but we came away dissapointed. Most everything seemed just a bit off the mark. Although the restaurant is in a cozy small vintage cottage, the rooms had too many tables for...More

We didn't expect to find a restaurant offering fine European style dining in an old house in Flagstaff.

My wife and I had a wonderful meal! The salmon appetizer was excellent. The appetizer reminded us of having bagel and lox! The pork tenderloin with polenta and peach had great flavor. This dish is definitely worth ordering! We also enjoyed the bistro steak and...More

The food and service was simply terrific. Highly recommend this for any occasion. The change to the French Bistro has been a great success as far as I am concerned. One of our party has a garlic allergy and they went out of the way...More

We were seated in a booth near the kitchen, and while it was a comfortable temperature outside, it was uncomfortably warm where we were seated -- I would estimate 85 degrees. There is no air conditioning in this expensive restaurant, so we asked for a...More

A delightful experience. Restaurant is under a new owner for the past year or so but was in existence for around 25 years before. A very nice surprise - good quality and good service. This is the restaurant for the francophile. Everything French. The meal...More

Chef Scott is killing it. Everything was delicious. This was our 4th experience here since the change of ownership. Nothing disappoints.

Located in a fairly grimey part of downtown Flagstaff near the railroad tracks and hobo area, this cottage is a civilized sanctuary. We spent a week in the city and I can say this was the closest thing Flagstaff gets to fine dining. Everything was...More

Welcome to The Cottage, formerly The Cottage Place. Join Chef Scott Heinonen and his team for farmhouse bistro cuisine inspired by the flavors of the French countryside. After 6 weeks of refreshing renovations, we are officially open for dinner and are currently accepting reservations. The Cottage Chef Owner Scott Heinonen is a graduate from the School of Hotel and Restaurant Management at Northern Arizona University in Flagstaff, Arizona. Over the past 30 years, Heinonen has cooked throughout the Southwest, Pacific Northwest and Northern California. He has also completed numerous continuing education courses at The Culinary Institute of America at Greystone in Napa Valley. A highlight of this time was his stint as a private chef for Sir Paul McCartney and Heather Mills. Returning to Flagstaff in 2005, Heinonen was the opening chef of the popular Cuvee 928 Wine Bar & Cafe, where his cooking was met with rave reviews and created a culinary buzz with local gourmands. Following this time at Cuvee, Heinonen fulfilled a lifelong goal of operating his own restaurant. Tinderbox Kitchen opened in May of 2009, leading the culinary resurgence of Flagstaff and San Francisco Street’s “Southside.” Heinonen’s concept of “American Comfort Food Redefined” quickly made Tinderbox a regional favorite, garnering numerous accolades and creating an stellar reputation statewide. 2017 brings a new culinary chapter for Heinonen with the opening of The Cottage, formerly the Cottage Place. He has transformed this long time, Flagstaff fine dining restaurant into a stylish farmhouse French bistro, which opened April 23, 2017 for dinner service. The Cottage cuisine reflects the regional country dishes of France, interpreted with Heinonen’s modern sensibility, incorporating locally sourced ingredients. Chef Heinonen’s culinary passion is deeply rooted in cooking with the seasons and the ever-changing menu of The Cottage will emanate this philosophy. Diners can look forward to exploring French cuisine prepared with heart and soul.
