This is a funky and fun restaurant. The service was wonderful - quick and friendly. The interior is cozy and adventurous - lots of color but still intimate, with wall-long couches creating a "living room" feel. The food was spectacular. Between the incredible, and very large portion of, Pad Thai and our burger, we couldn't be happier with our meal.... More

I have eaten at many other restaurants around Newport over the years but since discovering the Salvation Cafe don't choose to look any further for fresh seafood (and other delectable treats) cooked and presented to perfection with a contemporary flair in a funky and fun environment replete with red and orange walls, formica tables, and tiki bar. If you are... More

Hi Susan- Thanks so much for your feedback and for liking our food and atmosphere. We have been known to walk a fine line between funky and junky but we are lucky to have Chef James Colleran uplift our free wheelin' flair with some of the best, freshest food in town. Who needs a view of the water when you... More

I go to here sometimes, not too often. Dinner menu is better than brunch. Pad Thai is probably their best dish and also a cheese cake. It is funky and hippy place i a conservative Newport. Waitstaff needs to be trained better.

Despite considerable effort, I can't find a reason to give this restaurant less than 5 stars! The eclectic exterior and bar area in front belie a deeper interior that is both well appointed and comfortable: exposed beams, antiqued ship lap, comfortable seating, mellow jazz and blues playing at the perfect conversational volume, and a mostly glass back wall (and doors)... Hi Llonie- What a lovely review. There are lots of different reasons why one opens a restaurant but for me, it is for the feeling that you said was evoked with your meal. Interesting food, warm atmosphere and a comfortable connection with the locals. I'm ecstatic to hear that was your experience and thank you so much for sharing it.... More

Funky and fun and the menu makes it hard to decide. Usually get their fabulous salmon but last night had the Lobster Mac and Cheese special. Of course, had to order the Fried Spinach on the side. This place never disappoints!

We went to this restaurant with our niece who lives in Newport. We wanted to get off the tourist grid an d Broadway fit the bill. The atmosphere was high energy, but sometimes it was difficult to hear each other. Service was good and fast. The food was ok. Two of us had the Pad Thai, and my husband had... More

Sorry, this sounds truly underwhelming. Usually our Pad Thai and Bolognese get great reviews so I spoke to the kitchen to address their attention to detail, you're only as good as your last plate! Also, in case you give us another chance in the future we have two dining rooms when the outdoors is closed. One is in the front... More

The ingredients are fresh and the food is tasty, somewhat exotic and fun! In summer you can sit outdoors in the courtyard. In winter, it's cozy. I prefer the quieter back room to the more crowded front room by the bar. As a vegetarian who mostly eats vegan, sometimes I've gone off diet slightly (for the pad thai, for instance)... More

Newport was packed, the cafe was busy but the staff was attentive and polite. The food was good and well worth the price. The beer was cold and the weather beautiful.

We've enjoyed the Salvation Cafe a couple of times recently and have had very good experiences. I'm hooked on their short rib burger and their beer selection is quite good. My wife enjoys the salad selections. Sitting out on their back deck on a warm summer night is about as good as it gets. Service has always been friendly and... More
