We booked a table here over Facebook after reading reviews and saw that the best tables may be reserved for hotel guests. They got back to me within 24 hours and booked us in at an outdoor riverside table 🙂 This was also the same day we wanted to dine. Table booked for 7pm Saturday night, the place was not full on arrival or leaving so I guess you could leave it to chance. Like any decent restaurant back home in England, we got free water and bread With butter and we could not fault the waiters. Kept our water topped up and checked if we needed anything. We had the degustation menu for 150,000 kip as this included 4 tasters of the main dishes plus mango sticky rice dessert. We also tried the Sticky rice starter which came with 5 dips (delicious) and the pork main. Everything tasted great! Sadly, this is the only place we have come across in Vang Vieng to do good traditional food in a nice setting. The setting is so romantic too. The higher prices were well worth blowing our budget! Good cocktails too!

This has a beautiful setting if, like us, you get to sit on the balcony looking over the pool/gardens and through the trees to the river. We walked in at about 7.20pm with no booking and got the last table but still luckily, as we were a two, got a terrace table. It was fairly busy and so had a nice ambience - everyone was pretty smartly dressed for a change! We both had very nice glasses of wine. My fiancee chose a vegetarian dish with salad, which came with sticky rice. It was lovely, full of flavours and filling. Not something you'd get in the street or from a "local" street style restaurant. My Laos beef stew was ok. Nothing special, nice flavours, usual chewy Lao beef with steamed rice. In truth I'd had "as good" at Street food level in fact including at a small local place round the corner the night before. I'm not complaint, it just wasn't fabulous or anything. By Lao standards it was on the dearer side at 220,000kip but by UK standards very cheap at £18.99. They took credit card with only a 2.5% charge which is a bonus here. Staff were very good. So, smart, nice setting, good vibe, nice/very nice food, good wine, good service and in UK terms good value.

The restaurant overlook the mountains and the river, quiet and in a delicate colonial atmosphere both cuisine and service are up to international standards. Special thank you to Singto and Kid who took care of us during our whole stay in the hotel - breakfast, lunch and dinner. Highly recommended!

We were staying at the Riverside Boutique Resort for 3 nights and since the Restaurant du Crabe d'Or is inside the property we went there for dinner on our first night. We loved it so much that we ended up having dinner there every night! The view from the restaurant is absolutely amazing, on one side you have a view over the pool and on the other side over the river. I would highly recommend booking an outside table in advance because the restaurant is quite busy during the evenings! I'm vegetarian and sometimes it's hard to find delicious vegetarian food when I'm traveling, but not in this restaurant! They had many different vegetarian dishes and it was clearly marked on the menu which was a huge help for me. My absolute favourite was the roasted eggplant with tomato and goat cheese and I also loved the fresh spring rolls and the fried noodles with vegetables. The staff is extremely kind and helpful, I loved that everybody was smiling at us. We always received complimentary water and they refilled our glasses many times while we were having dinner. All in all I can absolutely recommend this restaurant if you're visiting Vang Vieng! The food, the view, the staff - everything is perfect.

We dined here three nights in a row on the 2/3/4 of January 2020. The Laos chef is highly accomplished and she has taken French techniques and created a wonderful fusion menu with beautifully executed and presented food. The degustation menu was delicious, the wine list generous and the cocktails thoughtful and fun. Each night we spent about three hours lingering at this beautiful restaurant. Service was charming and attentive. Make sure you book as each table outside both downstairs and on the upstairs deck was fully booked with problem arriving between 6.30 and 8.30pm. One suggestion would be to have a rule for no children after 7.30pm or 8pm. It’s not easy to keep toddlers occupied and on one occasion two kids ran around screaming for an hour or so. Very difficult for the staff to do anything as the parents appeared oblivious. Khop chai lai lai so much to the team for three unforgettable evenings. See you next time!

Came here for dinner and was absolutely blown away by the unique flavours and dishes. However, the standout for the night was actually the service, with the staff all incredibly friendly and well-spoken. In particular, Chaikeng was very approachable and made our experience so good we had to come back! I would highly recommend the laarb pasta for those unsure about Laotian food - it was a great fusion of Laotian flavours within a familiar Western dish. Absolutely worth the extra money you pay, particularly for the riverside cocktails at the bar downstairs!

The restaurant was excellent. Given the low traffic due to Covid travel restrictions, Kid and the restaurant staff were more than accommodating. The food was great and the atmosphere beside the river was tranquil. We highly recommend visiting during Covid times or beyond.

We were staying at the hotel itself and we wanted to try authentic Lao dishes, so we looked for the best restaurants and on all the websites they recommended the hotel restaurant as the best option. Believe me they did not lie! We went for dinner and they gave us a beautiful table on the terrace with views of the river and the mountains. We ordered the five-course Lao tasting menu and mango sticky rice for dessert. The dishes all come at the same time and they were all delicious, but my favorite was the Larb, I think I could eat it every day! We were also served bread and butter with the meal, the staff were incredibly friendly and explained to us about each dish and that it had been made with fresh ingredients bought that morning at the market. The dinner atmosphere was very romantic with pleasant music and illuminated lanterns hanging from a beautiful tree. Definitely an experience you don't want to miss in Vang Vieng!

We tried to book the Hotel for our trip to Vang Vieng which was full but we did promise ourselves a trip to Crabe d’Or before left. They had no seating outdoors as all booked ( but empty ) so we sat inside and opted for the Laos degustation. Am sorry to say that it was a disappointment compared to all our other meals in Laos including dry fish and a generally tasteless selection. It’s a decent venue and the staff were brilliant but the food, a miss for us on this occasion. Plus the outdoor seating was still empty when we left. Enjoy.....

Dear guest, we are sorry you found your meal disappointing. We try not to make our Lao dishes too spicy to accommodate Western expectations but this was probably a mistake in your case. Regarding the outdoor seating, it is allocated as a matter of priority to in-house guests. However, we generally have enough outdoor space for outside guests as well, and we always encourage them to book in advance and specify that they want an outdoor table. Best regards,

Vang vieng is a super dusty town geared toward backpackers who like to cross around in buggies. The town is filthy so to find a nice place like this restaurant is like a breath of fresh air. We did the Lao tasting menu which was fabulous. The service you get is outstanding and very friendly, especially when you compare it to other places in this town. It is a little more expensive but all reasonable. We paid 40 dollars for two persons including 4 drinks and coffees . Don’t hesitate and go here

This was our “fancy dinner” on the 3 night stay in Vang Vieng. We were not disappointed! Beautiful setting, exceptional customer service and fabulous food. We had the degustation, which was about $25 AUD for 5 set courses, all served at the same time. So much yummy food! We also indulged in some delicious cocktails. Highly recommend.

What an amazing restaurant! The team was sweet and attentive, they pay attention to little details to make sure that you had the best time. I had the chance to celebrate my birthday at the restaurant and they offered complimentary cake and sang happy birthday. Also they remember patrons and they preferred sittings, they always make sure to chitchat and inquire about your stay and the activities you did during the day. The food is delicious and there is a great selection on the menu wheter you wanna try local cuisine or uou are homesick and miss Occidental food. I also really enjoyed the discount they offered, to guests who were staying on the resort, on meals and drinks. I highly recommend this restaurant for its amazing staff and Kit, the operational manager, was so sweet and made sure all our needs were cathetered to.

Found this little gem thanks to my travel book and was not dispappointed. Lovely set up by the Riverside. You can enjoy a drink by the river or have a nice dinner upstairs. The staff was mots accomodating and did their best to make us feel welcome. The food very good, everything we tasted was well cooked (notably the pumking soup and the duck salad).

Just beside the bridge is the #1 local restaurant for a reason. The Happy Mango is good, this place is great. Service was professional and the 5 course menu ($13.5) was a bargain. Glasses of wine are 1/2 price until 7pm. Suggest you make a reservation as there are about 11 outside tables with half having a good view of the river. Property is nice to walk off dinner.
