Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

The food is excellent. Best I had on the island and best (of this type of food) I've ever had anywhere. Our family went back several times during our stay. The owner is very warm and welcoming. He's also very kind and twice a week...delivers meals to the local orphans and children whose parents can't afford to enough food.) The prices are literally half of what you'd pay at the hotel restaurants along the beach. Bring cash (US dollars, euros or TZ shillings) because there's no card reader. Note: Don't expect the same pace of service as you get in Europe or North America. Things move a little slower there. That's just the way it is. And the food is more than worth the wait.More

What a great local restaurant! Situated in a village in a side road near big hotels. You will need a taxi if not staying in Matemwe and it’s off the beaten track. However it’s amazing food. The owner also provides food 3-4 times each week...for the local community. This place is not to be missed.More

Great spot with really friendly staff. It’s pretty simple to look at but the food is amazing! We had the prawns and white snapper and even the grilled vegetables were really tasty! It’s even better when you learn about the voluntary work the restaurant does...to feed local children. Make sure you go here when you visit MatemweMore

We had an amazing experience at Marlin in Matemwe! Abbas and his partner are incredibly welcoming and make sure every guest has a fantastic visit. We had the catch of the day and the prawns, and I can't stress enough how fresh and delicious everything...tasted. It's inspiring to see Abbas, a passionate former hotel chef, and his partner succeed in their own venture. Although the location might seem unusual at first, being a bit hidden behind the beach and next to some local housing, it adds to the authenticity and charm of the place. This unique setting is a reminder to look beyond first impressions and discover the true gems of Matemwe. The effort to find this restaurant is absolutely worth it for the exceptional food and the warm hospitality. Highly recommended!More

The owner of the restaurant is really friendly. He supports local kids and provides food so everybody has enough to eat. We went there to have dinner and the food was really really good and the prices reasonable. We had veggy curry with rice and...Pilau with fish. Excellent! 5/5 So we decided to go there a 2nd time and we were unfortunately disappointed. The veggy curry was oversalted and the grilled prawns just weren't good. 2/5 But all in all, give it a try.More

My friends and I visited Marlin Local Restaurant during our trip to Matemwe, Tanzania. We found this place on Google and decided to give it a try. We were not disappointed! The restaurant is small and cozy, with a friendly and welcoming atmosphere. The owner...greeted us warmly and helped us choose our dishes. We ordered a fish soup, Palau rice and green banana with octopus. The food was delicious, fresh and flavorful. The portions were generous and the price was reasonable. We enjoyed our meal and had a great time at Marlin Local Restaurant. We highly recommend this place to anyone looking for a tasty and authentic local cuisine in Matemwe.More

This was a great meal in a great locations hosted by great people. We were recommended by a friend to visit and it turned out to be the best meal we had here in Matemwe. The food was great value for money. It was a...1 minute walk from the beach, but that was no problem as the general aesthetic was still amazing. The host was incredibly friendly and welcoming. Would definitely recommend to anyone visiting Matemwe.More

Visited marlin restaurant as the reviews were good and the hotel restaurants were letting us down. Lovely food and welcome - the restaurant is behind the beachfront, so doesn’t have a view, but it has everything else! Lovely food at a reasonable price and genuinely...welcoming staff. 4 meals, drinks and a bottle of wine USD50More

This restaurant probably serves the best seafood in Zanzibar AND with an unbeatable price! It is in the Matemwe village, but only a one minute walk from the beachfront. The waiter was very friendly and patiently explained the menu to us. We ordered the octopus...cooked in coconut curry, and a grilled king fish. The octopus was very tender and the curry was superb with a rich taste of coconut. The king fish was excellent as well. As the food was so good, we went for a seafood platter for the next day. This huge platter got the rock lobster, baby lobster (they call it cigal), king fish, octopus, calamari, and shrimps. All of them were very fresh and grilled to perfection. Food from heaven! Third night, we had the grilled lobster again, and tried a fish pilau which is rice cooked with spices. Best pilau we’ve ever had! We also ordered some salads and soups for the three meals we had here. All were delicious with fresh ingredients. Hope we can return one day!More

Marlin is the best restaurant ever!! We found Marlin on our first day in Matemwe after we got frustrated with overpriced food at our accommodation. We ate there every day and the food was always marvelous for a very reasonable price. We also tried other...local restaurants in Matemwe but Marlin is by far the best!! Also the staff is great and very considerate. On our wedding day they even decorated our usual spot and cooked a special meal for us. Also the chefs are open to special requests and service is very fast. Would always go there again. ASANTE SANA Suleyman, Abbas, Chichi, Ali and Hassan. So long marafiki and keep up with the good work! To all the German people out there: Nein, man bekommt keine Magenprobleme! Es ist alles sehr sauber und frisch. Guten Appetit!More
