We eat here three times while staying in askrigg.after our first visit, which was on the weekend, we were impressed with the quality of the food and the high standard of service, so we made a point to return and return again. One of the main reasons to book again was that we were spoilt for choice, and we wanted to try other dishes on the menu. Everything on the menu is so good, the quality, the portion size are good value for money. The staff are very good, very welcoming and efficient, couldn't fault. Would recommend booking in advance, even during the week,as most tables were taken - there seems to be a lot of self-catering accommodation in Askrigg, so good for business. ( The trio of rhubarb, on the sweet menu, seemed to be popular -very good- save some room! )

Friendly staff, great setting, prompt service. On the whole food was lovely. I had steak pie, it was a slice of a larger pie, I could see how dry it was as it was served, so dry I struggled to cut through the pastry and the meat on the edges was not edible.

Highly recommend the food here. We made a late booking and arrived early. They serve food from 5.30 but took our order just after 5 and served by 5.30. We had the steak pie, which would have done Desperate Dan proud. DH actually couldn't finish it. Dd had the Cumberland sausage which she declared to be delicious and not greasy. I had lambs liver. I was asked how I liked it cooked, it came perfectly pink with a home made potato and vegetable patty and lashings of fresh vegetable. Incredible value and quality. They also had dog treats to buy, so even the fur babies got a treat.

I’m not one to write a negative review, especially about an a pub business having experienced first hand how hard it to run a pub but I wanted to be honest and give this feedback. We’d driven from Leeds and stopped off for some lunch on a Sunday afternoon. I asked the lady at the bar if they were still serving food and she said they were so we were seated in the restaurant section where there was a few other couples eating. My partner was admiring the big Yorkshire puddings on the other diners tables so we both ordered the beef Sunday roast. When it arrived we were a bit disappointed to see that there wasn’t any yorkshires on ours. The young lad who served us seems disinterested so when the lady who’d greeted us asked if all was ok, I politely asked if they had any yorkshires and she informed me that they were reserved for bookings (the remaining ones) and they had a film crew in filming Yorkshire Vet. I said I understood because I didn’t want to cause a fuss but afterwards I watched as other customers received their full dinners I thought it was pretty poor. It’s understandable to run out of things but you should let people know at the outset so they have the option to change their mind or apologise before they have to ask and maybe over more of something else or a reduction of price. But to say it’s because we didn’t book and that a film crew was there implied that we weren’t as important as other customers, or an inconvenience, which isn’t right. I know it sounds petty (and it’s only Yorkshire puddings!) but it just tainted the experience and we didn’t stay after that. The food we had was lovely and so was the pub but I think you need to make all your customers feel valued regardless if they’ve booked or are locals/film crew because we are still spending our hard earned money.

We visit this pub a lot as we only live 15 miles away & they serve food all day 😋 Ah But They DONT 🥺 Not Between 5 & 6 😩 We arrived just after 5, but could not get a meal. despite not one table being occupied. From 5 till after 6 no one sat at a table to eat. 🙄 Prior to this visit, I would rate the kings Arms highly. Although expensive, serving food after lunchtime & before teatime is a huge plus for us. I guess the tourist season will now keep us away till Winter (if we return) 🤔

Very disappointed .My wife’s Rosti was small, not value for money-and the meat in my steak pie was chilled . Apologies were unconvincing . Poor customer care. We are regular visitors to this area and have eaten here many times but won’t be returning

Things will go wrong with restaurant bookings and just about everything that could go wrong with this booking did. The measure of an establishment is how they deal with the problems as they arise. In this regard the staff at the Kings Arms were exemplary. We received a complimentary bottle of wine and there was no charge for a meal that had initially been overlooked. The staff were apologetic without being obsequious and maintained a cheerful demeanour throughout. What really saved the day however was the quality of the cooking which was outstanding. All six of us thoroughly enjoyed our meals and my wife and myself returned the next evening and the food was just as good. Well done.

There are three pubs/restaurants/hotels (?) in Askrigg. We have been coming here for over 30 years and seen so many changes in all three we feel really qualified to comment on the latest change. The latest change is The Kings Arms is now the best place to have an amazing Sunday Lunch with such a fantastic atmosphere. We sat in the bar area which has the most relaxing atmosphere made all the better for not having a television spoiling everyone’s delightful experience. With friendly dogs very welcome and space to relax and enjoy a local pint of Askrigg Ale ( brewed just down the road) this is truly the place to be. Where locals rub shoulders with us out of towners and all get on so well who can’t help but just relax and enjoy yourself. Our lunch was a delight and so filling it was amazing. Arriving hot and prompt I cannot recommend the food more. You do not have to travel any further for the best of times and I can only add, book in advance to avoid disappointment. Lastly I did ask for a doggie bag at the end and came away with more than I expected, see my photo - This was a joke by the way, simply added for cuteness!!

Expectations were high having been recommended this place and having seen the reviews. Perhaps an off day but really disappointed. Arrived for lunch, certainly no warm welcome and in truth the chap behind the bar was verging on rude. Lunchtime menu as expected is limited but surprised they didn’t even have any sausages given it is coming up to the bank holiday weekend. I had the chicken and bacon roll and fries, average at best. My wife had the Wensleydale cheese roll and fries. Expecting a delicious roll with local cheese, the cheese at best looked like cheap supermarket grated cheese and was flavourless. We weren’t alone with the disappointment, some locals were also complaining about the service or lack of it. To summarise, it is not often I give a poor rating, however this experience was poor with food over priced and average best.

Lovely traditional pub, great atmosphere, very dog friendly and some of the best pub food I've ever eaten. I had whitebait and lasagna, and they were both excellent. Staff and locals are friendly and chatty, and the food came quickly and piping hot. It's a bit of a trek up the Dales to get there - but we'll worth it - I'[ll be back!

Perfect Dales pub. Called in after walking over from hawes and was met with really nice friendly welcoming staff, a roaring log fire and well kept ales. What else can you ask for? The pub is beautiful and the food looked incredible altho we didnt eat they kindly allowed us to eat some sausage rolls we had purchased from the cafe down the road. The ales are all very good and clearly well kept. The askrigg ale was my favourite of the whole wkend. Another mention to the 2 female staff who really made us feel extremely welcome. Would have stayed longer but had a bus to catch back to hawes but shall definitely return.

A lovely Yorkshire welcome with an open fire in flagstone bar. Betty the Labrador was welcome too. Shared a ploughman’s platter for two with proper thick cut ham and delicious home made rabbit terrine and local cheese. Washed down with a cool pint of Old Peculiar and a delightful glass of Merlot. Highly recommended!

We’ve just spent Christmas staying in a cottage in Askrigg. We popped in for an afternoon drink after a snowy cold walk and sat by the log roaring v open fire. The barman (fairly local) was cheery smiley & chatty. So warm & inviting was the bar area we had to stay for another drink!! We came back for a (pre-booked) meal on Christmas Eve. We were in the formal dining area which is beautiful. Food was excellent and served either a smile. I had Cumberland sausage others had the pie/steak - all was delicious and was so full we couldn’t manage dessert. We even popped in on Boxing Day night and although a lot quieter the fire was still roasting away & still warm & cosy. Christmas tree & decorations were lovely too. I can’t wait to return ♥️

Booked for Sunday lunch but only one option which was a 'sharing platter' of meat, vegetables with yorkshire pudding. It was served on one plate piled high - overwhelming!! and not in a good way. Meat overcooked and food generally very disappointing. Apparently the usual chef was not available due to an injury. We had eaten at the Kings Arms last year and the standard has since deteriorated. We shall not be returning.

We had a great family Sunday lunch here as a family with two young kids. They offer a family sharing platter of roast meat and all the trimmings for £35. It was absolutely delicious and fast. Pudding was a good size, hearty and delicious. This is a lovely spot for a family meal. Very impressive to keep up such quality and service in the pandemic.
