We came here to celebrate a 70th birthday with afternoon tea for 8 people. The table was ready when we arrived complete with a birthday card for the birthday 'girl'. The food was very good and very fresh but what made the occasion so successful...was that every couple had their own stand of food and a teapot for two. That ruled out any confusion over whose food belonged to whom. I would recommend this type of celebratory tea. We all took some food home, because there was so much, wrapped in the foil provided.More

Me and my partner always come for lunch every week, food is always fresh and well presented however the last few weeks we’ve visited we’ve felt it’s not been the same we haven’t been seeing one of the young girls that works in the cafe...,the one with the eyelashes ,she always gives us a kind smile on arrival and is always up for a chat and a laugh , we’d just like to know if she’s okay and let her know her presence is missed😃More

I attended the cafe with my mother.  We ordered 2 poached egg on toast. We were told that we couldn't have the poached egg, but could have scrambled egg as there was no chef. We received 2 pieces of toast, with a tiny amount of...scrambled egg. On complaining and returning the 'meal' we received a second offering. Photo attached.  We were informed that this was 2 eggs scrambled at a charge of £5.95 I feel that the portion size inadequate as a meal, for the cost charged. The egg didn't even half cover the toast. We eat out regularly at local cafes, garden centres etc. Regardless of the fact we were advised this was 2 eggs you ought to be embarrassed asking that much for this meal. I am uploading a photo of the mealMore

Visited for cake and tea/coffee with family, but was very disappointing. One off the cake which I chose tasted stale and the nuts on top where soft. I took it to I thought was the restaurant manageress who asked if I wanted something else. I...did not want anything as i felt disappointed. The lady then offered a refund which I excepted. She did not come back to me although available, so as we where about to leave I went up to see here, I was told in not a very nice manner that she had tried the cake and it tasted fine and she found no problem, I really don't feel that I needed to be told in the way she told me. I caused no issue only saying that it was not nice my choice and then made to feel and treated in a unacceptable manner, I was refunded. Maybe a word on how to speak to customers is adviced, I spoke to her nice. So very disappointing visitMore

We used to be a regular customer for Sunday lunch however when chef left and no cooked food available we reluctantly move on else where. After recently reading that Clive had passed away and a new cat named Toby was resident in store we thought...it was time to revisit and reacquaint for Sunday lunch. Not a good experience, It was very cold in the restaurant and we along with most other customers elected to keep coats on to eat, people were looking at each other and nodding their heads in disbelief. First thoughts was to leave and try elsewhere however partner said to stick with it so we ordered two meals and tea for two. One dinner served on a luke warm plate with wet vegetables lying limp in bottom of bowl !!! (Unlike others served with vegetables piled high in their bowls, perhaps regular visitors receive preferential service). One fish & chips meal served on a luke warm plate, fish crispy on top soggy on bottom. Both meals cold before being able to fully consume due to low plate & room temperature. We drank the tea to keep ourselves warm before the meals arrived and at £30.00+ did not feel like purchasing any additional drinks. Waitress moving around tables in our vicinity enquiring if everything is satisfactory however skirted around our table as if aware that we were not going give a complimentary reply. We did previously receive phone calls from Clent nursery informing that a chef was now employed enabling them to resume cooked lunches however based on this experience we will remain lunching at alternative Ashwood garden centre where value for money and consistency of service is guaranteed.More

As a family we have been visiting Clent Nursery and restaurant for many years. We have always been pleased with the meals served and the politeness of the staff. Today I ordered a jacket potato with prawns. This is a favourite of mine as they...are always of a nice quality. I was however served a very small jacket. I was a little taken aback as I had expected their normal standard and a meal worth £8.95. I politely asked for a slightly larger jacket , thinking that they would have a number already cooked. Well, what then transpired would have been funny, if the ‘manager’ had not been so rude. She had no customer service skills, was negative and kept giving me problems such as ‘what should she do with the meal’, ‘what if 20 people asked for the same thing this afternoon’, ‘how they are struggling as a business.’ She also said she would have been perfectly happy with the small jacket, at which point I asked if she was implying I was greedy! I explained how I had an expectation of quality for money due to the many times we had used the restaurant, the lovely meals and how it is alway very busy, (I was actually complimenting them). However she retorted by saying ‘you should have been in here 40 mins ago when it was empty!’ She then called her boss, who repeated the same thing. I asked for a gesture of goodwill, as we have been loyal customers for approx 20 years, having spent a great deal of money in both the garden centre and restaurant, but to no avail. . The final straw was when I asked her for the meal back so I could take a picture. She demanded to know why? She then went into the kitchen and never returned! I finally asked one of the waiting staff, who was very polite and brought it out to me. I then spoke to a gentleman in the garden centre, who asked me if I had taken a picture so he could view it. It transpired it was his wife who had been so rude to me! He offered me a 50% refund. However when I returned to the restaurant I was told I could only have a credit note. What has upset me about all of this is not the monetary amount, but the way I was treated and spoken to. I have never spoken to a business customer/client in this way, and have always sort to find a solution, in order to retain the business and goodwill. Needless to say after all these years as loyal customers, we will now use Webbs or Willowbrook, where they do know how to communicate politely and respectfully with their customers.More

I had my nan visiting for the weekend and was recommended this for a nice breakfast however our experience was far from nice.Didn’t get a very warm welcome when we arrived compared to others who got greeted nicely we just got looked at and made...to feel like we didn’t belong! Was very cold in the building and had to keep coats on to eat, tea also went cold very quickly due to the temperature of the room. Went to order 2 small breakfasts one with no tomatoes swapped for mushrooms. Whilst we were waiting for our food we realised the receipt was more than we worked it out to be when I went up and just politely questioned it I was met with a very defensive response and then told I was charged for my swap which was not informed at payment. As I returned to the table the same woman delivered our food and continued to argue the price then offered a £1 refund but by that point I didn’t feel I could accept that offer. After all of this the woman then went over to another table and started telling them all about the disagreement! Overall just very disappointed and will not be returning.More

Dissapointed with the lunch. Jacket potato was one that had been previously cooked and then reheated, not cooked properly and tasted old. 3 egg omelette is very debatable, very small, miniscule filling. Would not order this again
