Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.

Been here twice before and a third time now the experience was fabulous, nice and relaxed but attentive too. Sunday roast has been and still is one of the best we have tasted and the desserts all amazing we had 4 different ones ,which was a...good idea as we couldn't choose which one was the best the only trouble we had was not ordering more.thanks again to all the staff, whenever we are near we will be backMore

I have mixed feelings, more good, none bad, just odd. For one, our food was absolutely delicious. I had roast beef Sunday lunch. I've got to say it's one of, if not the best yet. Husbands steak, ale, mushroom and stilton pie was great too...needed...more veg. At the bar there are 3 tables and then there are 2 other eating areas. We got sat in front of the bar, which is also near the entrance door. It felt a little chilly as you felt the draught every time someone entered or exited the door. Now we have been, when (because we will go back) we book next time, I'll ask for a different area. There is plenty of staff, but it was a bit Wackey Races, no-one seemed to know who had checked who in - come this way, please wait over there, are you being dealt with, and so on. A couple of waitresses weren't overly friendly (lack of personality) and a couple that were lovely. Toilets were pristine. It would also be better if the filling of the hand wash and lotion for the toilet wasn't done in the bar area.....decanting from big to small bottles with lots of paper towel everywhere. When finished it was put under the table - still in view of anyone sat there or walking through. The malbec was divine and we were happy with the price, which was just short of £49 for a 2 well sized, delicious meals, and 2 drinks. Definitely worth going back.More

We came for a casual Sunday lunch after a walk in the morning, which was delicious, it was in explained when I booked Sunday roast was on first come first served basis and we got one of the last lamb roast mid afternoon luckily. The...food was really tasty a great roast beef looked a bit pink but tasted amazing and homemade Yorkshire pudding on all roasts 😍 Didn’t have starters as wanted room for a pudding and they didn’t disappoint. I had the Bakewell and it tasted delicious 🤤. Service was great and the waitresses were very friendly and accommodating considering the place was full. Definitely book to avoid disappointment, can’t wait to go back.More

Would recommend for a delicious Sunday roast at a reasonable price. Several dishes can be adapted to be gluten free. The duck was delicious! Friendly staff and good service.

Really poor quality food. Don’t eat here unless you love dogs around the tables! Service, however, was good Friendly and helpful staff

Lovely restaurant off the beaten path in Underbarrow. Had a lovely family dinner for my birthday. Food was generally well executed although the batter on my father’s fish was slightly soggy.

Having hiked from Bowness to the Black Labrador, we were ready for a rest and refreshments, so were extremely disappointed by the 'no muddy boots' sign on the front door. We then did an about turn and what felt like the walk of shame passed...their patrons sitting by the window. Just awful and such a pity as it looked like a lovely place. Needless to say, we pushed on to Kendal and enjoyed great food, drink and service in a different establishment.More
