Should be far higher up the trip advisor ranks than 8th it currently is and we only stumbled across this place after a glowing recommendation from Roger our hotel owner! Maybe it's because it's at the far end of Santa Teresa but believe us it's well worth the 15 min bumpy ride out here. Friendly, attentive and knowledgable staff were... More

One of the best italian food I had.. And leaving in Switzerland I was surprised that I have to find a gem like this in Costa Rica! The Chef is Italian and prepares amazing home made pasta. Do not miss the Bull balls ravioli with creamy prosciutto sauce et the tuna carpaccio! We also had a passion fruit margarita which... More

i have visited Al Chile Viola twice, once alone in July 2014, and most recently with my husband in February. On both visits the food, the service, and the atmosphere were quite memorable. I love the eclectic decor, with cushioned benches and beaded lamps. It makes for a cozy setting. The food is incredible...pasta perfectly Al dente, and sauces to... More

I'm told the chef/owner here is Italian an the food certainly shows it. Handmade pasta here is great. I had the carbonara and although it isn't the best I've ever had, it was still very authentic and tasted fantastic. My wife had tagliatelle with tomatoe and basil and she loved it (and she is half Italian so she knows a... More

Cozy little place with live music, it filled up pretty fast. Service was great, very attentive. The octopus was amazing! Highly recommend starting off with that if available.

The lasagna was so freaking good - and that's coming from my Italian girlfriend! The "bull balls" ravioli was a true novelty, but a bit salty for my taste. An acoustic guitarist provided the perfect ambiance to complement the rustic elegance of the candlelit outdoor seating.

Just a fantastic meal all around. The staff was friendly and helpful, the wine they recommended was spot on, the homemade pasta was a huge hit with the kids and our tuna and pork ribs were top notch. I also LOVED the portobello mushroom tartare...such an interesting twist on a tartare. easily a 5 star meal!

We had the pleasure of eating here on our last visit to Mal Pais and were eager to go back again. The drinks were delicious and the two guitar players set a wonderful mood for the evening. The food (shrimp pasta for myself and a rib special for my husband) were cooked to perfection and were presented beautifully. Our sever... More

We had a very nice dinner here. It was nice to go to an Italian restaurant that offered gluten free pasta as well as many gluten free appetizers and main courses. The ceviche and tuna tartare were fresh and flavorful. My main dish of grilled octopus and roasted pumpkin was both different and delicious. We had a reasonably priced Malbec... More

We stayed right across the street in Mariposa Vacation Homes (also highly recommended!) and Al Chile Viola was recommended to us by our local concierge. Hands down my favorite part of this restaurant was the service. If you get there early enough (around 6) you essentially have the place to yourself. It is a quaint little local spot, with the...
