Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

The place was wonderful from the moment we walked in. Food was wonderful. The ambiance and service of this small restaurant made our visits that much more enjoyable.

If you like "international food" or "pizza & pasta" this restaurant isn't for you. However, if you love authentic family cooking, local wines and great service with a smile then don't go anywhere else. We visited both nights of our visit to Montalcino. It's a...small, family run restaurant on the main street through town. Antonio runs the front of house with enthusiasm, perfect English and no little skill. I think that his wife does most (all ?) of the cooking and produces amazingly tasty local dishes combined with "Michelin level" presentation. All of the courses were delicious but the Tiramisu deserves a special mention. I always order Tiramisu at restaurants in Italy since I believe it's a good guide to the genuine culinary skills of the chef. The Tiramisu at Re di Macchia is the best I've ever tasted ! It's a special place if you appreciate local culture & great food at a very reasonable price - make sure you book ahead to avoid disappointment.More

I couldn’t recommend this place more. Traditional and delicious food at a reasonable price. Great choice of local wines. The waiter was very welcoming and spoke great English. A lovely old building.

We are an Italian family of four originally from Val d'Orcia (this area). Having bought a small property nearby, we decided to visit all the restaurants in Montalcino (and a few nearby) to choose our favorites. One of us has dietary restrictions, basically eating only...fish or vegetables. Therefore we did not go to places that did not have at least one suitable option. Our ratings take this fact into account. Location 9,0 Service 9,3 Food 9,1 Quality/Price 9,0More

We were two persons and I had the prix fix nenu La Proposa de Robero with classic Antipssto. pasta( changes daily, today lasagna) and Filetto di manzo. It includes dessert, usually tiramisu. I also tssted some slices of bistecca florentina, deliciously cooked medium rare. The...place is very small, quaint, Antonio a great host. Do call and make reservations it fills up quickly for lunch and dinner.More

We spent a month in Florence and Montalcino was a beautiful two day excursion. While the Brunello properties we visited were outstanding, re di Macchia was the highlight of our visit. The service was outstanding and the menu was so good and varied it was...hard to choose each course. Surely it was everything Tuscany can offer. Reluctantly we had to choose and every choice we made was perfectly prepared and delicious. Don’t miss this gem. We wish our trip had been longer offering another opportunity to dine here….next time!!!More

Found this just like you! Reviews on Trip Advisor. I tried calling and emailing- nothing. When we arrived in Montalcino at 4:00 pm. Nonni Anna from our hotel recommended we eat here. We walked down, knocked on the door, Antonio was going over the evening...menu with the Sou Chef and put us on the list for 7 pm. Wow!! one of the best meals in a "family feel" setting. Antonio was so kind to us, fantastic food, took great caution with our Celiac ridden son. My husband got the tasting menu- incredible mushroom lasagna. My son and I shared the steak- huge and so great!! plenty to share. We took the rest back to Roma for steak and eggs before heading to the airport later in the week. Antonio makes handling a room of 20 guests look easy. Wonder how his wife in the kitchen feels:) If you are in the area. This is a must.More

This was the best meal we had our entire trip! We loved the cute little restaurant. Staff were amazing. We were recommended a bottle of red wine which was absolutely delicious. We then both had a pasta dish (ravioli and lasagne) Followed by wild boar...stew and braised beef We both ended up sharing everything because we just simply wanted to eat all of it! Finished off with tiramisu (the best I’ve ever had in my life) and cheesecake. We said we would go back every night if we could! Genuinely fantastic! I added a picture of our empty plates that I wanted to lick!More

This was perhaps our favorite meal in Italy so far. The service was friendly and personal, and the food was fabulous. Most of us had Roberta’s recommended three-course meal, and it delivered. The real star was the mushroom lasagna. We also loved the tiramisu, traditional...charcuterie tray, tiramisu, and crème brûlée. It was a wonderful evening, and we would highly recommend. Call in advance for reservations. There was plenty of space when we arrived, but they were turning people away at the door because all the tables were booked. Thank you for such a wonderful evening!More

This restaurant was a real gem! We had lunch here on a drizzly day in early May. The service was warm, friendly and prompt. Our food was excellent! And the ‘Brunello of the day’ was superb. So much so that we came home with several...bottles of it. I highly recommend Re di Macchia. My guess is that a reservation is advisable in busier times.More
