On our last night in Imerovigli, my vegan wife and I wandered over from our hotel to Avocado, as the menu looked to have some nice plant-based options for her. There were some tables available on this windy weekday night in October; summertime is likely...much more hectic. If so, book a table in advance, and dress nice when you arrive: Avocado is worth it.
We shared the Santorini style tomato fritters and the grilled mushrooms – both delicious – then my wife had the vegetable pasta and I had a tuna steak, which they warned would be served rare, but it was more thoroughly cooked than that.
Everything was great and we left stuffed – but not before we had a fascinating conversation with Leonidos, Avocado's owner, a former Greek Air Force pilot with lots of stories! The joy of going out to eat in Greece is getting a chance to chat with friendly staff. You don't often get to do this in Santorini, since it's so bustling with tourists, but go to Avocado a little later in the evening, when things are mellow. You won't feel like a tourist, but like a guest.More
