Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

The view and the setting in the cave are amazing. Staff were very good but the kitchen let everyone down. Food was very average and over priced. Waited for a special trip to go here and unfortunately left very disappointed.

Not sure what justifies the price. The view is unusual but there are so many tables that it feels very impersonal. The smell is overwhelming and not a good fit for dining. Not at all the exclusive experience you might expect for this kind of...price (250€/person). Food is average at best and the service by jaded waiters, is so slow, particularly since we couldn’t wait to get it over with.More

Very unpleasant and bland food. Some pasty pasta, and some bland fish, staff not friendly or helpful. We have been traveling all around Italy for the last couple of weeks, this is the worse experience so far. 500 euros for 3 basic dishes

Had an awful experience. Spent €200+ per person. The food was average at best, service was horrendous. We had the 5 course meal but the wait was 45 minutes in between courses. Ended up staying for more than 3 hours and had to ask them...several times to bring out the food.More

Attended for our 30 wedding anniversary as it was on our bucket list. $1000 Australian dollars later, that hurt butttt I love with memories. Set menu for your budget (laughing) minimum spend 199€ per person. I had scallops for starters was divine then ravioli for...entree super rich and overpowering then fish for main was Devine but the size of slice cheese. Then tiramisu amazing. Views were spectacular. Staff were attentive but not friendly and no smiles. There was one waiter in a wool coat who took the order, he acted like he owned the place and seemed to look down on everyone. The young waiters were nice but the female waitress needed some more personality. The hostess was very nice she was the best staff member. It’s a attraction and over exaggeration thanks to social media. Unless you have money to throw away or like me a milestone to celebrate I’m sure the little restaurant on the cliff up the road to this restaurant that has starters for 10£ and mains for 30€ taste just as good and same views. Pricing seriously is over exaggerated it’s no Michelin.More

This place is a trap that lures people in with the view. There is a reason you have to pre-pay so much. Even the staff seemed to know this was a disaster, once they dropped off each plate or the wine, you never saw them...again. I can imagine they've suffered many angry guests who realize the only reason to be there is the view. This is heartbreaking in a country where the food can be very well done, even simply. Please avoid, it needs new owners!More

Grotta Palazzese was the hero restaurant of our trip. We had three couples and booked a table around 3 months in advance. When we got to the restaurant they were accepting walks in but they were the tables towards the back of the cave. We...booked a table at 6pm so we could see the full sunset and soak in the ambiance. When we got to the restaurant, seats weren’t exactly allocated so I asked the staff if we could sit at the top with the water view, they swapped our table over (if you don’t ask you don’t get right)… arguably we had the best table at the restaurant. I had watched Tik Tok reviews prior to coming to the restaurant and thank god we did as men had to wear pants and closed in shoes (in 40 degree heat). There was reviews about the food being very expensive and not worth the money, I noticed that people saying this were ordering the gold menu. We decided to go with the first, cheapest option and was surprised with the amount of food we received, everything was really yummy. The restaurant catered for dairy and gluten free as well so we even got extra allocations. We shared a few bottles of rosè and red, it went really well with the food. Later in the evening a saxophone player came around and played happy birthday for me which was a really lovely touch. We could have stayed there all night watching the sunset, you can’t get a better view and ambiance - overall recommendation is 1. book and advance and ask where to be seated 2. Book around 6pm so you see the full sunset over your seating timeframe 3. Order the cheapest menu option and you won’t be disappointed.More

Given the bad reviews I was nervous as I was really excited to visit this famous restaurant. We knew the cost and were prepared to pay this for the experience. The whole evening was amazing. Seated in a perfect table, the food was amazing. The...fillet of beef so tender and cooked to perfection. The ambience was like nothing I had experienced before. The staff were pleasant, professional and attentive. A truly magical night, worth every penny.More

There are plenty of restaurants with a sea view. There are also many beaches with caves that overlook the sea. It's fine; the view is alright. We should have ordered à la carte. The food is nice, but the service is appalling. The live music...features a guy with a saxophone playing over all the top hits of the '80s, which I found grating. The service is dreadful. It's not a five-star atmosphere, yet they are charging five-star prices. If you're comfortable paying €500 for an okay meal and a decent photo of the sea for your Instagram, go for it. If you're expecting a memorable experience, your €500 would be far better spent elsewhere.More

-10 would be the correct rating for this place. I was so DISRESPECTED! I was there at my booking time, last Sunday, and I had no choice but to change my mind after seeing the absolute over priced menu (MINIMUM 200€ FOR A F%#¥|&@ MEAL!!!!!!)....I mean, I’m only a regular worker, I couldn’t afford it and so I tried speaking with the managers and gave them the option to either bring me a bottle of wine, or my 75€ which was charged in advance in case of non-show, back. They never brought me the wine and guess what? STILL CHARGED 75€ ME FOR NOT-SHOWING UP. Seriously, whatttt??? Definitely memorable.More

Upon reading all the negative reviews prior to going here I was prepared for a mediocre meal so I decided Id be happy with a good wine and just enjoy the ambience. We actually stayed at the hotel which we loved however only one sticking...point with that there was no tea or coffee making in the room in which Ive never encountered that in any of our hotels before. Back to restaurant, we were seated on 2nd level which was lovely, overlooking the restaurant, it was a blowy night however I was praying it would subside as to enjoy our evening and it DID. We decided to order the gold seeings we"d only be eating here once in our lifetime and ordered our favourite wine Frescobaldi Luce. We also began with a few glasses of their Louis Rodener champagne to accompany our first course which was a selection of caviars with an assortment of blinis and toppings, cured salmon ect and it was divine. It was followed by lobster then fish and dessert. By the end we were so full that we could hardly fit any more in. Staff were attentive and efficient. I understand how people are saying the waitstaff are rude and they may come across as that however they're just there to do their jobs efficiently as there is no time to stand and chat.We found them pleasant enough and were happy to assist in any way they could. So to finish we thoroughly enjoyed it all and my advice is to go fully aware of the prices and remember its all about the ambience as there are not many places you will get to eat in like this. Yes it was expensive but have paid the same at other places which had zero ambience compared to this. Will always remember the Grotta ❤️More

Better than expected though food still not worth the cost. We were fully aware of the cost per person but decided to go anyways. The setting is spectacular. I ordered the fish option … appetizer too cheesy; small piece of branzino - no taste; my...dessert - tiramisu - was very good. My husband ordered the lamb, which was tasty. Staff was not friendly, though efficient. It would seem that this restaurant is not a happy place for employees to work. I ask why? And with numerous negative ratings, why are the owners not implementing changes in quality and taste of food; as well as in their employees’ attitudes? I do have a complement for the sommelier who encouraged us to purchase a bottle of wine as it would be more economical than ordering by the glass. The wine suggested was very good.More

For the price you’ll be paying, I’d choose the 7pm sitting so I could linger on and make a nice night out of it.
