What a beautiful spot to come have a leisurely meal. It’s a bit out of the way but well worth it- it’s like eating on an elegant farm and the food and wines are very interesting. It is very kid friendly and the service is...excellent. Also a winery, you can come taste some wine or olive oil. What a lovely experience!!More
Second time in this restaurant, and it never disappoints. In terms of value for money, you cannot get much better than Herdade do Esporão.
My family is half Portuguese half American. We’ve been going to Esporao for the last 15 years. Something the whole family always looks forward to. This year we had to go through a long and complicated email reservation process, which I understand as a need...for when you become a sought out quality restaurant. We were running late and got lost in the property so we arrived 19 min late. The tolerance time was 15 min so we passed it by 4 min and were refused a table. There was no attempt at trying to have as stay and enjoy the other restaurant, for example. They simply turned us away. Disappointing and Unacceptable. I can only assume they grew so fast that they forgot how to treat their costumers.More
Dear Rita, Thank you very much for your comment. Our focus is on providing the best possible experience to our guests, and we are very sorry that your experience was not up to your expectations. The late arrival policy exists to ensure that all customers...More
The wine tour was fascinating but the lunch, Oh my word!! I've eaten at Michelin starred restaurants before but this was beyond anything I've eaten. The attention to detail, accommodating my dietary allergies, nothing was too much trouble. We met the chef, what a talent!!
This is well worth a visit for a superlative food and wine experience. Chef Carlos Teixeira cut his teeth at Nolla in Finland, Blue Hill New York and Clove Hill in London. His experience and creativity show in the culinary creations he presents. The wine...pairings are fabulous too. The ambiance is pure bliss with views across rolling fields and water.More
A score of zero isn’t possible, so it had to be a one, alas. Our five course meal today reminded me very much of a restaurant version of the story in which the emperor has no clothes. In the course of the tedious three hour...meal, there were a few interesting notes of taste, but nothing to exceed the routine quality of a meal at home. The unifying thread of the experience was an odd taste, in nearly every dish, which my companion suggested might have its origin in some particular culture of mold or bacteria from the refrigerator. The wines were nothing particular, so the minuscule aliquots poured were perhaps a mercy, and when I asked for a little more wine, I received the dregs of the last 15 mL or so from a nearly empty bottle. That was a new experience. The cheque amounted to €202, which would have been a fair price only if I had been able to torture my worst enemy by bringing them to share that lunch. Altogether a disappointment, which left me wondering what the meaning of that Michelin star could be.More
Imagine a multi course lunch in an idyllic setting with Michelin star level food…. An amazing experience and one I would absolutely recommend. The food was outstanding , the wait staff knowledgeable and attentive, and the wine pairings perfect. Go
Great view from the restaurant and tranquil atmosphere. We went for the 7 moments lunch which was outstanding. The wine pairing was superb! Great overall experience.
Unprofessional reservation system. Have sent emails several times to make reservation 2/3 weeks in advance and never get a reply. I always end up calling to chase for an answer which is ‘we cannot accomodate’.More
Dear Mr. Acosta1978 Thank you very much for your comment and feedback. We regret that the Herdade do Esporão restaurant was not available to accept your reservation. The number of booking requests has been increasing and we advise you to book in advance so that...More
We really enjoy Esporao wine so we thought it would make sense to try their Michelin star restaurant! We actually started in the tasting room for a few glasses of wine, then had a late lunch reservation at the restaurant. We decided to choose our...own adventure and asked the waiter to pair wines with each course. The first course was beautiful -- it was layered with colorful edible flowers and herbs. We ordered the green beans and the cauliflower next. The green beans were hands down the best thing I ate. The cauliflower was good but it was a bit too salty. For the mains we had perch and a grilled pork. Both were delicious and very interesting sauces and flavors. Heavy use of coriander. The dessert was strawberry and it was good but also a bit too sweet for me personally. With that said, we really enjoyed the lunch, the wine, and the service. I would recommend making a reservation at the restaurant if you plan to visit the vineyard. As an aside, we went back to the tasting room for an olive oil tasting and it was fantastic. We left with three bottles of olive oil.............. :)More
The very best Michelin star restaurant experience ever!!! Great service, spectacular and innovative food, beautifully paired wines . An experience to remember forever.
We came here because we love Esporão wines and really wanted to do the guided tour of the winery and cellars, and found out that they had recently got the Michelin star with their restaurant. I won’t dwell on how much it is worth visiting...the winery as the tour is incredibly well done and organized, so please book yours! The restaurant is facing the Herdade do Esporão land and it is just beautiful. The staff is professional yet friendly and they make you feel very comfortable even if you are in a starred restaurant, making your journey even more enjoyable. Let you be guided by the chef’s menu which will make you discover Portuguese cuisine taste with an innovative twist. We loved our time there and really appreciated the chef coming to our table asking for our thoughts. Look forward to coming back!More
Magnificent food experience! We had the 3 dishes and wine experience in which the chef will surprise us with appetizers, fish and meat dishes, and desert. All dishes are accompanied by a selection of wines from Esporão that combined divinely with the dishes served. Not...cheap, but definitely worth the money.More
We firstly did the wine tour which lasts about 1.5 hours, then had lunch. We chose the 7 moments menu. You are asked for any allergies, but do not have a specific menu. There was also a 5 moments and I believe 3 moments. You...have the option for wine pairing too. My husband does not drink so was not charged for that aspect. Wine pairings were 20 euros, which included a 10 year old port too, coffee and water. 7 moments (which was actually 10 dishes) was 65 euros. The food will be different with each chef. Things I would turn my nose up I ate. All plates fully consumed. The staff were knowledgeable and attentive. We were a table of 3 couples and a friend. The meal was leisurely in that we fished at 5pm or just before, not because it was slow service, but you should take time to savour. I do wish I had been able to write down the different courses as it is too difficult to recall. Naturally less of you and less dishes it will take considerably less time. We were staying in Monsaraz which was about a 20 minute taxi drive at 25 euros. Could have parked but that means the driver unable to drink. You can purchase the wine in the shop. Don't have a bad word to say about the experience, just wished it was closer to us as we live in the Algarve. Food is akin to any good Michelin star restaurant.More
