Oh my word. How does this place stay afloat? Apathetic staff, overpriced menu and appalling food. Tempura prawns with the shell on? Apparently it’s an Italian delicacy. I’ve spent many a holiday in Italy and am yet to see this on a menu. Whoever told...the chef/management that this is a thing must be laughing their socks off (I’m guessing this was added to the menu on or shortly after April 1st). It was also extremely unpleasant to see the chefs outside during their break, smoking! Im guessing there is little chance they wash their hands after having a good old puff. I don’t understand the positive reviews. Much better places in the harbour to eat. On a positive note, the restaurant occupies an enviable location in the harbour. What a waste. Avoid!More

Looks very nice from the outside but don't be deceived. Food & Service terrible, not to metion overpriced. Staff really don't care. The food was below average. Very unpleasant to be eating your dinner while at the same time watching the chef outside smoking.

I have never felt compelled to review a restaurant to date but people should read the reviews for this restaurant definitely before visiting! We liked the look of Amelie and it has a fantastic location so we booked for our last night. We didn’t look...at the reviews unfortunately or they wouldn’t have had our business. We were welcomed and enjoyed our nibbles of hummus and flatbreads and - olives obviously not a difficult starter to make! However 2 of our 3 mains were terrible. I wish i had read the previous reviews of the Frito Misto. Like others I found the batter heavy and greasy. The king prawns were “shell on” before being cooked in batter which seemed bizarre., along with the battered lemon which was beyond comprehension- who batters lemon?? The waitress told me the prawns were the “Italian way” and they were thinking of changing it. Why then have they been told numerous times about this in previous feedback and still continue to serve it - maybe someone from the restaurant could answer this???? Maybe my ignorance but shell on battered prawns is impractical to eat ! The rest of the tempura was just not tasty. The fish was mushy and the squid rubbery, not what i expected from a restaurant on the harbour. My wife’s seafood pizza was also extremely greasy and the seafood didn’t seem that fresh. On another note our daughters pizza - chilli beef was acceptable for taste but burnt around the edge. The service seemed to disappear later on in the meal. We could see 3 of the staff stood outside looking at the harbour! And the waitress had more interest in her mobile phone than the feedback on the shocking food! We still tipped as we really didn’t want to argue and spoil our holiday. This meal spoilt our last evening though! Won’t be going again ever!More

Food was tasteless. Visited with my in-laws and was embarrassed to have taken them here. Only returned after a bad experience previously as had heard it had improved. It hasn’t!! Previously very salty. Now totally tasteless. Only good part was the wine which was nice....Music too loud. Draughty. Service acceptable but slow. Two of us had arancini mushrooms - bland and could have been anything if blindfolded. Then had tempura - could taste fennel but nothing else. No finger bowl even though the prawns were whole (??). And why would you want a tempura lemon? My husband was sceptical about any improvement and had the burger thinking that couldn’t be bad - he was disappointed. Very expensive for very below average tasteless food. For £5 more per person we had an exceptional meal at The Square. And for similar you can get an amazing meal at Kota Kai. Will not be returning!!More

Poor mackerel pate as previous review - certainly not my perception of that dish. On the mains, fish (good) atop 4 spuds of diff sizes ranging across done/ok/hard/nigh on raw, inappropriate vine toms with a drizzle of something equally inappropriate. All rather inconsistent (I think...I'm being charitable) - its a long way from what it thinks it is.More

A perfect spot for some delicious food, with the added bonus of a wonderful view of the twinkling lights in the harbour when the sun went down. A short break in Porthleven with my bestie and we enjoyed it so much the first night, we...booked for the next three nights as well! In particular, the bouillabaisse was absolutely first class, with perfectly cooked fish and prawns. Excellent risotto, fabulous mussels, scrumptious lemon posset with home made shortbread and refreshing sorbets. Something for every taste and the pizzas looked amazing too! Without exception, all the staff were friendly and service was unobtrusive but attentive. Jack was clearly an excellent manager and nothing was too much trouble. A thoroughly enjoyable, relaxing experience. Thank you Amelie - we loved it!More

Poor service. We waited a long while with no explanation or apology. The waiter was self opinionated and the manager had a careless almost bullying approach. The food was tasteless. How wrong can you get two salads? I have felt unwell since eating and I...imagine from my symptoms that the gluten free request wasn’t conveyed to the kitchen. We were looking forward to our visit as the menu looked amazing. But, the food we were served bore no resemblance. The mackerel ‘pate’ was chopped up mackerel, fridge cold and over salty. The tempura consisted of two pieces of white fish, two king prawns...with the skin left on (inedible), a piece of broccoli and a battered slice of lemon! The chips were nice though. Maybe take this fish off the menu as it doesn’t seem very popular reading previous reviews. The catch of the day local fish was a salmon fillet, very uninspiring, unseasoned oily new potatoes and a bunch of tomatoes which did not complement the dish at all. Where were the greens? The waitress was lovely and gave us a discount off the bill. Very disappointed and underwhelmed. Such a shame as the restaurant is in an amazing location.More

Friendly service but the food was disappointing in the extreme - starters came out within 3 minutes of ordering - mackerel pate tasteless (possibly too cold if just out of the fridge)as was the salt and pepper squid - completely bland and the aioli dip...with the squid had a skin on it, as if left out too long. Mains - Boullabaisse tasted odd, accompanying bread seemed stale, flavoured butter not pleasant. Frito Misto was just awful - tempura coating heavy and claggy. They had even tried to coat samphire and the lemon garnish ! Broccoli was charred. Prawns large but coated in tempura in their shells so I had to peel it all off to eat - seemed wrong. I was offered an alternative dish of my choice, which I did refuse - had lost my appetite and felt quite queasy. I would not recommend at allMore
