We just arrived in Teignmouth and had a few hours on the beach, and wanted to grab some fish and chips and sit on the beach front.
Was surprisingly surprised to find they have turned the eating area into a Covid safe place to eat.
So decided to eat in, the staff were friendly and attentive.
I had a small fish and chips and the portion was plentiful and could tell it was cooked fresh.
My little girl who is 7 was pleased with her kids meal, and all left feeling full and glad we stopped by.

We were tempted by the aroma and were glad we dropped in. Despite Covid precautions in place they were able to accommodate our family party of five. The waitress was extremely pleasant and helpful in explaining the different varieties of fish on the menu. We were also pleasantly surprised by a good selection of vegetarian choices for my Mother in Law considering it's essentially a fish and chip shop/restaurant. They also are licenced for alcoholic drinks for diners which was a bonus. The food was quick in coming , of great quality and good portion size. We would definitely visit again and more than happy to recommend. Perfect for seaside fish and chips.

I love fish and chips. While I'll enjoy them anywhere in almost any form, occasionally I am really impressed by a chip shop, and Finn McCool impressed me. I would single out, in particular, the wide range of choices on the menu, both fish and non-fish: it was nice to be given a wide range of fish (including cod, haddock, plaice and hake), while I counted at least three different vegetarian burgers which, together with Quorn sausages and dippers, gave lots of choice for vegetarians.
The batter was fresh and crisp, and the chips were not too oily (without being overdone).
Takeaway service was swift and the use of order numbers meant collection was straightforward. It's easy to see why there was quite a queue to order!

The system needs serious rethinking as people don't know who is trying to order food or waiting for there order. After waiting 10 mins for my order I was very disappointed the chips were under cooked and hard and my calamari was overcooked and so tough I couldn't chew it. Overall very disappointed and wont be coming here again will recommend friends to go elsewhere

Bright and welcoming however the member of staff that told us that there was not anything left was far from that!! The young man that served us was abrupt and negative. If we had not been very hungry and promised our son 'chippy supper' we would have gone somewhere else. We had 2 cold, dried up portions off chips £4.30 and a curry sauce that a co worker provided after she overheard him say there was none left. Please provide some customer service training for this ignorant young man before he offends more customers and knock your lights/signage off if you are sold out.

Firstly no complaints with the food it was piping hot and very tasty. I use it fairly regularly. Just the poor service and staff attitude.
Asked for the lunchtime special with includes tea or coffee which I don't drink either. So asked to swop for mushy peas as the price value was roughly the same. The young waitress asked but the older lady with glasses said I'd have to pay extra which I agreed. So I asked the young waitress could I have a cold drink instead of the tea or coffee she said yes. I asked for sprite and received orange tango which I'm not keen on. But as it was already opened decide to keep it. My meal was £8.00 for the small cod chips and bread and butter incuding the tea or coffee. I enjoyed my meal and when I paid it was £11.90 which I questioned as mushy peas or NOT that expensive only to be told abruptly that I'd had a cold drink. I told her I thought it was instead of the tea or coffee she said NO. Her customer service skills leave a lot to be desired. So moral of the story don't have the special if you don't drink tea or coffee. I think it disgusting to have been charged £11.90 for a SMALL Cod n chips. A positive experience turned into a negative one by the older lady and her bad attitude. Will defo think twice before returning.

Re-heated chips - so disappointing. We have been patronising this fish & chip shop rather than our regular recently as they have been open during lockdown. Midweek it has been great but tonight a Friday, it was clear the chips had been re-heated as they were rubbery and dry. Also lost heat quickly so obvious they had just been cooked earlier and then flash fried at the last minute. Not good enough. Won’t be returning.

Just arrived in Teignmouth for a few days stay and queued outside for meals for the family. Two fish and chips and one chicken nuggets and chips, the chips were absolutely awful. As dry as if they’ve been cooked all day and rewarmed. We have eaten here on several occasions in the past but after three of us being unable to eat any of the chips we won’t be back.
The two score is for the fish alone.

We had a nice warm welcome to the restaurant, they were happy to accommodate 2 tables for us.
Portion sizes were huge, fish was fresh, light and super tasty. Chips were some of the best I’ve ever had.
Service was fast and efficient.
We loved it
We’ll be returning later this week for sure :)

Paid nearly £7 for 2 x jumbo battered sausage and large chips. Batter had no seasoning and sausage was tactless, but the large chips was genuinely shocking - would have been disappointed with the portion if I'd ordered small. Genuinly disgusted.

This is the second time I’ve tried this place. Poor quality in both fish and chips. Greasy heavy chewy batter, overcooked fish and thin offcutty chips. Passing trade may be taken in by the location and clean ambience but not the locals, the food is poor.

We got a takeaway from here and for the price paid it was not up to scratch. Finn McCools is the most expensive fish & chip shop in Teignmouth, so you would expect it to be of a high standard. We ordered 2 standard cod & 1 large chips. I would not call the portion of chips large & they weren't that good anyway. However the worst thing was how the cod was packaged. The box that the lad who served us used was not long enough to fit the cod in, so he just broke the ends off both portions so they would fit in the box! I was shocked and I did make a comment, but it seemed to go over his head. By the time we got home the cod was nearly cold. Finn McCools may not be the worst chip shop in town, but they need to seriously up their game!

We popped into the restaurant side for lunch. Excellent service and amazing food. My fish was cooked perfectly and the batter was lovely and crisp. My husband and children had battered sausages, also nicely cooked with crispy batter. Chips were fab, not greasy at all! Pricing was really good value for money, I would class as inexpensive. Would recommend!

We were desperate for fish and chips and the first place we found just looked odd - it advertised fish and chips but inside there was no mention of that on the menu. So, we went here and couldn't have been more pleased.
Nicely decorated and set out we ate in. The menu is a bit more interesting than many places with hake on the menu. Sadly, none of our choices were available, they couldn't get the fish apparently, so we all had to have cod and chips. But it was wonderful. lovely dry chips and a gorgeous light batter that was also not greasy. We asked if the batter had any special ingredients (it tasted like a tempura batter) and the cook said "love"!
A meal for three with a drink each came to about £50 including a good tip (the service was great). One other thing that pleased us was they had some excellent cider - just right to cut through the fat.
Would I come here again? Like a shot

I have recently moved to the area and this fish bar was recommended to me. I’ve had take out but ate in last night with family. Takeout are served in neat little boxes and the portion size is perfect. Eating in was great. The food is freshly cooked, portion sizes are really good, the table next to us had large and wow! There is no way I could eat a large portion of fish! It’s enormous lol. Glad I stuck to regular. Facilities were really good, clean and well spaced out. I cannot fault this place and would highly recommend, just be prepared to wait a while for takeout at busy times, but worth every minute.
