Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Although the staff were friendly, the coffee was just average and my vegetarian lunch was expensive for such a small portion.

Our second visit to this lovely cafe, and the service from all the staff was wonderful and friendly. The owner accommodated our disabled daughter with an off the menu request. It was heartwarming that he remembered us from our last visit 7 months ago. The...baked Camembert was delicious. We can’t wait to return.More

Our usual go to cafe in Helmsley. Went today and walked to the outside seating area to be shouted at by a woman a distance away , who i guess was the owner , that we shouldn't just walk in and we had to wait...to be seated. Even the table next door commented on her abrupt & rude manner. £13.20 for 2 scones & a pot of tea for 2 so we won't be returningMore

We visited for coffee and cake with our 2 year old. We were greeted and taken to a table by very friendly staff. Drinks were great as was the Biscoff muffin. My 2 year old stole my muffin, which staff found amusing, as did we....With this, the staff came round the corner and gave me another one on the house. Staff were great in engaging with our son who couldn’t stop looking at them and smiling. Everything about our visit was brilliant and we’ll always call in every time we’re in Helmsley. It wasn’t our first visit and it won’t be our last! Massive thank you to the staff!More

Lovely little spot with lots of gluten free options. The mushroom truffle dish was to die for. Would definitely return here! Also dog friendly

Dropped in as a group for coffee, tea and cakes. All good food, served quickly with a smile. We sat in the large outside seating area which should be brilliant, as it’s spacious with good tables & chairs. Castle gate is a quiet spot so...no passing traffic. Sadly some customers sitting outside insisted, despite the no smoking notices, in ‘enjoying’ their filthy habit which wrecked our enjoyment. Never again outside this place.More

Still rubbish service! Reviewed this before last August and the service is still dreadful. We must be doing something wrong based on other reviews here. Sat at an outside table, nobody came to drop off menus or ask if we needed any help. Several staff...walked past us, still ignored as no eye contact made. Gave up after 10 minutes of waiting. I’m always prepared to give a place a second chance but not again for this cafe. Whoever the owners are you need to seriously address your customer service.More

The warmth and service of an interested staff made it so much easier to enjoy our trip to North yorks. The chef was so helpful with his recommendations. We chose the Thai & noodles soup, perfect. We could have stayed all day as the sweet...selection was to die for. Will certainly recommend this gorjus place to my relatives of north yorksMore
