Excellent tasting menu with wine pairings. We opted for the 4 course, but then tried 3 extra dishes between us. We’ve eaten here several times before and the food & service is consistently excellent. So many good dishes to call out, but the lamb is...off the scale Already booked our next visit.More

We had planned to try the 4 course pescatarian tasting menu but enjoyed the starter so much that we extended our dinner to all 8 courses with wine pairing  - what an utterly delicious treat!  The contemporary yet cosy ambience, the attentive service, the imaginative...and skilful cooking with locally sourced produce and the perfect drinks pairing suggested by the exceptionally knowledgeable sommelier provided a memorable, thoroughly enjoyable experience. We will definitely be back!More

Absolutely stunning - excellent 8 course tasting menu, very innovative. Great wine pairings and lovely service. A real treat. Very very very good value for money - we would recommend the wine pairings especially. Lovely room and great atmosphere.

Such a personal touch from entering the restaurant - until the moment we left. Food was cooked and presented to perfection with exquisite flavours. 3 hours of eating with food being served at a most relaxing pace by knowledgeable staff who obviously wanted us to...enjoy the experience.More

As Luca and I were celebrating our 22th wedding anniversary, today we visited #pignut in Hemsley. The small restaurant had been signalled by the Good Food Guide as one 'to watch': innovative, mindful in locally resourcing, most importantly visionary. The dessert for instance was an...artful combination of dark chocolate, coffee, and... mushroom. The whole meal was an exceptional and memorable sensory discover. A true gem situated at the heart of a stunning village. We feel lucky to have such a great example of modern cuisine just around the corner.More

A second visit to Pignut with friends and once again the food and service were first class. The four of us opted for the eight course tasting menu, which was brilliant. The Head Chef and part owner, Tom, delivered fantastic food throughout each and every...course. Three of our party of four chose the wine flight, which was excellent. The wine pairings were explained in detail by Laurissa, a very knowledgeable sommelier and part owner. Our friends had dined at Le Manoir aux Quat'Saisons in Oxfordshire the previous week and this, they said, was equally if not a better dining experience. A superb restaurant in Helmsley and definitely worth a visit.More

I can't speak too highly of the Pignut. We had the tasting menu which was excellent and very good value compared to similar restaurants. A lot of effort had gone into each course, service was friendly and efficient. We had a tasting menu at a...Michelin-starred restaurant a few weeks later and we both thought the food at the Pignut was much better. I wish it was nearer, but we will definitely be returning.More

On a trip to Yorkshire we booked into Pignut for their Tasting Menu - I have been fortunate to eat in some excellent venues around the UK but PIGNUT will remain long in the memory as outstanding. I can honestly say that every mouthful -...every single mouthful - was delicious. A mixture of classical techniques, contemporary approaches, foraging, local produce and fantastic service make this place stand head and shoulders above many other restaurants, from gastro pubs to fine dining. Wine list was super interesting too - short, with affordable options and wine from well outside the mainstream choices A small team who know their worlds of foods, wine and service. We have been talking about it repeatedly since our visit. Would happily go again right now (whenever Right Now might be !).More

We had the 4 course taster menu with a couple of other courses added as we went. All of the courses displayed the level of skill and execution that I’d expect from a Michelin starred restaurant. The menu is clearly designed to demonstrate these skills...across a wide variety of local produce - different meats, seafood and vegetable. There are some wonderful surprises in there as well, I was particularly taken with the interpretation and presentation of a regional cheddar (no spoilers here!). The local produce and nose-to-tail ethos behind the restaurant certainly appeals to us as we’re part of a local sustainable food venture. I did think that a couple of the tasting courses were too small to really savour the flavour combinations. Having had many similar meals before, I appreciate the showcase that the tasting menu offers but I do feel that each course should be more than an amuse bouche. The restaurant atmosphere took a bit of getting used to. It’s a friendly place and decidedly casual and unpretentious. The décor is described as clean and unfussy but the reality is that this means lots of hard surfaces though and that creates a slightly echoey place where you’re a bit wary. You’re also either very close to other diners or facing them so that (if you’re not one of those loud types) you start off feeling uncomfortable having a conversation at your table. But as the evening drew on, we got used to that and actually ended up warming to the arrangement as all the diners seemed to relax in the wider company. I really hope this place goes on to be very successful. It’s bold and unpretentious.More

A wonderful evening - the tasting menu was fabulous, the service was charming and informal (yet informed) and the atmosphere fun and relaxed. An altogether memorable meal.

What an amazing experience, visited with friends and had the most fabulous evening. Yes, it may have been the great wine picked by our host, or the endless chat from our guests. But the highlight was truly the food. The kitchen team has been able...to match portion and quality, which is very rarely seen. Cannot wait to return at regular intervals!More

Four of us visited and had not previously been to Pignut. We enjoyed the four course menu - one of us is pescatarian and was well catered for. We made some additions to the menu making it five courses. The food was very good and...the service knowledgeable and attentive. It is a small restaurant (six tables) but very pleasant. Some of the wine was a bit pricey but overall, we all enjoyed it very much and plan to return.More
