Established in 2013, Taaj Restaurant and Lounge is situated in the heart of Magherafelt. The Taaj name comes from the initials from Traditional, Authentic, Aromatic Journey. Our Head Chef Madan Lal, has travelled around the world working in 5 star hotels and restaurants exploring new ways to create fresh and exciting Indian dishes. On the ground floor we have a lounge and a bar and our takeaway area.Front of house we have high professional team who worked different five star hotels in india & abroad. In the lounge you can relax after your meal and enjoy after meal drinks. On the first floor we have our restaurant and bar. In here you can enjoy fresh, aromatic and exciting food from around India.

We went here for dinner and the food was amazingly tasty, I have tried other Indian restaurants in the area but there is no comparison in the taste. The service was outstanding in warm cozy and romantic atmosphere .We had Butter Chicken , mutton roganjosh and it was so yummy n flavorful .Chefs special Balti is also a must try and this will capture your taste buds We enjoyed the vegetarian and non-vegetarian entree with fresh Tandoori Naan bread and basmati rice. We highly recommend this place to everyone.

Food was unreal and service was great will definitely be back. We had the meal deal starters and main course for £16.95 portions were very filing and flavour in both dishes was great. Also had garlic naan - I would highly recommend

Had a beautiful flavoursome meal. Staff very attentive and informative explaining the menu and forthcoming with great recommendations. Compliments with the highest regards to the Chef for a superb meal. Only negative was the Restaurant itself was very cold, resulting in our early departure after starters and main courses. We were out to make a night of it and would gladly have sat on for desserts and wine. Sadly it was not comfortable enough to do so. I think our next meal from Taaj will have to be a carryout.

Really, really disappointed with the food , a grumpy man looked at his watch at 8 pm when we asked had he a table for two. The curry had zero flavour. I complained to the waitress and said it was planned, she asked what did that mean. She failed to tell the grumpy man and when I was paying, I thought she made mention I was unhappy with the food but she didn’t bother. I am not a huge Blogger on food but I would definitely avoid this place, it’s a rip-off and the food is brutal.

Very poor chicken tikka masala and paswari nann bread. Going by the reviews I thought the place would be good but I was sorely disappointed when I took the food home. This meal was so bland and flavourless. After recently moving to magherafelt I thought I'd give this a go but I will never be back. If this is their standard it is ridiculous that they are still in business...I have always visited the Khayber in Galgorm and this restaurant falls far below their quality. Perhaps there is no competition and that's why they produce such a poor quality meal, I suggest they visit Galgorm and have a taste of the quality they should be producing.

Paid a premium price for a single beef Madras with Boiled Rice. The curry wasn't like Madras at all rather it was watery and flavourless, the beef was described as tender but was not tender at all. You can get way better Madras curries elsewhere for half the price literally. This was a very disappointing experience- I can literally get better frozen Madras curry from Iceland!
Deleted the app from my phone. Felt like I was scammed.

Absolute robbery for delivery £15.60 for delivery for a 18 min drive. It took 1hr 15 mins to get here never had such bad service before. food was not worth it not nice very very greasy DO NOT ORDER !!! from here avoid

Awful. Got a takeaway this evening- £18.95 for 6 tandoori prawns. Vegetable curry that comes with tandoori had no vegetable. Onions with tandoori are literally raw onions. Cheese naan has no cheese at all. Was so hopeful for a decent takeaway only to be robbed £25 for absolutely cold and disappointing rubbish.

Visited with my partner over the new year the food was delicious I always go for lamb and my partner had his favourite chicken punjabi masala. Big portions and so many dishes to chose from naan bread is to die for and so are the masala chips. we visit as much as possible and have never been disappointed by the food or service can't wait until next time. Highly recommend to try it if you haven't already

Their menu is filled with Asian delicacies with a touch of UK moderation, most importantly their prepration seems rich for all dishes.
I would want to go back with family and friends to savour thr authentic taste of mouth watering curries.

I stumbled upon this place by sheer coincidence and it was a gem of discovery. I ordered a Taaj Special Korma, Chicken Tikka Shashlik & Bettered Chili Garlic Prawn. I am not exaggerating, the food was heavenly. The chicken tikka was flavorsome in every bite, and the chili garlic prawns were a delectable starter. The Taaj special Korma was fabulous and finger-licking. Keep up the good job team Taaj. Highly recommend this place.

I went to this restaurant on my own as I’m away on business. The food was excellent. In fact it was possibly the best Indian food I have ever had the pleasure of eating. It isn’t the cheapest food around but it is definitely worth paying the extra for. The front end staff were very pleasant and couldn’t do enough. The decor was very nice and clean and they had upbeat Indian music playing in the background. I will definitely be going here again. Many thanks

Can’t recommend taaj enough. Have been a loyal costumer for a long time, food is always amazing, my favourites are punjabi masala or butter chicken as well as masala chips and garlic cheese naan! We are always so well looked after by all staff
.Cant wait until we can sit in again and enjoy a cold cobra with great food!

Had dinner and drinks in Taaj last night and it’s honestly my favourite restaurant ever, they had all the proper social distancing and safety measures In place so we felt very safe. Food was amazing as always and the staff were so accommodating, they even gave us a round of shots on the house. Fab vegan/veggie options also! Thanks Taaj!

2 very underwhelming curries! Bland taste which looked and tasted like it had been made in a large batch with little care and thought. Don’t think I will be making a return trip. Pity as in the past the food was good.
