Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

My husband and I spent two nights in Mallaig at the beginning of February. Our guest house host recommended the Chlachain Inn for dinner. We booked a table for 6pm. The food was delicious with a great choice. The breaded haddock was tender and tasty....The place was busy but the service was fast and efficient. The next day we called in for a coffee around late morning, it was delicious. We booked a table for dinner that evening. When we arrived, there was a crowd watching the Six Nations match between Scotland and England and there was a great atmosphere. Once again, the food was delicious. It was the offseason when we visited Mallaig and there was only the Chlachain and one other hotel and restaurant catering to visitors. I would not hesitate to recommend the Chlachain In for great food and friendly service.More

We had seen this restaurant advertised & really wanted to go. There were 9 of us. We didn't book just turned up & they were able to accommodate us. So pleased we went here as the restaurant, staff & food is fantastic. The children enjoyed...playing pool while waiting for their food. We all had different dishes & each of us really enjoyed our food. Very well cooked, decent portions & very tasty. The adults all tried something they hadn't had before & really enjoyed it. Would very highly recommend & would definitely go back again.More

Great service and food even at an extremely busy time when the train had just arrived and most other places were closed for the winter season.

We called to book a table and was told there were no tables available. We were told that we could have a takeaway so I informed the waitress that I would go online to see the menu and call back. After reading the menu I...chose the mushroom risotto and my partner chose the lamb with fondant potato. We were staying at the hotel next door who kindly let us sit in the dining area to eat. My partner collected the takeaway and took it to the hotel. We opened it to find a curry and something that we're still not sure of. I called back and explained this wasn't our order, perhaps it was mixed with someone elses. The waitress then went on to explain that I must have been looking at an old menu. I told her it was the menu from their own website and that my partner can't eat curry and I can't eat peppers. She spoke to someone (we later found out was the chef) and we heard her explain to him that we looked at the wrong menu. His response, "unlucky. I was obviously not impressed. Another person (Cameron) came on the phone and said there was nothing they could do. I asked to speak to a manager to be told there wasn't one but he would send my number to the owners. I asked the receptionist at our hotel if she had contact details for the owners of next door. She sent a text (with my number) asking them to contact me. Within 2 minutes I recieved a call from the waitress saying we could have a refund or they can make something else up for us. We chose the latterand asked where we could view the menu. She told us there was no up to date menu online so read out the menu. I chose the fish and chips and my partner chose the steak pie. The waitress did drop it off to us and was apologetic. I have no issue with her whatsoever. I couldn't go next door as I'm in a wheelchair and there was a lot of stairs at the hotel and it was absolutely pouring rain. Still waiting for a call from the owners. The chef should definitely be pulled up about this, 1 for his comment and 2 because he obviously said there was nothing they could do. The second meal we received was very tasty and that's the only reason I gave 3 stars. It's a 1 star for customer service.More

Lovely lunch. Relaxed on the couch by the fire. Soup and a drink was sufficient for us. Courteous service without hurry (they didn't rush to us very quickly), but the food was just right. Aesthetics were a little less than 5* score, but the toilets...were really nice (whisky and honey soap too). Would highly recommendMore

Mallaig in January is quite uninviting but my wife and I had a great stay here. None of the summer busyness and great train ride from Fort William. Great staff and breakfast, super friendly. 5 stars but don’t have the carbonara

We stayed the night and ate dinner and breakfast here. The room was very comfortable and the service excellent but the food was the absolute highlight of our stay. It is so good that eating it is a spiritual experience. Our dinner was unbelievably good...despite what we ordered being relatively simple. My partner was very impressed by the langoustine and my burger was incredible despite having none of the frills everyone seems to add to burgers these days. I didn't know that something as simple as poached eggs on toast could possibly be better than perfect but the ones I had for breakfast were. The chefs here are very good at what they do. If you have no reason to visit Mallaig, dining here should be one.More

Food was amazing, an open fire as you walk in, along with a lovely atmosphere to enjoy dinner and great Staff. Four of us called in for dinner we were immediately made welcome and shown a seat. Toni was both attentive , efficient very friendly...and did a great job. We will definitely come here again and recommend it highly. By way of a heads up all the traditional local food was best, e had white bait, haggis, mussels. Main course consisted of steak and cheese, local haddock and chips, piri piri chicken burger. No complicating with anything. 👍More

This is a very friendly pub, which has a cosy atmosphere and a pool table. The staff are very willing to help with any problems and let us dry out by the fire. On a day when nothing else was open, they welcomed everyone in....Overall, this was a very nice pub and I would definitely recommend it as one of the best in Mallaig.More
