I had visited here in 2015 with my son and had expounded the virtues of No 31, so ... with another couple we booked here in November 2016 for Waitangi Weekend 2017 .. we were all delighted .. pre dinner cocktails, beautiful menu which tempted us to step outside our comfort zone .. the wild hare entree was unbelievable, the... This restaurant was reccommended by a friend and was perfect. My husband and I were staying in Hanmer for a couple of nights and didn't want the usual 'meat with lots of chips' and sport in the background type of place. No. 31 was excellent. My husband had the pork belly and I had the steak. Both cooked to perfection.... More

I thought the food was mediocre. After 10 days of great restaurants this one was merely average. The special was tasteless though the lamb was ok. There was not a starter on the menu that was light enough to order. Wine list was limited The staff was delightful and the service was good despite being crowded. I think they have... More

Not a large menu but food was good, service attentive without being over the top. I did think Craft Beers were overpriced with a can costing $16.

This restaurant is well worth a visit, the food is beautiful and the staff are friendly. You will need to book in advance as they are usually very busy.

Had a good dinner here, the food is well presented, we each had a main course and were happy with the food, service was prompt even though they were busy. The atmosphere is a bit austere has a sort Swiss feeling to it without the atmosphere

We sat outside as it was a warm evening. The service was very friendly and prompt - we made the comment that in some restaurants you are told that it takes time as all the food is made to order. The food is all made to order here, but there is no hanging around hungry for an hour! We shared... More

We were early but the friendly staff were more than happy to seat us. They had great knowledge of the wines and food and were happy to chat in detail rather than rush away. Food was amazing and such generous portions!! Fantastic cocktails and they were happy for 6 of us to share 2 deserts as we wanted to try... More

Make sure you book a table here if you're lucky enough to visit Hanmer springs. We didn't book a table but they fitted us in which was wonderful. We soaked up the last of the days rays while we sipped on our cocktails. The Raspberry Rose was sensational!!! The 4 of us ordered 4 different mains and they were all... More

My wife and I went No 31 following other reviews on Trip Adviser, it didn't disappoint, the restaurant itself was very classy, the staff were friendly and actually had a conversation rather than just order takers. The food was outstanding, tasty and well presented a little on the pricey side but you get what you pay for. The only criticism... More

Description
The former "Laurels" Restaurant re-opened its doors in May 2012, as "No.31 Restaurant & Bar", an A la Carte Restaurant specializing in modern European/New Zealand Cuisine. The restaurant is set in a quaint character cottage on the main street of Hanmer Springs. French doors open out to a lovely courtyard for alfresco dining and an outside bar leaner for pre-dinner drinks/cocktails in the warmer months. Inside the restaurant it is very homely, with an open fire, wooden floors and candle-lit tables. Award winning chef/owner, Michael van de Wiel ( previous chef/owner at "The Old Post Office Restaurant", Hanmer Springs, for 12 years). Fully Licensed and NOT BYO. Reservations Recommended.
