Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Lovely tapas with a different menu than most. Really friendly staff and need to book after 7.30. Showing our age as most of Mao/Mahon go out after 9.30! Perth closes at 9.30!!!

My wife enjoyed her lunch at Akelarre on Friday, and she brought me there on Saturday. Holy cow, everything was fantastic - the service, the ambiance, and especially the meal. My wife ordered the fried calamari from the starter menu, and the goat cheese salad....I could not resist trying the calamari, which was as lightly coated and as gently fried as imaginable. And as a result it could not have been more tender or tasty. The goat cheese salad was also delicious, with super fresh greens, walnuts, warmed and browned goat cheese, and blueberry vinaigrette dressing. Meanwhile, I had two mouthwatering, delicately crispy calamari croquettes infused with calamari ink. As I told our server, they were the best croquettes I've had anywhere. Simply amazing. For my main course, I had local mussels steamed in white wine, butter, and parsley, and served with a half loaf of fresh, crusty Menorcan bread. The mussels were smallish, but oh so sweet and full of flavor, and the broth was out of this world delicious. For dessert, we shared a house-made Tiramisu, that (sorry for the redundancy) was the best I've had in Spain, maybe anywhere. It was clear for the start that both the hostess and server thoroughly enjoy and are passionate about their work. (We think they are the owners.) The result was impeccable service, which only made the great works from the kitchen even more enjoyable. We had a wonderful experience from start to finish, and we look forward to returning soon. I've listed Akelarre as a "hidden gem" or "off the beaten path. In fact, it's on Moll de Ponent, the main harborfront street, directly across from the cruise ship terminal. But its storefront is so understated, and it's sandwiched in between several other restaurants and bars, it might be easy to miss. But don't miss experiencing this great restaurant.More

I have been visiting Menorca off and on for 12 years. I like the laid back vibe. But I also like some music and atmosphere. Akelarre provides both especially during the summer season. Even out of season there is a good vibe there late on...Friday and Saturday nights. The restaurant has s good selection of food and you can sit inside or outside. I prefer the darker interior. Akelarre has been run by the same family who originate from the Basque region for the past 37 years! They all lend a hand in the busy months and give a warm welcome. There is live music at the weekend and weekdays in August. It is certainly one of the livelier spots in Mahón. Drop by and have a beer!!More

We went to mahón for an evening out not expecting much as Menorca is a quiet island. But what a find! From Aitor and his lovely Mamma Marie Luz to the good atmosphere it was all great. Would recommend this bar to anyone wanting a...little nightlife ❤️More

Stumbled on this place after a failed visit to the gin distillery- so cool and chilled literally after the heat of Mahon in June. We only had drinks at about 4 pm ish, but it looked like the food would be nice there and a...lot of effort was going in to setting the scene for dinner.More

Very nice food. Service a bit patchy - our order came out at intervals, longer ones than we expected. Also some work to do on pricing - my friend ordered anchovies which was €14 - 5 little fillets arrived. This didn't compare well to pricing...of similar dishes in other local restaurants. Nice atmosphere here though, inside of the place was lovely, clean toilets (well I can really only vouch for the ladies but it was nice!).More

My boyfriend and I stumbled across this restaurant. Beautiful setting, delicious food and brilliant service! Waiters were really welcoming and friendly and couldn’t do enough for us! We would definitely recommend this restaurant. A few days after we returned and had dinner here also.

Chosen from a row of restaurants, many others appearing more international and less "local". Delicious tapas served with friendliness and promptly. Pity the restaurant is just beside the port road but at least it is easily accessible. Close to the gin distillery too !

This restaurant is conveniently located across the street from the cruise ship terminal, we stopped by for lunch after doing some shopping. One of the local specialties is local cheese from Mahon. It was presented with cut fruit and tomato bread. We also ordered the...Calamari and we can taste the difference between the fresh one they used versus the frozen ones we normally get at home in the States.More

Called in for lunch down by the harbour away from the hustle of the town. Food and service were the best we had experienced in Menorca by a lot. Great position by the harbour for watching the world go by. We first came for lunch,...followed by dinner that night and lunch the next day. AwesomeMore

We stopped for a light lunch and it was brilliant. My cucumber carpaccio was delicious and great for lunchtime. My husband had the gazpacho (served in a glass with a straw) and it was one of the best he's eaten. Lovely selection of wine and...a great spot to people watch. We were disappointed to miss out on the live music as it was early in the season but this seems like a very cool bar with a great atmosphere.More

We found this place by accident but so glad we did. The staff possibly the owners were friendly and gave us free tapas at the bar. The menu is very reasonably priced . We had the squid and monk fish , both quite delicious. We...followed it with the homemade coconut cake which was also great.More
