Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Mestre was the first to bring contemporary dining to the island. The owner was a true innovator. Winters were spent primarily in Madrid searching new ideas for his restaurant. Sadly the food once served by chefs is now a dumbed down version prepared by cooks....The menu is much smaller and there are no specials. After 10 years as loyal customers, my wife and I paid our final visit last week. For anyone that never experienced the earlier incarnation, there's a chance you will be impressed. My wife and I came away somewhat disappointed and quite sad. Ten years ago the menu was what could be described as challenging. Some dishes were obviously work in progress but that was all part of the experience. The owner was on hand to discuss and was keen to get feedback from diners. Last week our meal had no highs and only one dish that impressed. Pre Covid the croquettes were a 11 out of 10. Molten, gooey and a massive umami hit. We have jokingly said they were worth the airfare to Menorca. The generic version served on our recent visit were downgraded to a 7. The second dish was the smoked scallop. The small (was it cut in half) mouthful was served in a shell containing a small pool of soy, sesame oil and lime? Both of us were waiting for a burst of flavour that never materialised. The Thai Pork and squid salad should be downgraded to simple Pork and squid salad. There was no trace of any Thai influences. Absolutely zero Next up was a dish we both found quite offensive. The fish ceviche. Once upon a time this was a taste sensation. Last week, the tiger's milk associated with the curing was replaced by what tasted like a thickened fish stock. Very weird and unpalatable. Fortunately the day ended with the best dish. Beef flank with baby "crispy" potatoes. The meat was tender and quickly seared on the plancha. Having said that, if a cook / chef got this wrong, they should be flipping burgers at McDonalds. It is worth mentioning that the owner has interests in two other restaurants on the island. One is excellent and the other is still on the bucket list.More

We tried to get served drinks here last night, hoping for some really lovely wine as it’s a wine bar When we arrived around 7.15 there were no other drinkers or diners to be seen We asked to be seated and for the wine list...We were rudely told we had to sit at the barrels (used as tables) with high seats if we were just drinking I explained I have a back problem and asked if I could use one of their many chairs whilst we shared a bottle of wine. I was told in uncertain terms that this was impossible as all chairs would be needed for diners I pointed out there wasn’t a single diner in sight and we only wanted to drink, so would be leaving within an hour. My request was still denied and we were were left with a menu When the girl returned (she barely spoke English) she couldn’t help us choose a bottle wine as she couldn’t understand us. So off she went to get an English speaking colleague who could help us (allegedly) Still no other diners in sight at this point After 10 minutes neither returned, so we left, upset and without having anything to drink. A complete waste of half an hour of our holiday This is the worse customer service and direct discrimination towards a disabled person, we have ever experienced anywhere in the world. Please find somewhere else to spend your euros This establishment is a total disgrace.More

We are residents here on Menorca but had never stopped at Mestre before. It’s a beautiful little venue on the port of Mahon. Comfortable dining and subtle lighting add to the ambiance. Warm welcome from all the staff. Suggestions staff made on the menu choice...were spot-on! From flank of beef in Asian lettuce wrap to Thai squid and chargrilled pork salad, scallops were all delicious. We were having a long difficult day but thanks to stopping-off at Mestre the evening turned into a relaxing treat. We will return again and again now we have discovered this gem of a bistro!More

Visited tonight on a very good recommendation to finish our wonderful holiday on a high .. big shame . Waiter at first was very friendly but slow to deliver . Specials on the board were apparently not available . Asked the waitress 4 times to...serve an extra bottle of wine - totally ignored & scolded at us throughout our visit . Waiter belittled us explaining the menu . Food was excellent but service was extremely poor & totally unwelcoming . When we complained , bread was placed on table ( after our meal ) as a goodwill gesture then charged on the bill . Very disappointed as the staff spoilt the occasion .More

From the moment you walk into this restaurant you feel welcome. Our host knew his wines and was able to explain the menu fully as well as recommend the perfect wine. The staff were also attentive and the view of the Harbour is a lovely...accompaniment to the meal. And the food, ah, the food! Everything was delicious. The burrata, the cauliflower, the prawn, the chicken cannelloni and the beef, all superb! We would highly recommend visiting this restaurant when visiting Mahón.More

Walked in for an early lunch. Thai salad, scallops, prawns, chicken cannelloni, cheesecake all very good. Took a bit of time to pay the bill when it was very busy. Won't hesitate to recommend.

Food was excellent! We had four dishes to share, all an explosion of flavours. Consulted the staff for wine, who found a local wine ( I asked for local) right for our taste.

We had lunch here with tree people. We shared everything and all was very tasty. We started with ceviche and grilled octopus, both very much recommended. After that we had white asparagus with egg and then a t-bone steak which was one of the best...we have ever eaten, grilled to perfection with a nice bbq taste. Desserts were also good. Staff was very friendly. All in all I would pass by the bigger restaurants and go for this small friendly one.More

We popped in for a drink as none of the restaurants around this place allowed to just sit down for a refreshment without ordering food. Which is bizarre as the area was very quiet. But anyway. The place was acommodating and we had a few...nice drinks. Good service and lovely location.More

Delicious meal. We received really helpful recommendations from the waiters about food and local wine - our advice is to ask. The waiter who spoke to us about the food had a real passion for the menu and his advice was very good! Tasting menu.../ tapas style. We were advised to have 4-6 half plates to share. We went with 6 and had a varied and fabulous meal. Can’t recommend this restaurant highly enough.More

Exceptional food and attention to detail is high on the agenda. I recommend everything we had: their own home-made croquetas, their tacos with oxtail stewed on chillies (it is not too spicy, it’s just about right), focaccia with burrata and cannelloni with chicken in a...rich sauce and fragrant bread. Portions are not very big, so make sure that you order 4-5 1/2 portion dishes to feed your hunger. I will definitely go back!More

There were only a few vegetarian options. We had the tomato salad, which was delicious but it's probably worth looking else where as most dishes are meat or fish based :)
