Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Just wow! On top of a hill overlooking a beautiful valley, a restaurant in a tiny village which serves stunning food. It’s really worth the drive to get there! Had the wild boar and truffle with spinach and chocolate cake. So delicious. Such a relaxing...setting and lovely friendly hosts, you must visit!More

This is a lovely restaurant in a tiny hamlet near Magione. Delicious pasta and much else. It’s very popular and keenly priced. We shall go again.

Wow, what a place! Tucked away in the hills of Magione in a tiny hamlet, this place serves amazing umbricelli pasta with a wide array of sauces. Of course they also do appetisers and main courses, but the pastas are the stars of the show....Nice views of the Umbrian hills too. Worth seeking out as it’s off the beaten track.More

A hidden gem, with truly outstanding food. We had a family lunch in early August and loved it. The pasta is out of this world, especially the tagliatelle al cinghiale. Lovely (recommended) local Umbrian wine to match. Service was friendly, informative and exceptional. This restaurant...is special.More

Lovely customer service to start the evening off well. Their outdoor terrace is completely covered and they have ceiling fans. But they are up a hill looking out over a valley so we had some nice breeze while we were there. Food is wholesome and...yummy. I highly recommend a pasta dish that was cooked in wine, I forget the name but I'm sure you'll see it. Its delish! We also had the stuffed pigeon which was also good. Highly recommend dining here.More

Really you come to realize that this place is a bit of a local legend. The umbricello red or white stirred in a full cut wheel of Gran Padano, heated with a flame then stirred and scraped to make a cheesy, delicious noodle pasta. Their...starters and alternatives are excellent as well as we've been more than once now. Easy trip from Lake Trasimeno and near the fantastic Cantina Berioli winery which offers tastings. We've done both on the same day twice and this makes a perfect afternoon / evening. We were really surprised how it filled up with locals on a Tuesday in October. Great service and staff who work really hard to get everything out and make you welcome.More

Indeed pasta is "the food" for Italians. I did like it and love to find and taste new kinds (in Italy we have more than 300 types of pasta, did you know it?). But my own "contrappasso", like Dante Alighieri would say, is a sort...of intolerance. Many and many times, eating pasta, pizza or bread I feel an uncomfortable fullness and bloating that prevents me from eating these foods. Anyway, we arrived at l'Umbricello del Coccio counseled by a friend. You simply CAN'T arrive here by chance : Via dei Montemelini, in Montemelino, sounds like a lullaby rhyme or a fairy address... . But the small village is worthwhile: the manor uphill is of Conestabile della Staffa's family, an old Umbria noble family, now good wine producers. In WW1 one of them was shot by a bullet... in the small crucifix on his neck, so saving his life. To thank for the miracle, he built a sanctuary to Lourdes Holy Mary, and in the small houses near the church and the manor a small restaurant opened. Nowadays Marco Pignattini hosts the restaurant proposing a challenge: do everything like it was done in old times, first of all "umbricelli" a local kind of pasta, "similar" to tuscan pici. To testify and control this challenge, the portrait of two old ladies, relatives of Marco, who taught the old recipes - and secrets - to Marco himself. But the MAIN winning secret of Italian food is SIMPLICITY. When you have the right flour - and Marco uses a mix of three different, he will tell you which three, but NEVER the doses -, the right salt, the right water, (or WINE because some recipes use umbricelli made by wine and flour!), the right oil, cheese, tomato, herbs... It's SIMPLE to get unforgettable results. Marco's Umbricelli will hit your taste like the old bullet hit the crucifix! The touch of mixing up hot umbricelli in a form of cheese, melting and adding taste, the small terrace with the marvelous view, the smell of herbs and trees surrounding you... simplicity makes Chef a Master ! (by the way: in two we ate 1000 grams of umbricelli with cheese and pepper... not a minimal sense of bloating, not any difficult in digestion... Marco's miracle umbricelli!)More

We visited twice, both times we were 2 couples for a dinner occasion. The restaurant is always busy, reservations are necessary. They have indoor sitting and outdoor on the terrace. Super crowded. The downside is only one waiter with one assistant. They were so super...busy. Accordingly, the service was slow. We didn’t mind that as we were enjoying our company. We took our guests here as we wanted them to see how umbricelli with Sagrantino wine are passed in the Parmigiano cheese bowl (for a little dining entertainment). The waiter though was not planning to move close to us before we specifically asked for it. As I said, the restaurant was very busy and they wanted to avoid to move around with the cart. We liked our waiter’s sense of humor and I remember he was the same one from a year ago. Memorable character.)) For our dinner we went with Sagrantino wine and all typical dishes. I especially appreciated coratella and umbricelli pasta with Sagrantino wine. The only disappointment was the chicken liver pâté, which was extremely dry and crumbly. Definitely the worst we have ever had. The rest was fine.More

This is a great restaurant if you are a meat lover. They do a great “Fiorentina” - the Italian T-bone steak, and pastas with great meat sauces including wild boar and goose, both traditional in this area. They have a lovely terrace in the summer,...which is ventilated and cool as it is high up. The service is rough and ready but friendly and mostly efficient. Well worth a visit for typical Umbrian food.More
