We had the Tuna tartar, squid and the best meat I had in a long time, all the food we had in the following days was a blessing. The owner of the restaurant Juan is a legend!! Worth to visit only to have a conversation with such an interesting guy, he even writes poems and his knowledge about gastronomy is... More

Welcoming host. Food left a lot to be desired to our Tastes. Might have just selected badly as was busy. We had kind of frittered burgers and chicken for mains. Starters of squid with chick peas, mussels and tuna salad. The salad was best. Did have a great selection of ice cream but we couldn't face them. Can sit outside... More

We had late dinner and were happy with service but less with the food. Maybe we made a wrong choice, but the mussels and the ray fish were just OK. But the restaurant is cheaper than others around and the ice creams compensated.

yes. we had the 16 euro menu, but it was completely of poor quality. I had chipirones and rice which was definitely made from frozen squid and the wife had lomo (she couldn't eat even a small piece). We think the meat was past it's sell-by date. Maybe the chef was having an off day, but we can not understand what... More

I have been in Somo quite a few times and we always spend one dinner at Melly's. We were a group of 8 and the owner was very kind in finding a suitable spot without reservation. All of us opted for the 16 euros menu which consists of two dishes, water, wine, dessert and coffee. I personally had the Marmita,... More

Just got off the boat at Santander and walked into Somo 3 hours later when we got to our Casa, this is the first place we went for dinner that evening, got there about 8pm , what we didn't realize then is that the locals don't normally eat out until 9.30 pm onward, so we were accommodated, but it was... Great value menu del dia....good choice of dishes for 16E for three courses + wine, ,although might be advisable to check out exactly what you're ordering. We ended up with oxtail, which was, fortunately, delicious. As was the lemon dessert. Extremely popular place so may be worth popping in to reserve a table.

Melly Gaviota is all about great produce and products sourced locally, fresh fish in season and simple traditional recipes prepared daily. This is a restaurant for true foodies and Juan Angula, sommelier and slow food enthusiast, provides an unforgettable culinary experience. We look forward to dinner (or lunch) at Melly every time we are in Cantabria. The setting is unpretentious,... More

At the end of a cold, rainy, and dreary May week of biking in Cantabria, we once again found ourselves in the bizarre (to Americans) circumstance of wandering through a town at 9 PM ready for dinner and finding not a single table occupied in the half dozen or so restaurants and cafes that were open. The locals had already... More
