Found a restaurant in Parthenay that was open on a Sunday evening that would serve people after 20.00. Had the set meal at 23€ for four courses. All food was served with generous portions. Do have the truffade it was excellent. The waitress was very helpful and there was a good ambiance in the restaurant which was mainly local people. Although getting cool we still managed to sit outside on the terrace and enjoy our meal. We had a red Mareuil wine from the Vendee which was very smooth and reasonable priced. I look forward to my next meal here

La Truffade was recommended by our accommodations host and we were very pleased with the outcome. We visited on a Tuesday evening and enjoyed a quiet and memorable dinner. Our limited French was not an obstacle and our waitress was very attentive and helpful. We soon realized that la truffade was offered with many of the entrees, so we concluded that if the restaurant was named after this food item, we probably should not pass up the opportunity to try it. It turned out to be a potato dish with cream and cheese which was similar to potatoes au gratin but 10 times better. We highly recommend ordering the truffade if you visit La Truffade! It was particularly satisfying to pick our dessert from the refrigerated case by the door.

Ate here a few years ago, and, disappointed with rather small servings, decided against revisiting. This was particularly annoying as having holidayed in the Auvergne, we had expected generous portions, as that is the Auvergnat way! Stuck for somewhere open to eat on a Monday, we decided to give La Truffade another chance. Perhaps because we opted for one of the more expensive menus, we were impressed this time with portion sizes. The gambas flambee were a good size and more on the plate than one might expect outside a coastal region. The cheese course also impressed with the quality of cheese served. Service friendly, professional and well timed.

This is perhaps my favourite restaurant in Parthenay. The food is actually from the Auvergne, a rural mountainous region about 400 km west of Parthenay, with their signature dish 'La Truffade' being a crowd favourite - mashed potatoes with garlic, butter and cheese. Can't go wrong! It is a very meat-focused establishment, though even vegetarians can find a vegetable platter and a goat's cheese salad. The dishes are not spectacular, but taste really wholesome with quality ingredients, and very reasonably priced. The steaks and the duck are tasty. Wine at reasonable prices. You can sit outside in warmer weather. Lots of local families come here, but it's the kind of place you can eat solo and not feel weird. The extremely friendly waitress somehow manages the whole place, even when full, with a kind of magical aplomb.

The only restaurant still open in the late evening when we arrived in Parthenay after a breakdown on our journey home. Lucky find! Tasty, filling, unpretentious food served with little glasses of a lovely soft vin rouge, and the waitress was kind and attentive. The bill for three courses was a nice surprise too. We had salmon rillettes, duck confit, Auvergne sausage and truffade, followed by iles flottante and creme brulee. All excellent.

I had a warm goats cheese salad and my husband confit duck. The kids thoroughly enjoyed the truffade. Well worth a visit.

I called in for lunch on the Saturday due to there being almost nowhere else open. The seating is very close together but a nice atmosphere. We both ordered omelettes but disappointed to find the only accompaniment was a few leaves of lettuce. This was basic but still enjoyable.

We regularly stop in Parthenay at the nearby Hotel St Jacques on our way to St Malo. One of the good things about La Truffade is that it is open on Monday. Good regional Auvergne cooking. Cheery atmosphere and good service, although it has to be said that on this visit the place was crowded with only one server. She was excellent but rushed. We were in no hurry so this did not matter. Only one criticism: the vegetables seemed more like canned than fresh, not what you would expect in a restaurant of this standard. Next time we will stick with salad and the truffade.

Nice cosy atmosphere, very good service and tasty meal. The lamb rib was perfect, truffade lived up to its name and expectations. It was our second visit and we'll go again.

Takes its name from a traditional potato and cheese dish which is served with almost everything you order. Have been here several times, have eaten indoors and on the terrace (More room outside if the weather is nice) Friendly helpful service and if you want to try the traditional Auvergne dishes the food is splendid. If you do not, then your choice is limited. You need to speak some French as I have never found any staff who speak English. Congenial atmosphere, more like a jolly meal with a French country family.

Overlooking the square in Parthenay, La Truffade is a very friendly restaurant serving good food which includes their special Auvergne potatoes cooked in a truffade. Have visited many times and will return!

Just happened on this wonderful place, on the main square in Parthenay, and would definitely recommend it. They specialize in Truffade (a potato and cheese dish which hadn't tried, similar to Aligot, but maybe better) and a number of Auvergne specialties as well as excellent regular French fare. Easy parking, friendly, efficient service and you can even eat outside on the terrace.

Had a very nice lunch here off the set menu of the day. Pate followed by Auverne ham and the eponymous Truffade. Good and friendly service. Coped with one of the party's gluten intolerance well.
