Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Just popped in on a journey and bar man was really helpful, even though the kitchen was closed, offered us some food. Lovely looking pub!

Booked an overnight room. Check in very easy and staff very polite. No chef available for food which I was not aware of when I booked. Staff did say it was on the website but I did not see it there. As an insulin dependent...diabetic, this was an issue. Tea tray in room sub par for the price. Minimal coffee. No sweetener. No biscuits. Only one small bottle of water for a room booked for 2. Taps in bathroom loose and actually moved when you used them. Water showered all over me from the loose tap. Odd choice of a wardrobe only made a quarter of the way…… The room was clean and the bed comfortable. Amazing view from the window. Atmosphere dull and stifling. Made myself and my sister very uncomfortable. No appropriate place to drop keys off when we left early. No key drop off box.More

Poor quality English breakfast I asked for several items to be removed from the plate as I couldn't eat them and wasn't offered an alternative resulting in a sausage 6 small mushrooms ,a bit of burnt bacon and had to supplement the meal with toast.... The food looked as it had been plated up and served during the course of the sitting. Cold coffee and cramped seating.More

We stayed just one night there was a slight problem with the heating The owner came in on her night off and resolved it quickly. The staff member on duty (Josh) was really helpful he even arranged for an early breakfast. First class service needs...to be recognised. Well done and thank you.More

I saw the Well Inn had a new menu so decided to give their Tuesday Burger night a try. We were not disappointed at all. The staff were all incredibly friendly and attentive without being over bearing. The food was to an incredibly high standard...and reasonably priced. The decor was tasteful, warm and inviting. We will definitely return! Please do not judge this place by its historic reviews!More

After reading the reviews we nearly cancelled our stay. So glad we didn't. Lovely people who couldn't do enough for us. Room was small but clean. Food and drink limited but good selection. Continental breakfast but that is our preference anyway and more pastries than...we could eat. It all has the look of recent redecorating. I asked if it is under new management because of the appalling reviews... It is! Two weeks ago. Still trying to build the menu and get things going again. Just concerned that when we come back it will have got so good that we won't be able to afford it. Good budget accommodation. Great for a good night's sleep. Its not the Hilton but we are not here to sit in the room. Small niggles, shower very small, glad I am not of larger stature and pub closed early with no afternoon check in. We asked for lunchtime check in and they were happy with this. Yes we will be back when in the area,More

Our room was fine and our only problem was that it was a small double bed which is a bit of a squeeze when you have a larger frame like myself . We slept well , no noise or disturbances. Our evening meal was fantastic,...limited menu but the food was piping hot and came out quickly . The portion size was a pleasant surprise , loads of chips , salad , veg and my fish was a good size with crispy batter and all for a reasonable price . The breakfast is a continental affair which did the job as we wanted to make an early start . Overall , really friendly staff , nice decor in the bar area , great food and a really pleasant stay and to boot , it's in a good location for all the local tourist attractionsMore

Possible scam, paid £100 for a room and I called and no one answered the phone, I got to the hotel and door was locked, lights were on but no one was there to open the door. Never responded to my emails after taking £100

I stayed at the Well Inn for 3 nights and could not fault it. Spotlessly clean in my room and throughout the Inn. Lovely selection for breakfast and although the chef was away during my stay one of the lovely ladies made me a huge...plate of chips which were delicious! On my arrival the lovely young man at reception made me so welcome and throughout my stay, everyone of the staff were so, so welcoming, friendly, kind and helpful. For me, travelling solo. i could not have chosen a lovelier place to stay. Highly recommended!More

Unfortunately there is not much positive I can tell about our stay. On the evening we arrived we checked in and asked if we could have a drink before we go to bed. After we got our two drinks, we payed them directly and in...the second we had payed, we were told to please leave the pub because they wanted to close now. Couldn‘t that be said before excepting the order ??? Breakfast: We were told breakfast would be possible until 11 o‘clock. When we arrived at 10 o‘clock everything had already been cleared away. On the other two days no one cared what was missing from the breakfast buffet at all. I had to take care of everything by myself - one after the other. Even basics like plain water for the tea, getting the milk refilled, cheese, an egg, bread and much more. The whole place was dirty, the tables sticky, all carpets in our room and the stairs filthy. Sleep: The window to the loud street right in front was broken and could not be closed. Since five o'clock in the morning, we had been wide awake from the lorries thundering past our window. One might as well have put the bed directly in the middle of the road. At least the relatively new towels were very pleasant though.More

Disliked · Upon arrival we were allocated room 6, however upon entering the room it was obvious by the stink that someone had previously been smoking in there. Fortunately we were able to be moved to room 12... a much more spacious room - With...a much smaller TV at the far end of the room!!! The room suffered from a lack of cleanliness throughout, mainly in the ensuite where there was mould & someone's hair still left in the shower. I then requested a gin & tonic from the bar, only for the barman to fill the glass with soda water from the spritzer, insisting that it was tonic..... We then went out to meet up with some old friends & then after a great night we returned back to the hotel at 10.30pm with the hope of grabbing a couple of drinks before last orders.... Only to find that the bar was shut... On a Saturday night!!! So we then went to bed listening to the HGV lorries trundle past the window all night.... The room was cold with two exterior walls & not once did the heating come on, even though the radiators were turned up to maximum. The next day I hoped that the hotel would redeem itself with breakfast..... At £95 for the night, I was looking forward to a great start to the day.... However my hopes were slashed once again as we were informed that only a continental breakfast was available..... This consisted of tinned, sliced ham complete with lashings of gelatine & fat, processed cheese, very stale mini croissants & still frozen & stuck together Tesco medium sliced bread.... Needless to say we didn't eat much..... This must be one of the ....... Nope THE worst place that I've ever had the misfortune to stay in.More

Management really needs a course in how to manage an establishment properly, small dark hair women was very unpleasant and with more attitude than Brighton seafront gave a very cold reception and was not helpful in any way, rooms are awful, staying in a tent...would be nicer!!!, continuous water, leaks, and having to be moved from room to room because of poor maintenance of building ONLY chips available (no rice or pasta), JUST Fried food!!!, was told they made enough money form the week so they could shut when they like, mainly between 12 noon and 6pm I was told…… In total DO NOT STAY HERE OR VISIT!!!!!!. On booking this accommodation I checked the reviews on TA and thought it would be ok. I was was wrong! When we arrived at the The Well Inn we got a frosty reception from the lady at the desk. We asked what time breakfast was...(as we had booked with booking.com) and she said breakfast wasn't included. I showed her the email and she said it was a mistake Booking.com had made and made us feel unwelcome and uncomfortable. We ended up having what they called a continental breakfast which consisted of cheap shop brought sliced bread and if you were lucky a few pastries. Once they were gone, they weren't replaced. There were also some cereals but the milk jug wasn't filled so unless you could find someone to fill it. The lady in the breakfast room was cooking, clearing and filling breakfast, serving at the bar and on reception. She told me she was also on house keeping later on in the day. The service was poor, but not surprising as there was only one unhappy member of staff trying to do everything! The rooms were very dated, grimy and smelt bad. The shower door and bathroom door were both faulty. The worst thing was the beds. The family room had one double - the mattress was very thin, boney and uncomfortable. The bunk beds squeezed every time the children moved. The room was also very hot and as the windows only opened a crack we couldn't get any airflow through the room. I gave the member of staff some feedback back it was clear that she wasn't interested. She told me to email The Well Inn, which I did, and got no reply. My advise is book an air b&b! This place was £140 per night, awful facilities and service!More

Very convenient for Bath & West Showground but slightly haphazard opening & closing hours (and provisions) because of staff shortages. Room & bar restaurant clean. Friendly staff. Would return, hopefully to a better staffed hostelry.
