I returned to Montone for the Festa del Bosco and also to my favorite restaurant: a typical Osteria. Despite there being a very limited menu due to the festival, I had delicious dishes: Chianina Carpaccio and lamb, in particular. The owner, who recognized us, also...offered us a great glass of Umbrian prosecco. Thank you.More

Friendly service, good italian food and reasonable prices. Inside and outside (on the nice Montone square) dining in a nice atmosphere. Recommend to book a table, we were lucky to get one without a reservation.

Reccomended by our farmhouse, we visited this "osteria tipica" in the heart of Montone, a truly beautiful little town. They seated us a lovely outdoor table in a corner, overlooking the main square. We had two local appetizers, "carpaccio" and poached egg (called "sunset on...Trasimeno", if you try it, you'll understand why), and two main courses, lamb and rabbit "in porchetta" style. all expertly prepared. The local wine was reccomended to us by the owner - a "ciliegiolo" to remember. An excellent experience. We hope to return soon!More

We have lived in this region for over twelve years, and of the six restaurants in Montone, this was the only one we had not had an evening meal at. Nice location but things started poorly when my glass of Prosecco, at €10, went in...two sips. Both the Pasta courses were nice but our mains were very poor. My wife’s Wild Boar was dry and tough, my “Rack of Lamb” was just two small cutlets, and the “seasonal vegetables” consisted of two skinny/small carrots and two pieces of raw celery! I mentioned this to the waiter who just shrugged his shoulders and left! This was a disappointing and expensive experience!More

Dear Sir, I'm sorry but in our restaurant we don't serve prosecco, but the bollicina you drank was a hight quality classic method (and it's not the same thing). The lamb you ordered was not a classic "scottadito " but it was a lamb fillet...More

Our friend is a summer resident in Umbria and recommended this restaurant and it did not disappoint. There were two areas where you could eat inside or outside in a courtyard around the corner. The dinner started with bread and and olive oil tasting. The...chianina carpaccio was fantastic as a starter. The menu notes that everything is local and from the Umbria area including the wine. We were pleased with the main courses including one with shaved fresh truffles. I don't believe you can make a wrong choice with this menu. If I come back to the area, I will definitely come here. Highly recommended.More

Delicious food, I had the tartare and chianina carpaccio to start, and everyone tried different things which we shared, we drank craft beers from Montone and loved trying the single varietal olive oils with delicious breads and explanation of what to look for when tasting...them . Can't wait to come back.More

I went there  with my husband and our two daughters last week. It was our fifth time in Italy but our first in Montone. Last Saturday we came across this little restaurant by chance and we decided to stop there and have dinner. Our table...was in the veranda, such a welcoming and enchanting place. They made us feel special by offering us a little oil tasting. These oils were delicious but above all made in Umbria. We started our dinner with 4 glasses of wine, a sparkling made in Umbria wine to be precise. Then we continued with a (pure ciliegiolo) - we had never tasted this wine before, but it was really good. As regarding the dishes, we had 4 starters we decided to share in order to taste as many things as possible. They included a delicate fresh porcini salad, chianina carpaccio, selected regional cold cuts, and a curious reinterpretation of a local dish called "panzanella". We were enthusiastic right from the beginning. Then we decided to share our first courses: "chitarrino" with shrimps, tagliatelle with vegetables and a traditional long pasta with truffle. Then we had two rare cuts of meat, a cabbage roll, and a selection of different types of cheese. We ended our dinner by sharing two desserts: a local chocolate cake and a yogurt cream with fresh fruit - both were great. The bill (wasn't too expensive) taking into accout what we ate. If we ever come back to Italy, we will surely stop there for a meal. Excellent!More

Our vacation in Umbria ended with the discovery of this fabulous little town called Montone. Here we discovered the Tipico restaurant where the chef prepares typical dishes of the Umbrian culture. Very high quality dishes with correct prices and warm hospitality. Fantastic dishes with fresh...truffles and meat of Umbrian origin, tender and juicy. some of our friends tasted the cod which was absolutely fantastic. the wine list offers the best of Umbrian production. recommended for those who want to find an authentic cuisine that respects the tradition of this beautiful region.More

We stayed near Montone last year and enjoyed our visit to Tipico Osteria - good, hearty, local fare in which the owner was duly proud. (We also dined at La Locanda Il Capitano next door - again good, but more expensive and slightly pretentious). We...booked again for last evening and were extremely disappointed to say the least. Tipico and Locanda have joined forces to disastrous effect. We arrived at 8.30pm and ordered prime and secondi courses. Key issues were as follows: all meals were at best luke-warm and at worst tepid; the local pasta with crayfish and fennel was insipid, totally lacking in fennel, with one micro-prawn sized crayfish on the side; the main courses arrived at least 50-60 mins after the primi plates were removed (and only after our complaint); the mains were again warm at best with a total lack of carbs (with none available as ‘sides’; the cod ‘with Castelluccio lentils’ was truly awful - a piece of flaccid, over cooked cod with literally 8-10 lentils scattered over the surface; the lamb was generous but two members of our party ordered it to receive one barely rare and the other well done. I could go on! Most disappointing was the reaction of the ‘maitre’ (who went missing when things were going wrong). Our feedback was met with a string of excuses (‘the lentils were for crunch’, ‘the lamb was of differing thickness’, ‘the food came straight from the pass so couldn’t be cold....a mystery’). In essence, no acceptance, no restitution...no idea! In short the Tipico has been ruined by La Locanda ...avoid at all cost.More

Each year we rent a villa in Montone and each year we go to this restaurant. This year we took friends and it was a disaster. Just one other table filled and we were put next to the kitchen exit until I complained. We ordered,...and the first courses and main courses arrived together. We complained, main courses then took an hour to arrive.(Starter portions now minuscule compared with our first visit.) The lamb was fine but the wild boar stew was lumps of dry grey matter, no sauce. The crayfish and wild fennel pasta comprised one desiccated crayfish (no meat inside it) and pasta with tiny flecks of something green. Tasteless. The olive oils to try were rancid. But the rose wine was lovely! The terrible service rating is down to the kitchen which was busy serving the Michelin starred restaurant next door, and not because of our sweet waitress.More

Possibly living off its name a little, cover charge per person and slightly inflated prices for smaller portions than normal. Great Wild Boar Stew.

What a hidden gem. Montone is a beautiful small hill town with quiet cobbled streets, although on the day we were there a wedding was in progress. But that didn’t prevent us having a quiet lunch at the outside table. We shared a salad of...mushrooms, cheese and truffle to start, followed by pasta with crayfish and gnocchi with a beef sauce. It was all heavenly. Everything here is sourced locally, and they even have a wide range of local olive oils. Worth a visit to Montone for the food alone.More
