Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Well it all depends on what’s important to you. If you want half decent food and plenty of it, the ability to pile as much veg on as is physically possible in a “I’ve paid for it so I’ll eat it mode” and after queuing...with plenty whose sole aim is to do that, then this place could suit you well. The place itself is dire, badly in need of updating and just like a school or works canteen of the 60s or 70s. I am surprised that a place that looks as well healed as Whixley has a village pub like this. It is low cost and good value if that floats your boat.More

The food was nice but the staff were extremely rude and discourteous. It was like they were doing you a favour by selling you a meal. Wouldn’t give us any side plates for our birthday cake and abruptly wanted us to leave once our meal...had been finished so they could have the table back. It was their attitude and arrogance which was very very poor.More

We have been visiting since the kids were young 2005 as it’s such good value for money We now go as a family or just the two of us The same proprietors are there and it’s as amazing ,always welcoming, great atmosphere and the food is...just the best! We have tried many carveries and Sunday lunches over the years and nothing beats the Anchor inn 5* all the way Very happy satisfied customer Great selection of food for a very reasonable priceMore

Managed to get in on spec at 4pm on Mother’s Day. Great carvery, the best around imo. Service good, options aplenty and great value. Highly recommended

Meat and other mains where ok but roast potatoes where frozen and deep fried, other veg was flavourless and gravy was tasteless, squeezed into a corner with no room in between tables. Very disappointed preferred Toby carvery and I don’t think they are the best.

Went for a carvery on the Big Band Night.. The food was OK but the place lacks atmosphere. The staff aren't very friendly and were very quick at asking us to leave when the band had stopped playing. We both enjoyed the music.

5 family members arrived for a 50th birthday celebration at 7o’clock. On our arrival we went straight to the bar to order and get drinks. There were no people except our family at the bar, but we felt rushed to order and pay. The meals...were very good as always and were enjoyed by everyone. Unfortunately it was spoilt by 2 plates being cleared away while 3 people still had a lot of food on their plates, staff were hovering near the table while we were eating and the second our cutlery was put down they cleared the remaining plates. This also happened to our drinks and this really spoilt the evening. Needless to say we did not linger and left at 8. There was no atmosphere and no music playing. Don’t know why they opened as they obviously did not want us there. We have been going for years and felt upset at how we were treated. Disappointed, as we really love the place.More

Booked a table for Sunday for us all - grandparents, parents and three children. If I say that the food tasted home cooked and the choice of menu for a Sunday Lunch was awesome, far more than you would expect for a family pub. It...was a buffet style service (which did at times result in a bit of a queue), but the portions were generous and SO tasty……. Excellent value for money! The Staff were friendly and helpful and you did not feel rushed at all. Definitely well worth a visit, we will certainly be going back very soon!!!!!More

Below standard Sunday lunch, the meat was well cooked and the there were other options including a veggie option which looked great. However the veggies lacked salt and were bland, the gravy lacked flavor and needed lifting with horseradish and mustard. The beer was reasonably...priced and good, however they like to serve well below the measure and needed to be asked to top my glass up twice. When you consider the other fantastic options in the area for Sunday lunch, I’ll probably not return. The only bonus is that is open all afternoon to allow some flexibility with day outMore

We visit quite often and find that the carvery is good value for money (doing particularly well on a weekend), with a good range of dishes and vegetables. The meat was well cooked, the potatoes were well seasoned and it is nice to be able...to add our own sauces. The price has increased quite a lot over the past 2 years, but is still good value with all the price rises that have impacted on restaurants. The only thing that would be helpful is to allow parties of less than 6 to book tables. We had visited for a family members birthday and wanted to book a table well in advance (in the alcove with the fireplace) but despite calling two weeks before, were told it was not possible.More
