Staying in the Chippenham Premier inn we didn’t want to eat in the Brewers Fayre next door. I stay in a lot of Premier Inns on business trips around the country, it’s rare to find one of the attached Brewers Fayre restaurants to be up...to much. We found The Jolly Huntsman on Google maps last night before setting off. Glad we did, it’s a great looking old pub and the landlady behind the bar was lovely. My lad has a fair few allergies and she was more than happy to check ingredients with the chef for us. Food was ace, I had the crispy turkey burger, my wife had the lasagne and they made up a kids meal for our son just as he wanted. Several happy regulars, including another young family, were also in, always the sign of a good village pub.More

Still the finest pub around! Beautiful building, great range of ciders, ales and lagers and great food. A family meal with lush lasagne, chicken supreme, sea bass, scampi and the best huntsman burger. We even managed dessert with sticky toffee pudding and, in my view,...the best which was a white chocolate and Baileys cheesecake. Delicious. Great work crew HuntsmenMore

Very pleased with our choice of this pub, friendly atmosphere and the food was excellent, served quickly and staff were very attentive on checking if our meal was ok. Would recommend the chicken and generous helping of gammon egg and chips. We both enjoyed the...visit whilst staying at nearby Premier Inn as their adjoining option at the Brewers Fayre was very disappointing. Will certainly call again if next in the area.More

My wife and I loved the food and service in this pub, which is in a beautiful georgian building in a lovely traditional village setting. We were made to feel very welcome by the landlord and also many of the villagers who were also in...there. There was a wide selection of food. We had the Lasagne and Scampi, and both were delicious and served quite quickly.More

Absolutely fantastic experience at this B and B! We contacted them beforehand to ask if they had any vegan options for breakfast and they said that they would get some bits in for us. When we arrived we were greeted with a very warm welcome...and we were told the options for breakfast (vegan sausages, bacon, etc) which is amazing! We were then given the keys to our room which was through a gate to the back of the property meaning it was lovely and quiet away from the pub which is great if it is busy on a weekend night. The room itself was cute and country style. We were only provided with one towel but we asked for another and it was immediately brought to the room. The staff were so attentive throughout our whole stay! My only negative comment would be that the room could have done with an extra dust before we got there (e.g on the lampshade) but honestly we didn’t care due to how looked after we felt! The shower was great too with great temperature and water pressure. It would be great if they could add a vegan option or two onto the main menu as a regular option for other guests to choose from such as a sweet potato curry or falafel wrap! We would definitely recommend this B and B to others but definitely ring ahead if you need any special diets catering for! Thank you to the wonderful team for looking after us :)More

We were staying in the nearby Travelodge and asked the lady on reception for recommendations of somewhere for dinner. She suggested The Jolly Huntsman (and from other reviews, I can see this seems to happen a lot). The pub was relatively busy when we arrived...so there was a little delay on placing our order at the bar (barman was clearly busy and got to us when he could. A jug of tap water was requested and the barman said he'd bring it when he got a chance, and within about 5 mins, the water arrived (maybe a minor point, but several other places have forgotten the tap water with the "I'll bring it soon") The menu is varied with additional specials so plenty of choice. The scotch egg starter was delicious. Between starter and main, there was a wait, but a member of staff came over and reassured us that the kitchen was busy and it wouldn't be much longer. Again, just a nice touch that communication was provided (we weren't in any hurry but appreciated the update). Main courses were lovely as well - the mushroom risotto was fresh and creamy. I'd opted for the teriyaki hake which was lovely. Quite a different thing to see on a menu. Desserts were what I would call "classic desserts with a twist" - rather than a plain creme brulee, it was blueberry (which was delicious - the shortbread was perfect). There was a gooseberry tart (I think!) which was beautiful - very unusual to have gooseberries. The only downside is the car park is rather small, but I suspect on street parking would be do-able if necessary. Definitely a place to remember as it's close to the M4More

On the way back to Devon after visits to York, Lincoln, Norfolk, and Buckinghamshire, we were looking for a suitable B&B close to the M4, and found this pub with accommodation in our search. It's just a few miles off the motorway, in a small...village between Chippenham and Malmesbury. We found it easily; the welcome was warm, and we soon were settling into our room, which was accessed around the back of the pub in what appeared to be a converted former ancillary building. The room was on the smallish side - but with perfectly adequate facilities, and we relaxed after our journey, watching "Pointless". After a while, we decided to eat in the pub, rather than driving elsewhere. There was a range of options - in my case accompanied by a local pint - and both meals were satisfying and enjoyable. The evening concluded with a little more TV watching back in the room, before a good night's sleep. The following morning we had an excellent breakfast; after enquiring about the bacon, we were informed that it came from a nearby farm shop and was also stocked by the village shop just a few metres down the street. A pack was bought to take home, as well as some delicious gooseberry jam!More

Staying at the motorway services hotel nearby we asked reception if there was a decent real pub nearby. The member of staff gave excellent instructions of how to get from the westbound Chippenham Delaware site to the venue which only took about 3 or 4...minutes drive south down tiny empty roads. The pub turned out to be a hotel too but we only used the restaurant facility. The pub was warm friendly and atmospheric with a log fire burning. The smell of food was delightful my wife and I both ordered pan fried bass. The meal was cooked to perfection. Every mouthful was a delight, the homemade sauce and veg used were amazing. We didn’t talk much for about fifteen minutes. I tasted the two camra style real ales, they were devine. The red wine was approved by my tasting partner. What a gem this place is to be found just tucked away from the from the beaten track that is the M4.More

A regular eatery for us but recently elevated with a new chef and a new Menu. Tonight we enjoyed the Arrancini and the Prawn and Crab cocktail both of which were superb. But then the mains arrived and we both had Duck - the absolute...star of the show! Tender, flavoursome and I can honestly say the best main course I’ve eaten in a pub in a very long time. The menu offers a balanced mix of pub classics and modern French dishes. It’s one to watch and most certainly visit - I booked a table again for Friday night based on tonight’s experienceMore
