Have just enjoyed a wonderful lunch with friends in The Rose and Crown, a pleasant, traditional pub restaurant. The lunchtime menu had a good choice of meals including jacket potatoes and baguettes. The portion sizes were huge and all of our meals were well cooked and reasonably priced. The list of desserts was equally varied. We were unhurried and service was attentive.

What a fabulous find! Booking a table for Sunday lunch for 7 people and a dog can be extremely difficult but they made it so easy, combining tables for us in the snug. Service was fabulous, food excellent and we’ll definitely be back!

I am not one for writing reviews but I thought on this occasion I needed to. Taking your Mum out for dinner is sometimes quite stressful especially when the food is not up to standard. However on this occasion it was the complete reverse the food was outstanding and beer was terrific, anyone visiting this pub will not be disappointed. The atmosphere was very friendly and the landlord ensured that you had everything you needed, nothing want too much trouble. I will confess that I am quite fussy when it comes to food & drink but I could not fault a thing. Thank you for a terrific meal, we will be back. Mike A

On arrival impressed with the cleanliness and friendly waitress. We were in the main dining room and were aware several tables were waiting for food. Drinks arrived promptly and then we ordered for 3 people. Only had a main each but the wait was 1 hour 10 mins for two roasts and prawn sizzler. Two other tables were waiting too so obviously a problem in the kitchen. The waitress was efficient and doing her best but also dealing with customers in the beer garden so definitely rushed off her feet. When the food arrived it was good quality and nicely presented but the wait was unacceptable and no complimentary drinks offered during the long wait. We were there to try and sort out a venue for 20+ people for a 90th birthday bash early next year but the long wait for food etc. unfortunately meant they have missed out on a large booking for January 2025 as we could not take the chance on this happening again. Just hope they sort out the kitchen problems soon.

Rather disappointing having not been to this venue for food for along time. Popped in, extremely unfriendly manager. Very rude to his staff. Food/menu very disappointing needs more variety also very pricey for the quality of the food. I was very disappointed to hear the tone the gentleman i can only assume was the manager spoke to the 2 ladys in a very rude way which wasnt nice to hear as a customer. I will not be returning

After remembering a lovely meal we had years ago we decided to treat ourselves to lunch here. I chose mushroom stroganoff which was about 12 mushroom quarters floating around in some tasteless thick gravy with enough rice for a family of 4. Even my lager was not very cold. Possibly a warm glass. My husband asked for white bait as a main course which they did do. The whitebait was overcooked and dry with far too much bread. No tartare sauce or anything. The girls were pleasant but food awful. Will not return.

Booked Sunday lunch, thought we would eat in the restaurant but was disappointed to find we were eating in the pub, starters was OK but mains was something else, we ordered roast. The potatoes were only roasted one side and we had one small bowl of vegetables between three of us, enough cabbage to feed a tiny mouse the broccoli was yellow, we have eaten there years before and it was gorgeous. Won't be going back

After a long walk on a Wednesday afternoon we decided to eat at this village pub. We were joined by 2 other family members. We had booked earlier that day. When our first round of drinks were delivered we were told no tabs were available and we needed to pay straight away. This wasn’t a problem and we paid for a bottle of wine and a beer. The second lot of drinks were ordered with the meal. The meals arrived minus the peppercorn sauce for the steak. This was mentioned to the waitress and it eventually arrived towards the end of the meal with very little steak left. Obviously far too late to enjoy with the meal. One of our party had ordered a starter and had said it could come out as soon as it was ready and with the main meals so as not to hold everyone else up. He ate his starter and when he started on his fish pie he noticed a large hair cooked into the top of it. The dinner was therefore picked at and not enjoyed like it should have been. We were not approached by the waiting staff again and couldn’t get their attention. When we did we asked for the bill and mentioned the hair which was sitting on the plate. We were told she would talk to the kitchen about it. The waitress returned with the bill. I asked if the hair had been mentioned and she replied yes. We were not after a freebie meal but were very disappointed by the fact they didn’t care. We paid and left. However, on checking the bill when we got home we had been charged full price for a soft drink that should have been reduced to half price in the “eat out to help out” offer. We left disappointed. Basically we will not be rushing back.

The wife and I had an early Saturday lunch my liver and bacon was plentiful and well cooked equally so my wife`s fish pie just as good . Haven`t been there for a few years but found the pub very clean and the staff extremely friendly and helpful. We will definitely eat there again and will take our grandson who loves mussels (but will check they are on the menu for that day)

We live in the village and this is the second time we have eaten here in a couple of months. The first time my husband had fish pie which was so dry he could not eat it. We were not charged for his meal. Today we went for dinner after a day out for my husbands birthday. He chose the ribeye steak which was awful. Very grisly. They need to find a better butcher. We will not be returning which is a shame as it is so convenient as we only live 5 minutes walk away.

Took the dog for a walk in a local country park and needed lunch. Found this delightful pub. Very family and dog friendly. The food is great, freshly cooked and locally sourced. So welcoming we will be returning.

Visited here on Friday for lunch with a friend. The food was just delicious (thoroughly recommend the ham, egg and chips), and the staff were very attentive and polite. A nice traditional pub with great food and service. I will be back!

Booked a lunch at The Rose & Crown as it's a lovely pub in a quiet village and have been their a few times before the Covid lockdown and restrictions were all put in place. On arrival we were greeted and signed in with hand santiser available and then shown to our table on the patio area. They have a few more picnic style tables so the pub can manage extra patrons but still keep everyone distanced. The service was very good and the 'pub grub' that was available was very well prepared and served in good time. Everything was table service with the staff wearing their required PPE and they regularly checked on the table to make sure we had everything we needed. Definitely head back to The Rose & Crown in full knowledge they're doing their bit towards allowing people to have some sort of normality again.

My family and I recently visited the venue for the first time. We ordered a roast dinner, the 5 bean chilli and chicken nuggets for our son. All I could taste from the chilli was the tin of the tomatoes that was thrown in and my partners roast was a very small portion with vegetables that were not cooked properly. It is a real shame as we have recently moved into the area and were hoping this would be regularly place to visit. Staff seemed like they couldn’t really be bothered with us. We couldn’t finish our mains however the side orders of onion rings and coleslaw helped fill the hunger gap!

We’ve just had a great lunch here at The Rose & Crown in Shorne. What a Great Pub, Food was delicious I had the Chilli and my two friends Roast Chicken(Special) and a Jacket Potato topped with Mushroom Stroganoff. Really enjoyed today, the staff there were so friendly and very nice and professional. We had the best Spotted Dick and custard and Lemon sponge pudding, coffees and a tea. There are usually 5 of us at lunch, two missed out so we’ll be back soon, all five of us. Recommended.
