if you have a vegetarian in your group DO NOT GO. The food and presentation generally is excellent but despite four weeks' notice of there being a veggie in our group what he was was offered was insultingly unimaginative.

Not impressed, food tasted OK but was not worth the money, do not go if your hungry. One bottle of sparkling water £4.50. Overpriced for a small country pub near Nelson!

We went on a Saturday lunchtime having seen the Chef on The Great British Menu. The three course meal was only £28 which we thought was very good value and weren't disappointed. Although the menu choices were narrow we enjoyed every dish we tasted. Also...More

We ate here for first time this evening. It is a converted pub that's on edge of fine dining. The menu had delicious choice of dishes. They work on two course or three for a given price. The choice is a starter from three or...More

We treated ourselves to dinner at The White Swan for our wedding anniversary. We've eaten there several times and each time the food has improved. Each course is delicious with combinations of tastes that are innovative and mouthwatering. The desserts were the best I've tasted,...More

This was lunch with friends and was a spur of the moment decision. We all had the standard menu and thought it was extremely good. The only let down was the sweet menu - a choice of ice cream, ice cream or cheese is a...More

Didn't book, just turned up and hoped for the best. Fortunately we were quite early and got a table for 2. They were very busy later on so I'd recommend to book. Not been here for years but following the chef being on the great...More

Having dined at this establishment on many occasions, and it being a particular favourite of mine, I have to admit to being rather disappointed with our dining experience yesterday evening. The ambience is good, and the staff are extremely welcoming, and we had a lovely...More

I was very interested to try this restaurant after much fanfare about the young chef appeared on master chef. The Sunday lunch was the choice meal and that may not be reflective of the usual food served here. The first thing to know is that...More

Description
The white swan at Fence is a traditional local pub that just happens to serve food, real ales & wines so fine that you will probably do a little dance of delight when you sample them. Backed by Timothy Taylors, fronted by team Turners with cellar queens Liv & Lou plus the boy wonder Tom Parker in the kitchen, we've got a veritable dream team going on. It will be love at first sight, smell & savour.
