One of the most authentic Baba nyonya food I have tasted. Very flavourful and a good variety of choices available here.

Had a meal here , thought it was very reasonable for the type of food and amount that we had. It was authentic and tasty, clean and the ambience was good . I can see this as a regular family diner. Would recommend ...

Recommended by locals, delicious Penang style nyonya food. I personally like curry chicken kapitan, can finished my rice with only the gravy. Reasonable price with choice of small or large portions.

Found this place by accident while wandering about straits quay. The price was reasonable for a very generous portion. And it was worth paying for the authentic nyonya cuisines they dished up. The dishes reminded me of home cooking, of having meals together with my family at home filled with laughter and contentment. The desserts were good as well. Not to mention service was fast, attentive and efficient despite it being a weekend and the place was packed to the hilt. I would definitely return to this restaurant again. It is a new favourite!

Nyonya Breeze serves authentic Penang Nyonya cuisine. We enjoyed the Gulai Ilan Tumis, Hong Bak, Jiu Hu Char and Kiam Chye Ark Thng. It brought back memories of my mom’s cooking. Worth a visit if you are in Penang Island and my Penang relatives who are fussy diners have also recommended this place.

This is a very busy and popular restaurant not far from Costco centre in Penang. Food is authentic Chinese cuisine. Nonya Rice was very good. Spring Rolls are vastly different to what we have in Australia. These have meat in them . The fine noodles and spices added made food flaoursome.

It was Monday and the restaurant was quite empty. Food was coming out very slowly and there were only a couple of tables with a couple of customers each, waiting to be served. When we asked why 2 dishes (one item was a popiah/a fried spring roll) took more than 40 minutes to be served, the cook said there there was a shortage of staff. You should know that staffing is your problem, not mine! We had come earlier but the table that came later got their food first. The boss was arrogant and unapologetic when asked to explain the situation. He said the table that came after us was served first because they ordered the set lunch and it was simpler to cook, so they were served first. So, my dear tripadvisor readers, according to this restaurant's system, it's not which customer comes first, but what is easier to cook that comes out first! You sit and wait until they have finished serving set lunch customers first. Ridiculous! When I asked why a simple popiah took more than 40 minutes in a near empty restaurant to be served, the boss answered that they must serve it together with our one main dish. Not separate as an appetizer, since it was not listed under appetizer in the menu. When asked why when we were there last month and ordered the popiah, it come out first ahead of the other dishes, he answered, "oh, in that case, it's considered an appetizer." Remember, here, the boss is always right! On the menu the fish was stated as "fish wedges". We queried the waiter and asked if they were "pieces" of fish as we don't like heads and tails. He assured us that the dish comprised of pieces of fish fillet. What came out was a head, a tail, and 2 small pieces of fillet. When we asked why this was so, he answered, "I wasn't listening." When we asked the boss for clarification, he said that wedges means heads, tails or any part of the fish. We could have walked out when the food was served but we decided to give him a chance to make things right. It was time wasted talking to him. The food there was ordinary and there are better and more authentic nyonya restaurants in Penang. We would not patronize this restaurant again.

Currently, this is by far the best Nyonya restaurant in Penang, hands down! As a self-confessed foodie, the food here are the closest to "what grandma used to make" (for a commercial kitchen)! The egg belanda, sambal goreng, hong bak, pig stomach soup are our regular favourites. The other entries into their menu are also good.
It must be noted that this restaurant had moved to Straits Quay quite a long while back and the Abu siti Lane address no longer applies.
We have one request for Nyonya Breeze, please bring back your delicious dessert of your Abu Siti Lane years - Apom Berkuah.

My partner and I met up with our friends who happened to visit Penang at the same time. They were asking us where we could go. I have decided to book the Nyonya Breeze Desire at Straits Quay for the reason that nyonya food is a tradition and culture of Penang during the seafarer's days, and a fantastic way to show them the unique culinary culture of Penang. There are a few nyonya restaurants in Penang, but Nyonya Breeze is the closest to us as we stayed at Batu Ferringhi. It is a short 10-15 minutes drive to get there depending on the traffic.
I have only been to Nyonya Breeze once, several years ago. So A second visit is called for on this trip with our friends. It is a nice, clean air conditioned restaurant on level 1 of Straits Quay. Our friends has a baby boy of 10 months. I have asked for a baby chair when I booked the restaurant for 4 adults and a baby. On arrival, the table was set with a baby chair and a colourful baby bowl with a spoon. That is special our friends thought because they won't get this treatment back in Melbourne.
The menu is quite extensive and traditional to Nyonya cuisine. We ordered Jiu Hu Char (julienned style cuttlefish type salad), a kerabu wing bean salad, otak-otak, Kari Kapitan, Sambal Goreng prawns, roti babi and nasi ulam with drinks. Total bill was $175 ringgits, which is reasonable priced for a nyonya food.
We were all very happy with the dishes we have chose. Packed with complex flavour and delicious. Our friends love food and have been traveling in Malaysia in the past 2 weeks and tried many different food. They said the food they had at Nyonya Breeze was delicious and they enjoyed themselves.
As for me, my partner and I both love the food as well. Unfortunately, the service is so-so and quite impersonal. And, the place lacks ambience and seem a bit tired. There are other tables and mostly family and looks like regular customers.

We ordered smaller portions of many dishes as a family member had returned from abroad and wanted to eat everything. The kerabu meehoon was ok. Not as flavourful as expected. Just spicy. The joohoo char was good, our favourite dish. The otak was ok. The telur belanda and ikan belanda gravy was good, making the dishes palatable. Tau yu bak was the kids' favourite. Generally the meal was satisfying but not excellent. The server was commendable for helping us ensure that there was no peanut or peanut oil in any dishes due to allergy. The one thing that marred our evening there was the flickering light of a bulb that was not working properly right above us. Requested for a change of table but not entertained.

Nyonya Breeze has moved to the Straits Quay Shopping Complex in Tanjong Tokong. A much better location - by the sea and looking out into the marina. Much better ambience too than the old place off Lorong Abu Siti. It's airy and spacious with decor that fits the local culture.
In my humble opinion this is the place to savior and enjoy nyonya food in Penang if not all of Northern Malaysia. Quality has been high and consistenty traditional each time I visited and ate at this restaurant. For the uninitiated nyonya food is the product of traditional malay/indonesian/chinese blend of cooking.
Service at this restaurant is acceptable - very responsive but need to be a little more organize. No biggie.
Cost wise - a good value , really good value

Nyonya Breeze in Straits Quay was highly recommended by the Rasa Sayang concierge and we were a bit apprehensive as we had not heard of this restaurant. Our apprehension disappeared when we arrived and were warmly welcomed and brought to our table - the restaurant was full with many locals and families, so it was very obvious that it is popular with the locals & serves good food from the constant stream of customers.
Being quite hungry, we started ordering quite a lot of dishes and the waitress had to caution us that perhaps we were ordering too much food for the 3 of us, so we scaled back.
The must-tries are their pork rendang, ayam kapitan and the nasi ulam, and their pulut hitam & pengat for dessert. The nutmeg juice helped to quench our thirst and ease the spiciness of the curries.
Delicious nyonya food served with friendly efficient service - we will definitely go back when we're next in Penang
