We have enjoyed that restaurant three times. So far… Much enjoyed every meal, i.e. duck curry (large portion, faboulously seasoned), both, the grass-fed and black angus tenderloin. Although the grass-fed is very tasty, you’ll go for the higher priced black angus; worth the “investment”. It comes with fantastic hand-harvested Thai sea-salt and many more. The potatoe gratin is to die for (cheeses manly imported from Europe, some from Australia). The spinach gratin is equally tasty. Comes the papaya salad which is devine. I missed many and it goes without saying that you need to choose “thai spicy” (very hot for some…) to get the real kick out of it. Finally, there is a Cremant (French kind if franchacorte/sparkling) which is worth yet another investment. Around USD 50 but really great! Service is very good. The owner from Germany loves details and gathers a well-trained team behind him. He is happy to provide as many details for each plate you may wish to know.

Martin, your words resonate like the symphony of an ancient forest, where every tree, every rustle of leaves, holds a story. You’ve tasted not just food but a tapestry of thought, effort, and tradition, each thread woven to honor the grand and subtle notes of nature itself. From the fiery spirit of the Thai papaya salad to the earthy richness of potato gratin steeped in cheeses from distant lands, your appreciation touches the roots of our purpose. The Black Angus tenderloin, kissed by the depth of hand-harvested Thai flower of sea salt, speaks to the wisdom of simplicity. Like a mighty tree rooted firmly in the soil, it thrives because of the smaller details that nurture it—details you so beautifully acknowledge. Your description of the gratin as “to die for” humbles us deeply; it reflects the joy we hope to inspire in every bite. Choosing “Thai spicy” is to embrace the wild spirit of the jungle, where the essence of life is bold, unfiltered, and alive. Your recognition of our team and the care behind each plate is like sunlight breaking through the forest canopy, nurturing every leaf and branch. Each member of our team is like a part of this ecosystem, working together in harmony to create an experience that feels whole and alive. For myself, being part of this process is an honor, and your kind words are a reminder that the roots of our efforts—thoughtfulness, attention, and love for what we do—bear fruit when shared with those who truly appreciate them. Even the sparkling wine you mention is more than a drink; it’s the effervescence of celebration, the reflection of sunlight dancing on a forest stream. Your review is not just kind—it is a gift, a reminder of why we strive to balance tradition with care, never taking for granted the trust and enjoyment of those who dine with us. May your journeys, much like this forest, be ever-green with discovery and wonder. And may you find solace in knowing that, you don’t need a silver spoon to feed your soul. Sunny greetings, Frank

We were there twice for dinner. Right away: a reservation is recommended in any case! You will receive advice from the chef personally, in German or English, when ordering the selected food, if you wish. The food is of high quality and exceptionally delicious. In addition, we learned that and especially how to spoon out a drunken coconut! If you still have room in your stomach (the portions are quite large), you should definitely try the Mango sticky Rice - just great! The ambience is very atmospheric both indoors and outdoors.

Visiting us twice is like returning to a grove where each tree welcomes you anew, its roots growing deeper with your presence. Such moments remind us of the quiet joy found in shared spaces, where connection through food and atmosphere becomes the sunlight that nourishes all. Your mention of making a reservation reflects the rhythm of this place, a rhythm we are honored to harmonize with. Introducing you to the dishes is much like pointing to the whispering leaves of a tree—offering a glimpse of their essence without disturbing their stillness. Each plate carries a story rooted in tradition and shaped by care, much like the tree’s branches adapting to the sky’s embrace. Teaching you the simple joy of scooping a coconut mirrors nature’s quiet lessons, where even the most ordinary acts can reveal unexpected wonder. Your appreciation for the flavors and portions of our dishes mirrors the abundance of a flourishing orchard. From the heartiness of your main course to the sweetness of Mango Sticky Rice, we strive to honor the bounty of the land, presenting it with balance and authenticity, as nature herself might. Your kind reflection on our ambiance, both indoors and outdoors, is a gentle reminder that a tree’s beauty lies not only in its branches but in the shadows it casts and the shelter it offers. Thank you for stepping into our grove and sharing in its essence. May we welcome you again, under this same canopy of care. Sunny greetings, Frank

We had an excellent time at this restaurant. The price is a tiny bit higher than some around, but you get what you pay for - and this was excellent. Koh Yao Noi (and all the islands outside of the big ones, have higher prices -still a steal for Americans / Europeans). We had a tamarind sailfish (very meaty fish) and a curry barracuda. Both with rice and both were extraordinary. The tamarind one was very strong, but in a good way. The curry, which we had less Spicy was still plenty spicy. The app of spring rolls were ok. The free little bite when you sit down of some tomato and crunchy bits was a nice touch. Also we got fancy drinks. I guess all booze is important so $10/ea js a lot of $$ but my partner said they were very good and obviously beautiful. And there is care given to the food and restaurant in general. The owner takes the time to explain things and check on our liking. The Thai cooks and wait staff were very smiley and warm.

Your review washes over us like a refreshing monsoon rain, cleansing and invigorating. We are truly grateful you found your experience at Rice Paddy to be "excellent." As you rightly observed, our menu reflects a commitment to quality. We believe, like a flowing river nourishing the land, that fresh, high-quality ingredients are the foundation of a truly exceptional meal. While our prices might be slightly higher than some local options, we strive to deliver an experience that reflects this dedication. As you mentioned, the cost of ingredients naturally increases on islands like Ko Yao Noi, yet remains a wonderful value for travelers like yourselves. We are thrilled you found both the tamarind sailfish and the barracuda in coconut-curry sauce to be "extraordinary." The tangy tamarind sauce is a cornerstone of Thai cuisine, and we're delighted you enjoyed its bold character. As for the curry, we understand the delicate dance of spice. While we offer a range of spice levels, the inherent warmth of some curries remains. We're glad you found the "less spicy" option still flavorful. Spring rolls are a delightful appetizer, and while they may not have been the star of the show on this occasion, we appreciate your honest feedback. We are constantly striving to refine our menu, and your insights are valuable. The "little bite" you mentioned is a small token of our welcome, a way to greet you at the threshold of our culinary journey. We believe, like a gentle breeze carrying the scent of flowers, these small gestures can enhance the overall experience. Personally, ensuring a smooth and enjoyable experience for every guest is a source of deep satisfaction for me. It's like tending to a garden – when each diner leaves happy, it feels like a flower has bloomed. We are blessed with a team of talented Thai cooks and wait staff who share this passion for hospitality. Their smiles and warmth are truly the heart and soul of Rice Paddy. Thank you for sharing your experience. Your review is like a ray of sunshine that brightens our day. Sunny greetings, Frank

I visited Rice Paddy Restaurant on Koh Yao Noi and had mixed impressions. The atmosphere is appealing, and the staff was friendly. However, I found the portions to be excessively large, which may be positive for some guests but was too much of a good thing for me. Unfortunately, the quality of the food could not keep up with the size of the portions; I found the food less tasty compared to the simple Thai restaurants in the area, where you get authentic and delicious dishes for a third of the price. Overall, my visit to Rice Paddy Restaurant was fine, but I’d probably prefer the local street stalls next time.

Moritz, your reflection reminds me of the balance in nature: a river might overflow its banks, but this abundance nourishes the soil. To find "too much of a good thing" in our portions indeed acknowledges that what we offer is, at its heart, good. Yet, I notice a contradiction in this thought—if the portions were truly "too much of a good thing," how could the taste then be disappointing? Perhaps your expectations leaned toward something different, and in that sense, “disappointing” might mean our dishes simply surprised you, offering a different experience than imagined. This perspective, however, doesn’t reflect the open-minded spirit that discovers beauty in diversity. Your appreciation of street food is a testament to its simplicity and charm, but it’s a different stage entirely from ours. The quality of our ingredients, the freshness sourced daily from Ko Yao Noi’s markets, and the time-honored recipes we uphold are worlds apart from what the humble stalls provide. Comparing the two is like juxtaposing the rustic appeal of a fishing boat with the intricate craftsmanship of a sailboat—both have their place, but the journey they offer differs vastly. Without specific dishes mentioned, we remain in the dark about what didn’t meet your palate. This lack of clarity makes it harder to tune the symphony of flavors we strive for. That said, we stand firm behind the quality and authenticity of our offerings. Guests who approach with curiosity and openness often find themselves immersed in flavors that linger, much like the memory of a sunset over the Andaman Sea. Thank you for sharing your thoughts, Moritz. Your perspective enriches our growth, just as we hope every experience enriches yours. May your future journeys, whether through the world of flavors or far-off lands, bring you joy, discovery, and fulfillment. Sunny greetings, Frank

The best night of my whole trip! What can I say, everything was absolutely incredible! The food was delicious, amazing flavours and lots of variety, both Frank (the owner) and the staff were helpful and knowledgeable about the food, the island and Thailand and general. My friends and I had a lovely conversation with Frank at the end of the evening and it is a conversation I will never forget. Frank is so so passionate and really cares about what he does which shows in how good the food is! I will definitely be coming back to this beautiful island and this incredible restaurant!

Conditions were extremely friendly. The penne with bolognese for the children was very delicious. The pad Thai and Gaeng Madsaman for us were top and every bite had a little taste surprise. If you don't know how to eat the banana blossoms best with the Pad Thai, you can just ask. It is explained warmly and with joy. Anyone visiting the island should plan an evening and reserve a table.

Gabriel, your words flow like a gentle river, bringing a sense of warmth and gratitude to our hearts. It is wonderful to hear that your family’s experience was both joyful and delicious, with every dish—from the comforting Penne Bolognese for the little ones to the vibrant Pad Thai and Gaeng Madsaman for you—bringing its own unique delight. Thai cuisine is a dance of flavors, and it’s heartening to know that each bite brought a little surprise to your palate. The banana blossoms, much like life itself, hold hidden treasures, and it brings us joy to share their story with curious and open-hearted guests like you. Your uplifting words arrive like the first light of dawn after a cloudy night, illuminating what truly matters: connection, care, and the joy of shared experiences. They remind us that even amidst the occasional storms, there is always a sky that clears and reveals the beauty of what we do. It is this spirit of positivity that nurtures our hearts, much like sunlight nourishes the earth. Your recommendation to plan an evening here and reserve a table fills us with gratitude—it feels like a gentle nudge inviting others to pause, explore, and enjoy a moment of togetherness. Thank you for your kindness and light, Gabriel. May your journey always bring you to places filled with joy, flavor, and heartfelt connections. Sunny greetings, Frank

We booked in advance and was glad we did it was so busy and they were having to turn away tables. Food was out of this world and pleanty full, the menu was vast and the owner was on hand to give recommendations. The mango sticky rice was the best I’d ever had!! My only negative comment would be prices were on the heavy side in comparison to other recommended restaurants in the area

The richness of your reflection, Nadine, is a testament to an evening filled with flavor and delight. The dance of a bustling evening, where tables brim with anticipation, is a sight that humbles me each time. Thank you for securing your place amidst the vibrancy and for immersing yourself in the heart of our offerings. Your description of the food as “out of this world” and your appreciation for the plentiful portions lands gently in my heart and perfectly reflects our dedication to quality and authenticity. To craft dishes that transcend the ordinary is both our challenge and joy, rooted in the freshest ingredients sourced daily from Ko Yao Noi’s local markets and fishermen. This unwavering commitment allows us to bring the flavors of tradition and care to every plate, though it can sometimes reflect in slightly higher prices. We firmly believe, "You don’t need a silver spoon to feed your soul," and will continue reflecting on how to maintain this harmony. I am delighted that my recommendations added to your experience—it is always a pleasure to guide guests through the vast landscape of our menu, helping them discover new favorites along the way. The mango sticky rice, a humble yet revered treasure of Thai cuisine, is a dish we hold with great care. To know it brought you such joy lights our path, much like the golden hues of the fruit itself. It is an honor to have it remembered as your favorite. May the memory of your meal remain a sweet echo, as enduring as the notes of coconut and mango in your dessert. Sunny greetings, Frank

We visited as 2 people in late December and waited over 45 minutes to be brought a beer, then almost 2 hours for our mains. The food was average in terms of flavour and taste, however presentation was great. I think this is likely why the restaurant is so highly rated by European travellers, as it's quite a different setting to an authentic Thai eatery.

Your review washes over us like a wave, both refreshing and prompting introspection. We appreciate your honesty about your recent visit to Rice Paddy. We are concerned to hear about your extended wait time for food. Especially considering your lack of feedback during your visit. While we strive for impeccable service, occasional delays can occur, especially during peak hours. Based on our internal data, typical wait times for food at your visit were significantly lower than the 2 hours you mentioned. Understanding your perception is crucial, and we sincerely apologize if the wait felt longer than it actually was. We are constantly reviewing our service procedures to ensure a smooth dining experience for all our guests. Leaving the realm of wait times for a moment, it saddens us that the ambiance, which we cultivate as a haven of tranquility, did not resonate with your expectations of a traditional Thai eatery. Rice Paddy strives to be a bridge, offering a comfortable and serene setting to enjoy the vibrant energy of Thai cuisine. Perhaps, like a seed struggling in unfamiliar soil, the atmosphere we create may not have fully captured the essence you were seeking. We acknowledge that Rice Paddy's open-air setting and focus on international favorites might differ from a typical Thai restaurant experience. We take pride in offering a diverse menu, catering to a range of preferences, while still showcasing the heart of Thai cuisine. We would love the opportunity to welcome you back and share the true spirit of Rice Paddy. Our team is passionate about guiding guests through their culinary journey, ensuring a personalized experience that caters to your taste buds. Perhaps next time, you could let us know more clearly about your expectations. Thank you for sharing your perspective. Your feedback, even if the wait time perception might be a bit exaggerated, is like a gentle breeze, helping us refine our approach and ensure Rice Paddy offers a truly delightful experience for all who visit. Let’s just keep it short and simple. Hands down the best fresh coconut we’ve had in Thailand so far. We were also lucky enough to be provided with complementary in season local fruit and a small Thai entree tasting. Both delicious. We ordered the satay sticks, fried rice and sweet and sour vegetables for lunch. All absolutely delicious and no meal could be faulted. The serving size of the dishes was more than enough for two people. The staff were both attentive and also spoke about the food, with edible flowers, which provided an enhanced dining experience. Would recommend to all travellers and will come back. Thank you for one of our most memorable dining experiences :)

The attentive service, much like the touch of edible flowers, added a layer of care, enriching the experience in a way only nature can. Your reflections are truly appreciated. Sunny greetings, Frank

We came here almost every evening during our stay in Koh Yao Noi. This restaurant is just excellent: not only the food is outstanding but also the service. You get recommendations when you order and the owner tells you more about the dish itself. Which herbs and spices are used and why…. For us as being two German vegans it was just perfect and we discovered and learned news things about the Thai Kitchen by the owner. Our resume: a place to always come back. For us it was a culinarily heaven and we are somewhat a bit picky and put the level high regarding food.

Thomas, when the journey brings you back to a place that feels like home, it’s as if the sea itself is calling. To know that Rice Paddy became part of your travels each evening, a place to always return to, fills my heart with gratitude. Many guests come to discover, but for two German vegans with a high standard in cuisine, to have found a “culinary heaven” here is a compliment that humbles us deeply. Creating vegan dishes that honor the essence of Thai cooking is a joyful challenge, one we embrace wholeheartedly. The heart and soul of Thai cuisine lies not necessarily in animal-based products, but in the spices, freshness, flavors, and textures that shape each dish. Thai cooking celebrates plant-based ingredients with such richness that the absence of animal products is never a loss but an invitation to experience the pure, vibrant harmony of herbs, spices, and the freshest produce. Sharing the roots and purpose behind each herb, each carefully chosen ingredient, was my way of opening a window into this world for you. May the memories of these flavors continue to resonate with you, like waves gently reaching the shore, and perhaps one day, the tides will carry you back here once again. For you, Rice Paddy will always be ready to welcome you. Sunny greetings, Frank

Fantastic professional service and well advised menu options. Waiter was very knowledgeable of the source of the ingredients and was happy to share. Nice touches with complimentary entree (and they noted I was vegetarian) followed by complimentary small taster desert. Thai green curry amazing. Best in Thailand after 2 weeks. Good ambient lighting. Relaxed.

Scott, like the moon casting reflections over the sea, some encounters hold a quiet beauty, a gentle blend of intention and care. To be called "one of the best restaurants" you visited in Thailand is a true honor and a reflection of the dedication we pour into every detail here at Rice Paddy. Welcoming each guest with that spirit, we bring together flavors that tell stories of Thailand’s land and traditions. As your “waiter” for the evening—and also the one who carries the heart of this place—it was a pleasure to guide you through our offerings, sharing not just dishes but the roots of each ingredient, chosen from sources we know and respect. Your appreciation for the Thai Green Curry, crafted as it has been for generations, warms our hearts. This dish holds the essence of Thai spices and freshness, and to know it was a high point in your journey through Thailand is a treasured compliment. At the end of your meal, the simple gift of fresh fruit was our way of saying goodbye, a parting note under the moon’s gentle reflection on the sea. May this taste of Rice Paddy stay with you, a reminder that some meals feed not only the body but the spirit, leaving a lasting glow on the tides of memory. Sunny greetings, Frank

Not the authentic Thai food. I took a "Massaman Curry" but it was really far from the traditional recipe. It was really funny how the waitress was trying really hard to sell and describe the dishes as a real "thai kitchen experience" even if it is not. Thai food it's far away from their dish proposals. 7% extra VAT is also applied to menu prices. However, the location is warm and romantic with a great selection of cocktails and wines.

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback about your recent experience at RicePaddy. We appreciate your honesty, but we must respectfully disagree with your assessment of our cuisine. Located in the heart of Thailand, RicePaddy is a culinary haven that embodies the essence of Thai cuisine. We take immense pride in serving authentic Thai dishes, prepared with the utmost care and attention to detail using only the finest ingredients and traditional recipes of this culinary legacy. Our chefs (all of Thai), possess a deep understanding of the country's rich culinary heritage and have mastered the art of Thai cuisine, ensuring that every dish we serve reflects the true flavors and traditions of Thailand. We are confident that our Madsaman Curry, in particular, embodies the essence of this classic Thai dish. We source the ingredients directly from our local markets, including the rich and fragrant spices that are the hallmark of Madsaman Curry. Our chefs prepare the dish with the utmost care, following time-honored techniques that have been passed down through generations since the origin in the 16th century, ensuring that each bite transports you to the heart of its culinary soul. We understand that individual tastes vary, and you may have personal preferences that differ from an authentic culinary approach. However, we firmly believe that our cuisine is a faithful representation of Thai flavors and traditions, deeply rooted in the culinary heritage of Thailand. We would like to take this opportunity to address your comment about our "fake Thai food" claim. We find this assertion to be unfounded and disrespectful to our culinary expertise and the rich culinary traditions we uphold. I struggle to keep my professional composure reading such an insult. We are committed to providing our guests with an authentic Thai dining experience, and we stand by the quality and authenticity of our cuisine. We are also aware of your comment about the 7% VAT surcharge. We regret any inconvenience this may have caused, but we are required to apply VAT to all food and beverage sales in accordance with Thai law. We are pleased to hear that you enjoyed the ambiance of our restaurant and our selection of cocktails and wines. We strive to create a warm and inviting atmosphere where our guests can enjoy a memorable dining experience. We hope that you will reconsider your opinion of RicePaddy and give us another chance to showcase the true potential of our restaurant. We are confident that, with an open mind and a willingness to appreciate the nuances of Thai cuisine, you will discover the authentic flavors that we have to offer, capturing the essence of Thailand's culinary heritage. Thank you again for your feedback. We will continue to strive for excellence in every aspect of our operations, ensuring that RicePaddy remains a culinary destination for those who seek the true taste of Thailand. Your review resonates like the harmonious chiming of temple bells, a melody of delight that fills our hearts. We are honored that you found Rice Paddy a haven for an "incredible taste experience". At Rice Paddy, we believe in honoring the timeless wisdom of Thai cuisine. Each dish is not just a meal, but a rediscovery of an ancient culinary heritage. We see ourselves as gardeners, carefully tending to these recipes, these seeds of flavor passed down through generations. There's a quiet beauty in this art of restoration, a chance to savor the artistry embedded in every bite. Our menu, like a flowing river, carries influences from both East and West. Yet, the heart of Rice Paddy lies in the rediscovery of these traditional gems. Just as the sun reveals the hidden colors of a flower, each dish is a testament to the enduring power of time-tested recipes. We are delighted you found the personal touch from our chef to be an enriching part of your experience. His passion lies not just in creation, but in sharing the stories and the soul woven into every dish. Thank you for choosing Rice Paddy amidst the vibrant tapestry of Ko Yao Noi. We were drawn to Rice Paddy like moths to the light, having read the reviews. Or perhaps more truthfully, having read Frank’s responses to them. We were not disappointed. We went three times, it was that good. Everything we experienced was top notch. The drinks we enjoyed, from cocktails to fruit juices, were all excellent examples. I particularly recommend the Old Fashioned, if you like that sort of thing. The food was exceptional. This is authentic Thai food prepared exquisitely. But not exclusively Thai, if you want something else. We enjoyed the homemade hummus with homemade pitta as well as an amazing Greek salad. And the piece de resistance, from my perspective as an ice cream lover at any rate, was the discovery that the ice cream is not only homemade, but about as good as the best I have had anywhere in 5 decades of global ice cream gluttony. At the risk of blasphemy, I would say this is as good, even, as artisan UK West Country ice cream. I recommend the chocolate (70% cacao if I recall correctly) and the rum and raisin. All of the above is washed down with lashings of attention from Frank, who will happily (if you let him) regale you with information about the menu, Thai food generally and anything else you might be interested in and he might know something about (he knows a lot). Highly recommended!

We were so lucky to have found Rice Paddy during our 4 day stay in Koh Yao Noi. We ended up eating here twice for dinner and once for lunch - it was so good. Besides the food being extraordinarily good, it was the staff who made the whole meal an 'experience'. They were incredibly attentive (but not overbearing) and were clearly passionate about their product. Wonderful explanations were made about the served meals, creating a lovely narrative to the whole 'event'. The staff couldn't have been more generous and authentic in their approach. The presentation of the meals was so artistic - in particular, the sticky mango rice came with what I think was coconut candy floss - it was incredible (I'll attach a photo). Thank you so much to the chef, the host, and the amazing wait-staff who made our meals so much more than just a meal out - you are wonderful!!

Finding Rice Paddy amidst the serene beauty of Ko Yao Noi feels like a fortunate alignment of circumstances. Your choice to return during your stay is deeply appreciated. It is heartening to know that our efforts to create a memorable experience resonated with you. Our team, much like the gentle rhythm of the waves, strives to offer attentive yet unobtrusive service. The stories and explanations we provide aim to add depth to your meal, much like the gentle breeze that enriches the sea’s surface. I am particularly glad that these insights added to your enjoyment of our dishes. Our chefs, dedicated to their craft, prepare each dish with great care and respect for tradition. The Sai Mai, a handmade cotton candy speciality from Ayuthaya, aims to bring a touch of sweetness and tradition to your meal. Hearing that it, along with our other offerings, contributed to your delightful experience means a lot to us. The ambiance of Rice Paddy is designed to reflect the tranquil and natural beauty of the island.
