Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

What a gem! just had two nights here, the host Helen and staff were just great. The chef Richard - bloody brilliant. The food was so good we didn't want to go anywhere else. The bedrooms are are basic, but cosy and clean. Cant wait...to go back. Thank you for a lovely stay. Just what the doctor ordered. A cosy, quiet get away with lovely food and drink and rest.More

Well where can I start with the Cottage of Content. Myself and some friends were recently celebrating our birthdays and we called Richard and Helen with a very unreasonable request of accommodating 35 guests for lunch in just a few weeks’ time. To my delight,...they were more than happy to have us visit and boy am I glad we did. Upon arrival we were welcomed with the sweet aromas of freshly cooked food and some mouthwatering real ales on tap. And not to mention the resident dog who was always there to offer a friendly face around the place. The quality of the food was superb, a few of my friends really did have the munchies so you can imagine their delight when four delicious burgers arrived to quench their hunger straight away. I also can’t not mention the cheese board which was a fantastic way to end the meal. While Richard was in the kitchen skating away, Helen was entertaining the whole group and creating an atmosphere I can only describe as absolutely electric. The ladies serving us our food and drinks were so kind and no job was either too small or too large. There was also a lovely horse in the field opposite which really gave the place an authentic country field. Top marks for that. A huge thanks from us and we simply cannot wait to visit next time! Absolutely lovely family run pub. Great food, well kept ale and fab atmosphere. We just stayed next door and went in a few times for drinks and dinner, would especially recommend their roast dinner on a Sunday. And the pub dog needs a special shout...out!! She is so cute !More

We have been regular guests at this iconic Herefordshire pub but, for various reasons, this was our first visit for more than four years. Would it be as welcoming as we remembered? Would the food be as good? Would the ambiance have suffered from the...impact of COVID? From the moment we walked in, it was obvious we need not have worried. A friendly welcome and then an excellent early dinner - a spicy cauliflower pie and a vegan burger followed by one of the best crumbles I have ever had. After a refreshing night's sleep a delicious breakfast and the scene was set for the rest of our too-short stay. Helen and Richard are the perfect hosts and their young staff efficient and friendly. The Cottage makes no secret of being a dog-friendly pub. Some people may not be so keen on eating in a space shared with pets and working dogs - worry not, just ask to eat in the adjacent dining room.More

Travelled from Solihull to meet up with relatives from South Wales. Great place though if you don't like narrow country roads to get to it this is maybe not the place for you. We had no real worries though a few close shaves, locals I...guess, after leaving the A49 made us happy to arrive safely. Fascinating place. Made very welcome. Excellent food quality and variety for Sunday lunch and friendly efficient service. Very reasonable prices. if it was local to where we live we would visit regularly.More

We were passing through Holme Lacey saw the sign and rang to book for the same evening. It took a long time to answer however a very nice lady took the booking for us. We turned up at the pub at the agreed time and...there appeared to be no staff at the bar. After about three or four minutes a member of staff appeared no acknowledgment at all to me waiting and grumpily served another group who had been waiting. At no time was I acknowledged, no I will be with you, nothing. So after 10 minutes we left very disappointed and if this was a typical reception then I would avoid this establishment at all costs. Was it busy no and perhaps there is a reasonMore

We drove here from little tarrington ... lovely drive through beautiful countryside. Arrived and a nice rustic pub. Food for us was DISAPPOINTING .. the quantity was poor especially on my husbands dinner who had pork 3 ways. His pork was 1/2 centimetres thick and...very small , one sausage and 1 thin slice of black pudding for £20 !! I'm afraid not acceptable. We did mention it to staff and the ethos was .. mains are small in the hope you will order a dessert. But our psychology is a small main course equals a small dessert which we refused to have. I had fillet of fish, small again but nicely cooked. I see they had a best award in 2017 ... I would not travel far to revisit.. on arrival with it bring so quaint... I thought it would be a good gift to give my son in law for a bday get away ... but have decided against it. So sorry to say this xMore

We were staying in a local Air Bnb and were highly recommended to come here (both by previous Air Bnb reviews and the hosts themselves.) Seeing as we were not even a 30 second walk away we managed to book a table (thank you for...squeezing us in, although we were the first guests for about 30 minutes when we arrived at 6pm). Friendly welcome, decent selection of beers on pump (was a bit warm when it arrived but ? if it was meant to be, some beers don’t agree being served cold). Absolutely a hidden gem in terms of the food and presentation, if I was really picky I would say the portion sizes were a tad small for what we ordered but for another it’s perfect, and the crumble was a perfect size. Would recommend again (but pre book as far ahead as you can!)More

At short notice we had a treat of a stay at this lovely country pub. The staff, the food, our room - all were really professional and brilliant, we couldn’t fault it! Although relatively local, we’d never been before, and we will definitely be returning,...please everyone visit, and make sure this pub survives in these difficult times, it’s just too valuable and good to lose.More
