Excellent hosts and excellent food

A very welcome when we arrived, seated at a table outside overlooking the Old Venetian Fortress. Menu is plentiful, with a varied salad selection, lots of cheese and vegetarian options too. Meat dishes available and a few fish. We picked the alvi bread, sweet salad (feta, honey, walnuts etc), oven backed feta with sesame and honey, baked aubergine, chicken meatballs and squid and garlic. All this with a bottle of water and a glass of house white was £40 in total!! Food was incredible, salad was to die for, as was the feta. Squid was plentiful and very delicious too, heck it all was! The waiter was very polite and helpful when we needed help deciding on the salad choice. Thank you so much for a lovely first evening in Corfu, we will definitely be back!!

Perfect little restaurant near the airport.

This perfect little restaurant was a great way to kill time before our flight. Located only 0.5km from the airport we were able to walk off our dinner afterwards. The food, service and wine was impeccable! The head waiter Ilias was excellent and very helpful with suggesting which food he thought we’d like best. Would highly recommend to anyone and will definitely be returning. Not only the food was good but the outdoor seating area was very atheistic being in the trees with a sea view.

Very expensive - beware when the waiter offers to choose for you.

We went out of our way to find a restaurant where locals - and not just tourists like to eat. Whilst the terrace of Avli has a lovely (if not distant) view of the Fort across the bay - it is in a vey unattractive area. It is also quite a walk from the Old Town. The very jolly waiter just asked us if we wanted meat or fish and said he would just bring us a selection....mistake! He racked us up a bill of 170euros between 4 people (one was driving) We enjoyed the meal and our company so we didn't complain. Make your own choices and keep a lid on it - beware!

Waiters rip off and take advantage of foreigners

Excellent food, but if you want fresh seafood beware. The waiter quoted us 120 euros per kilo for “fresh” shrimp and 80 euros per kilo of fish. This is more than double the price of any other restaurant in the area and is different than the price quoted in the menu. He also did not disclose that the seafood in the menu is frozen, and if you don’t mention it they will provide you with the “fresh” seafood which is off the menu and more than double the price.

Quality food at a fair price

My wife and I chose this restaurant because it was fairly close to our hotel in Kanoni and glad we did. Meals are served meze style, but the dishes are larger so suggest you only need 4 dishes. Meatballs in ouzo and tomato delicious, grilled prawns large and tasty. Also had sliced mushrooms in a cream sauce, and a big bruchetta. All were lovely and a reasonable price. Friendly service and reasonable prices at average price around 8€ per dish. Litre carafe of house wine good value too, not Chablis, but quite quaffable. Thoroughly enjoyed our meal here and we will return. No hesitation to recommend for a nice meal away from tourist area Eddie and Christina McAlpine

Lovely food but don’t go off menu

The food was very nice at this restaurant, the menu pricing seemed reasonable and however the waiter encouraged us to try many items not described on the menu. It didn’t cross our mind it would be significantly more in price (were talking 3 times the value of any other restaurant in Corfu town for taverna style food). Waiter wasn’t forthcoming on the market price of the fish. Shady behaviour and sadly for him we would have returned a few times more during our stay had he been fair. Also the many cats hovering are unpleasant.

Perfect spot before flight home

Found this place on google for a last minute lunch for 8 people, before our flight home (10min walk to airport). Staff were brilliant, food was delicious and good portions. The waiter taught us how to cut a sea bass (he saw the look on my face when I realised it wasn’t a fillet of sea bass). Decided we didn’t want dessert but they brought out ice cream and a traditional cake on the house anyway. Nice outdoor seating with fans to keep cool.

Extremely disappointing - terrible service

Me and my partner decided to visit this restaurant yesterday evening after seeing good reviews, this was our first trip into corfu town. When we arrived we were told we could have the table for 1 hour 30 which was no problem as we had not booked. We were sat down and left with the menu but not offered any drinks. After around 20 minutes we had decided what we wanted to eat and drink and we’re trying to catch the attention of around 5 staff male staff members who were all just stood at the end of the restaurant doing absolutely nothing but staring into space. There were only two other tables in the whole restaurant so I couldn’t understand what was going on. My partner waved to a male member of staff who acknowledged that we were ready but still then continued to stand in the same spot doing absolutely nothing. Around 5 minutes later a car pulled up with around 6 people in who were all greeted with hand shakes by this same member of staff, they were sat down and given drinks - still before we even had our drinks order taken! After another 5 minutes the same member of staff then came over and asked “ready” to which we responded “yes” he then walked away and went inside the restaurant, came back out with 6 wine glasses and walked over to the same table, at this point I said to my partner let’s go, we had been there 35 minutes and not even had a drink order taken, yet another table arrived after and we’re greeted and took priority over us. We then got up and walked out, and went and ate at a restaurant next door who were more than happy for our custom. The absolute ignorance and rudeness of the staff in this restaurant is unbelievable, please do not waste your time going here or give your custom to these people.

Beware the pressure sell

A 12 person family get together at this delightful restaurant was somewhat soured after the staff realised that we were not going to be big spenders. Initially really friendly, fun and helpful, the atmosphere changed when we asked to drink the house wine (as advertised on the menu) rather than choose from the wine menu. They literally refused to let us order this (“you won’t like that, it’s awful”) and brought over the “big guns” of the head waiter, who insisted on us buying a bottle at €32. (Nice wine, but with 12 of us, we wanted the house wine at €6.50 a time). We drank the good stuff and reverted to the house wine, which was actually better than they had less us to believe. The food itself (which was what we had come for) was excellent and fairly priced, but the magic had gone and an atmosphere stayed with us for the rest of the evening, with the distinct (and deliberately conveyed) feeling that we had been relegated to the status of second class diners. Message to the team at Avli: let your customers decide what they want - we could have been really good advocates, but, even after excellent food (we still spent over €30 a head), you left us feeling unhappier than when we walked in.

Terrible do not go here !

This place is just awful I cannot understand the good reviews. Me and my sister visited this place for dinner one night we had made a booking and upon arriving no one was there to seat us. All the staff were standing at the other end of the restaurant and they had noticed us waiting to be seated but no one came. We waited a long time until the taxi driver who dropped us came to ask why we were still waiting and if something is wrong. Only after the taxi driver went to speak to the staff did someone slowly come over to seat us. A group of people arrived just after us and were seated immediately and were given water and the menus. We were still sat at the table with nothing. Also the table was dirty there were bugs crawling on it. I would not recommend a very dirty place with horrible staff that ruin the whole evening for you! We went to Corfu sailing club after and it was absolutely amazing and a completely different experience !

The most delicious food, the best service you could ever wish for and the most fantastic atmosphere. Elias is the best host and helped us choose the most exquisite meal. All experienced diners in our group and all agreed his service / the food far surpassed even the best Michelin restaurants in London! Will be visiting again before our trip is over! Worst experience in Corfu

We had very high hopes because of the good reviews, but sadly this restaurant was such a dissapointmet. Some kind of tourist scam- with high prices and small portions (5 schrimps in sauce for 13.5€). Also there were no sides for the main course, which was kind of odd. The waiter didn’t offer any and you couldn’t find them in menu as well. This restaurant ruined our last evening in Corfu! You can definitely find a better place where to eat!

A real gem of a place

Just finished a third visit here with a family, the recurring visits already say a lot. Here are the details: Location: nice open sitting, quiet, under lovely trees a bit off the beaten track, but still pretty central Service: extremely professional and friendly, very fast compared to the majority of greek restaurants. Food: Simply fantastic. The menu is not very big and this is good. Original, nice dishes, no souvlaki and no giros here, but original and very tasty local food interpretations. I have celiac, so staying away from gluten is always on my mind - the knowledge and the awareness of the staff is incredible. To the point that the cutlery for me was served separately as the cutlery is normally served with a lovely local bread. Price: slightly below average Bottom line - superb value for money. Well worth a visit, even if not on your way.

We visit Avli for second summer, this season the plates seems to be updated.Last summer I was upset mainly with their attitute.We had mushrooms with garlic which were delicious,fries with cheese on top,"tigania" with sausages nice but the taste of wine a little bit strong,-less would be an option..-, talagani with koum kouat and mussels. All the plates were descent and normal portions.One minus, that the main courses had no garniture, they didn't refer it at first place, we just asked. A nice touch offered as a digestif, the liquer of piperoriza but too sweet for me. Prices were increased,aprox.60 euros for the above, for 2 people, including a sparkling water and a house wine. Nick a young guy very kind and talkative was willing to service you and seems to enjoy what he is doing. A piece of advice...in such a nice place, like Gyalos, try to keep your own identity as a nice taverna and the prices low... don't try to be an uplevel Restaurant, like some others at the same place because you will loose clientele. Leave it to them, they know "how". Too much expensive for nothing special!
