Our family of 8 stayed at the old pound inn as a stop over on our way to Cornwall at the end of July we had 3 rooms between us that all were lovely, beds were comfortable. The pub had a lovely country feel to it we happily sat down most of the night and enjoyed a lovely meal, they have a great variety of ice cream which was lovely, they are also very dog friendly we had two dogs which also enjoyed their stay, Locals are all very friendly and welcoming. The breakfast in the morning was beautifully set out and cooked lovely, we had two other members of the family passing by on their way that morning and they Lady was very welcoming and allowed them to have breakfast as well even though they didn’t stay. Also we loved the great selection off books the bar has to offer which the proceeds go to charity. All in all o would happily stay their again 5* from us 👍🏻

Looking for somewhere to have a Sunday dinner and found this little Gem on our travels around. Nicely situated on a corner we was able to sit outside In the beer garden. Once seated we was asked what we required it was a bit late in the afternoon but still able to have a traditional English Sunday dinner with all the trimmings, we had a choice of three meats and small or large, had the large turkey dinner and it was huge. We also had a decent drink can't remember the name I think it was just called Pils but it was nice. They also do a steak night on Wednesday. Delightful place

We had an early supper here. Our daughter was well catered for, both with pencils and paper and a kids menu which had a good selection. Our food was hot, tasty and there was a fairly varied menu, nothing high cuisine but enough for all tastes. The staff were all friendly and we had a very pleasant meal.

Been here a couple times previously and had a pleasant experience hence why the star review isn’t lower but on this occasion it was quite a poor experience. Took my partner for valentines dinner and we ordered of the valentines special set menu which was 3 courses for £25 with some good options to choose from. I had onion rings for a starter, they all had a very very thin coating on, some only half battered and this was the same when they came with my steak. I ordered mine medium rare, my partner medium. After cutting into them it turned out we had been given each other’s so we had to swap them, probably an honest mistake but nonetheless not ideal. They weren’t very hot either, warm at best. We also both chose the chocolate and caramel cake for dessert and asked for no raspberries with mine. When it came out it came with them, again not a massive issue but if I were to have an allergy it would’ve been more of a problem. Once they had come out a group of 4 sat behind us with 2 dogs, in the eating area. I can appreciate a dog friendly pub/restaurant but not where I’m eating, let alone barking dogs when I want a peaceful dinner with my partner. If it wasn’t for the fact we were on to dessert we would left at that point after the problems which had preceded. Bit of a shame to the evening because the past couple times have been fine and waitresses all friendly.

Hello, Thank you for visiting us again and for taking the time to write a review. I’m sorry that your experience was less than exceptional as we strive to provide good quality hearty pub food on all occasions. Our steaks are rested so they may not always be piping hot dependant on how long the steak has tested for. We allow dogs in the snug but not in the restaurant, I believe you were in the snug - my apologies if this wasn’t made clear. As the access to the garden is through the snug, we allow dogs there too. I do hope you visit us again soon, as you said your past visits were acceptable. Once again, apologies for the issues you encountered. Warmest regards, Lea

Arrived and placed an order for 2 drinks which both arrived incorrect , not the best of starts . Starters were disappointing duck spring rolls ( available from icelands for a £1) and a cheap Camembert out of the microwave with a bit of pickle . No salad garnish but a cheap bit of sliced bread cut in half . The main of Morrocan tagine was COLD even though it had been in a microwave and pressed into a dish so it came out in a solid lump . Not sure if it had any meat in it or not but the frozen carrots and peas did not help . This was returned to the kitchen . What made me laugh was when I was informed I wouldn’t have to pay fort the tagine 😂The fish and chips we were served were just passable .

Thank you for taking the time to write a review. Our spring rolls are not from ‘Iceland’ but good advertising for them! The tagline is vegetarian, as stated on the menu so I would be VERY surprised if you found meat in there.. Our carrots are prepared on site and bought fresh - not frozen, although our peas ARE bought in fresh frozen. The Camembert is oven baked and it doesn’t mention ‘salad’ on the menu. We do sell side salads if that is what you would like. Not sure what is funny about getting a discount but…as you didn’t enjoy your chosen meal, I feel it was appropriate. I hope you get the possibility of trying us again to prove your experience is not the norm. Not sure which day you visited so I cannot comment on why the drinks we not correct - no-one has mentioned it to me (or the returned tagline). Please feel free to contact me directly to ensure your next visit is a better experience. Warmest regards, Lea

We were the only ones eating and still waited an hour for our meals. Steak and ale pie meat was burnt and dry, pasta and meat ball the meat ball were dry and the tomato sauce was watery. Chicken burger was dry and the fresh tomato was bad. Will not be returning..

Called in for a meal, very nice and clean inside "good start ". The food however was absolutely terrific, proper good tasty fare, soup, steak and desert, couldn't fault a thing, if you aspire to your food looking like a piece of fine art, great but don't eat here, if on the other hand you want to be fed ,and enjoy being fed with good quality tasty food and can leave afterwards without feeling you've just been mugged, this is the very place to be. Don't miss it . And as an extra bonus, the staff were just as lovely 😍

We were on our way to Monkton Elms restaurant, for a roastie, but decided to try the pub. Our friends tried it and said it was good. We had a table, ordered our drinks, and our roasts. Halfway through our foods, I realised we didn't have roast spuds? When we finished, I mentioned to the waitress about it, she thought it strange we didn't have our roast spuds? She went off and came back, obviously chat to the chef? She said we should have had our spuds. Besides missing our spuds, fresh veg of peas and carrots were cooked right, not over done. My nut roast was ok, a little soggy in gravy. I didn't like cauliflower cheese with me roasts, cos I'm dairy intolerance. Hubby's roasts was nice, except he said the plate should have been hot, and not a cold plate on a hot dinner. We had bread and butter with custard, which was nice, but it was on an oblong dish, rather than a bowl, which is easier to spoon the puddings out. I thought we could have had a bit of money off for our roasts, as we didn't get our spuds? Apart from the above, it was a friendly pub and staff. Lovely to eat a meal without music blaring out which we hate!

Hi Soria C Thank you for visiting us and for taking the time to write a review. Please mention any intolerances on your next visit so that we can accommodate or advise accordingly. There is a note on the menu and a sign on the wall mentioning this, as all the menu items are made in house, we can ensure that everyone's needs are met. Such a shame that you didn't mention the potatoes on the waitresses check back as we could have rectified this for you. My apologies this was not rectified. Our plates are usually hot, well warm at least, I'm sorry this wasn't the case for you. I hope we have the pleasure of welcoming you both in the future to prove this is not a typical visit. Warmest regards, Lea

Went for a Sunday roast based on the glowing reviews, shocked to find some mediocre beef paired with poorly cooked frozen vegetables. Also no where near enough gravy on the dinner. Lastly the staff were lovely, although the locals not so much

Hi Relax12396190237, Thank you for visiting us and giving us a try! Book at last minute forgetting Glastonbury Festival was on. Arrived at just before 5pm on very hot sunny day and car park was full. Did a brief ride around for off road parking but to no avail. Return to Pub hoping someone may have just left. We saw a lady come over hoping she was about to leave. Turned out she was the landlady and told us to park behind other cars as she knew who they were and when they were leaving. Went into Pub and it was apparent it is a “Local” with people at the bar and families in dining areas. Met by a very pleasant man at the bar who registered us for our room then showed us to our room. We had selected the smaller room rather than the dearer one and was very functional with air conditioning as well. The en-suites had recently been upgraded and was very plush. We freshened up then went for an evening meal at this pub. All the staff were very friendly and working hard as it’s was busy. Food was good as was the beer (CAMRA pub). We retired to our room where we found that road was a little noisy due to motorcycles but as soon as it was dark it became very quiet. Breakfast next morning appeared to freshly cooked to order along with choice of cereals and toast. Man at bar previous evening (still as cheerful) was same man doing breakfast. Enjoyed the visit and would stay there in preference to original choices which were more expensive due to Festival.

A group of 3 adults were travelling from Hampshire to a funeral near Bridgewater. We called in here for some lunch en-route and despite there being a large pre-booked group of walkers occupying the restaurant, the landlady greeted us cheerfully and ensured we all had a rapidly prepared lunch of quality, with a good choice of drinks available. We continued on our way fortified and arrived in good time for the funeral.

Came in earlier this month. Told us where our table was and had to wait for drinks order to be taken. Then came back and ordered food. We ordered a small turkey and a large beef. When they finally came they gave us a large turkey and a small beef. The gravy was watery, roast potatoes were barely cooked and dry. Beef was very peppery. Parsnips were not cooked properly. Swede mash was kind of spicy, Yorkshire pudding were hard. Honestly was not impressed. Food was expensive. The owner seemed rude in the way she spoke to her staff. I will say that the other members of staff seemed ok and polite. I did tell the staff that they messed the order up and they offered to sort it but by this time we had already eaten most of it as the meat was hidden underneath so didn't notice at first. Won't be coming again.

We were visiting Somerset for a couple of days after Christmas 19 and came across the Old Pound Inn as somewhere at a reasonable cost with good reviews in the area we wanted to visit. Glad we booked. Very welcoming and friendly. Nicely decorated room and well designed bathroom. Under new ownership for the last 2-3 years and slowly updating the property but keeping sympathetic to it's age, being 16thC. Excellent breakfast and evening meal. Generous portions, well cooked and presented. Would stay again when in the area.

Had our first pub lunch in the garden here since the easing of lockdown restrictions. The service was friendly and efficient. The food was excellent: succulent cod in light crispy batter and home made tartare sauce, followed by gelato in a wide choice of flavours. I recommend the hazelnut and blackberry crumble flavours! We will be back.
