Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Stopped here for lunch after a gruelling cliff walk which left us in doubt we could make it back to our car. During our excellent meal we asked if there was a bus route nearby. No such luck! A staff member immediately offered to drive...us at the end of his shift but the owner went one better and drove us back as soon as we liked. Nice people, nice premises, nice food (esp. cakes), nice location. What's not to like!More

This is a real jem of a restaurant tucked down in the cliffs. The ambiance at night is magical with all the beautiful lights, soft white seat cushions, and warm wooden furnishings. But the real highlight is the food which is some of the best...I have had on the Island. Last night, Chef Jay treated us to an amazing Prawn starter and gorgeous burrata and butternut salad - just perfect for two friends wanting to enjoy an evening catching up. Cam, our waiter, was very attentive and made sure we had everything we needed to enjoy our evening there. I will definitely be a repeat customer - both for dinner and lunch.More

Cafe by day and very very special restaurant for foodies by night! I had the most amazing ceviche last night followed by seriously delicious lamb. Karen had a lobster thermidor that would put Maine to shame and the place was charming. Chef Jay came and...introduced the dishes personally and he obvs knows his stuff. His Michelin star experience shone through and we were really made to feel special. Huge congrats to the young and enthusiastic team lead by a chef I think is destined legend status on island. Don’t hesitate to test it. Quality doesn’t come cheap but to my mind this is surprisingly good value for a rising star. One to be encouraged.More

After we sat down, we ordered a "bowl" of "marinated olives" It was £6.00, which seems like a lot for olives, but I assumed it would be NICE olives....big ones with herbs on them....'that sort of thing. What came out was laughable, a small dish...with the bog-standard black olives you get in a jar for £1 or £2. At £6 these few olives were a genuine slap in the face...just as a matter of principal. We ordered a couple of glasses of wine. "Medium or Large?" was the question. When the "Large" wine came out, it was tiny......and "small" would have been an apt name. For cheap, house wine, how much are they saving, 20p or so, by giving you this insulting little glass (at an extortionate price). Same with beer, it was not a full-sized pint glass. Again....you had the sense of a cunning owner looking for corners to cut to screw the mug punters at every turn. The food.....perfectly acceptable, though unexceptional.... but again...over-priced. Over £20 for mains like chicken, which was low on flavour and came without the advertised "bread sauce". The roast beef looked like a generous portion, until you realise that it's two very thin slices on a pile of cheap cabbage. About half of what you get a places as humble as the Dog House...and no better....just half as much and a lot more expensive. Puddings were unexceptional....except in price. Most places would charge £6.00, or perhaps £7.00. Here you pay £10.00 for a very ordinary (small) slice of pie. 'Squeeze the maximum out of the mugs, and give them as little as possible. When the dust settled, a simple lunch for 4 was £200, with 3 small (called "large", of course" glasses of wine. I would go to Captains, where the food is as good or better, and they aren't trying to skin their customers alive. Or Les Douvres. But I won't be back at Le Gouffre again. I just don't like being made to feel like a mug.More

A group of 8 of us went for Tennerfest tapas. The food was delicious and very well priced. It was midweek so it was quiet but the music was fun and the waiter was lovely. Only issue was that there seemed to be no heating...on & it was very cold. I’m sure no issue if the place is full but just a thought? Apparently the menu is changing to incorporate “pie night” - can’t wait!More

Hi Lisa, the heating is now on! We had a problem with the boiler when we first switched it on after the summer but that's now sorted and it's all toasty and warm 😊 X

We new the place had changed hands but hadn’t picked up on the reviews that the place had gone Tapas! We we blindsided with all the dishes at once like a fast food restaurant. Goodness knows how they created them in such a short time...The food quality was ok but the delivery just didn’t work. I have to question whether this is the right style for this restaurant in rural guernsey There was no real bonding with the place or acknowledgment or repartee with us as customers. If we were not careful it would all be over in 30 minutes Left with a bit of indigestion and a metaphorical bad taste. Sorry it didn’t work for us! The previous incumbent created a very special experience also only opening a couple of nights a week.More

What a fantastic location to have a cake and a drink to revitalise yourself whilst on a demanding coastal walk.... I've had the best cake ever: chocolate and orange, while my husband had the almonds and custard tarte. DIVINE!

Can't comment on the food as we didn't get that far. I don't usually leave bad reviews but this was one of the worst hospitality experiences I have ever had. We were a large group (9) and saw there were plenty of free tables outside...at lunchtime, so sat on the large picnic table. After a bit of wait a waitor came over and said, are you here for food? We said yes, to which he smirked(!) and walked inside. More of a wait followed, so one of our party went inside to get some menus, and was asked by the manager (blonde lady) who was really rude and abrupt - Did you not think to book if there are so many of you? As we were about to leave she did come out (still no ounce of friendliness!) to say they could do us some sandwiches if we ordered now but the damage had already been done so we went elsewhere.More

A wonderful find on our coastal walk. We sat outside on the terrace drinking coffee and eating a delicious lemon torte. We could have been on the Italian Riviera! Easy listening music played in the background which added to a most enjoyable visit. A gem...of a place tastefully decorated both inside and out. The food looked delicious too and I believe they have tapas evenings.More
