Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

I have never written a review before, either good or bad but feel i must warn everyone not to go here UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES . OUR EXPERIENCE . The restaurant has a lovely setting but a surly owner . On arrival the owner grunted at...us and showed us to our table. For starters my wife ordered a watermelon salad (hard to ruin you"ld think ) of which 50% was black watermelon seeds and almost inedible . Our friends ordered tuna tartare and tuna carpaccio respectively . The tuna tartare was brown in colour and chunky and appeared to have come from a tin AND the tuna carpaccio looked and ( I"m assured )tasted like brown leather doused in vinegar . I can honestly say that they werent like ANY tartare or carpaccio dish I"ve seen anywhere ,ever before. When we tried to call the manager/owner over to complain he ignored us and sent a waiter instead. Instead of accepting our complaint about how disgusting and definitely not fresh the 2 dishes were thewaiter proceeded to inform us thats how they prepare the dishes ( which was ludicrous ) and i think suggested we may not have known what we ordered ( laughable ) . Eventually as requested he took the dishes away but came back to tell us the owner had eaten both tuna dishes and enjoyed them immensely !!!(shock!horror!) Now to the main event of the evening and surely things could only improve . Our main courses arrived .. 2x SUPPOSEDLY fresh fish and prawns and 2 x sea bass .All 4 pieces of fish were most definitely not fresh and almost certainly had been frozen . The sea bass customers took one bite and instantly decided it was tasteless ,tepid and wasn"t worth another bite and pushed their paltes away in disgust .I,however was almost on my way to my second bite when I was advised to stop immediately and check the prawns as my friends' was definitely not cooked properly and therefore may be dangerous to eat. Sure enough on inspection mine were the same and we immeditely called the manager over .He dared to look at us in disgust and inform us we should leave the restaurant . Obviously we were delighted to do so until he immediately gave us a bill for 210 EUROS . We still had 4 full plates of food in front of us ( with the uncooked prawns intact ) but he decided to ignore this fact and inferred that we"d been trying to get a free meal from the start Despite the fact we"d sent nearly all the food back and not ordered any replacements . This seems a very bad way of getting a free meal but thats just my point of view !!! I then pointed to the 4 main courses and informd him that we wouldn"nt eat that food if he paid us let alone actually want it for free. The oqner then gave us the choice of paying in full or calling the police so I begged him to get te police there so i could explain to them and show them the prawns which I was keeping as evidence . SO 15 minutes later we were still sitting there and just being ignored, during which time a curious diner had come over to ask what was going on as he"d heard the commotion and consequently was disgusted when i showed the main course cpmplete with exhibit A ( the prawns ) .I decided the manager was just mocking us now and also brought what looked like his brother out of the kitchen to stand with him by the exit to try and intimidate us so I walked over to inform him to get the police there within 5 mins or we were leaving .No-one appeared so we walked over to him and placed 105 euros in font of him ( as we"d had some wine and drinks and 1 starter had been eaten ) to which he then said he didnt' want our money any longer but he knew where we were staying. We left and went to a proper restaurant to get fed. I can truly say I've never had such disgusting treatment or food in any establishment in the entire universe and I doubt any other human has either . It gets better .. The next morning the receptionist had asked how our meal was and I informed her of every detail as I was so outragedand she said she would phone the restaurant to complain an find out what went on . I went up to the room after breakfast only to get a frantic call from my wife telling me the police were here to see us !! I went to recption and there was 3 plain clothes kos police and my friend and the receptionist to translate and speed up the process as they only spoke limited english. They asked why we had left without paying so we explained fully and showed pictures of every poor attempt at food we"d been served and how we"d offered to pay for what we had . They iasked if we were prepared to pay and we said no.He then phoned the owner and informed us ( through the receptionist )that in that case the owner was goingt o sue us. I was delighted with the chance to go to court and relay my experiences in public and explain how unfit for the job both the owner and food were. It was rather amusing seeing the receptionists" and the policemens"faces as I'd implored her to relay this information in no uncertain terms. the police laughed and then called the owner back and asked if we"d be prepared to pay half the total (which we"d offered to pay anyway on leaving the restauarnt ). Despit my protestations that we should just let him sue us I was persuaded that it would just be easier to pay what we"d offered to anyway and draw a line under it. So thats what we did . The police joked with us and then thanked us and left and we gave the reception 100 euros to give to the Conman of Kos . I APOLOGISE FOR THE LENGHTH OF THIS REVIEW BUT AS YOU CAN SEE THERE WAS A LOT TO TELL AND I WANT EVERYONE TO KNOW THAT PETRINO IS SOMEWHERE YOU SHOULD NEVER GO EVEN IF IT"S THE LAST RESTAURANT ON EARTH .Obviously IF you want to get ripped off , abused ,intimidated and stalked by a grumpy ,surly , rude ,old man masquerading as a restaraunter then please don"t let me ruin the experience for you . Enjoy your holiday . With the exception of PETRINO and its staff, Kos and its people are a joy to spend time with.More

Picturesque setting in Kos Town. Lovely garden seating area which creates a really nice atmosphere. Food was very good - excellent menu. Sadly, the service wasn’t so good - felt rushed into making a decision as what to order and once the main course was...cleared, we waited over 45 minutes with no attention from staff. We then had to ask 4 times for the bill. Other than the service, would recommend and was a nice evening.More

Wow! This place is a hidden gem and I wish we had more time to spend here but we was in a rush as needed to be somewhere. We visited on recommendation from a friend who has been before, it was such an authentic and...romantic atmosphere! The restaurant is in a wonderland of plants and greenery, the menu is large, we opted for the Greek meal for 2. it was very impresssive! A smokey dish came out and was served to us with hanging chicken kebabs, beef patties, moussaka, something in vine leaves and so much more on the plate. (See picture) the service was top notch and I saw the desserts inside in the display fridge, they looked beautiful too! Gutted I didn’t have one. We told two more couples who was visiting the area about this restaurant who said they would visit also, I highly recommend it to anyone!More

If you're looking for a more upmarket setting for dinner this restaurant/wine bar is the place to go. The garden setting is beautiful with chilled out jazz background music. The food menu is very good and quality of food was lovely. The only criticism would...be that we felt rather rushed into placing our food order - we'd only had the menu for a couple of minutes before the waiter came for our order and when we asked for a little bit more time he was not very happy. That apart, we had a lovely evening and would definitely recommend, but book ahead.More

Lovely surroundings, great cocktails and wine but the meal was disappointing as the vegetables were very hard and uncooked and not reflective price.

Dining room was excellently decorated. I got the sense the surrounding roads aren’t quite as pretty as the Old Town but the way they have done their garden to hide this, is brilliant. We were a family of 16 including 3 babies. Food, service and...price (€600 including cocktails and four bottles of wine) all excellent. Highly rated find.More

We visited Petrino twice, the first visit was fantastic and the service head and shoulders above other restaurants. Location is very beautiful and the food fresh alongside a decent wine list. The second visit wasn’t so good, we unfortunately were sat amongst 3 large tables...and our service suffered for it, we left after 1hr 45mins having still not been served our main course, the staff are all friendly however I believe they struggle to keep up as the kitchen is very small (they advised this to us) Overall though I still would visit againMore
