Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

La CAVE: Quaint, elegant, and classy. My definition of an excellent restaurant is exceptional service, terrific food, and a clean atmosphere. La CAVA had them all- and more. We were significantly early for our reservation, as our last Castle tour was completely quicker than anticipated....We took a chance at an earlier entry and we were warmly welcomed by Martial and his colleague, an elegant Madame whose name I wished I had known. They pleasantly prepared my Remy Martin mixed drink while meticulously creating a work of art for my wife and friends. We were then seated in a cozy corner of this elegant “cave”, while being served delicious appetizers that we didn’t even expect. Fresh trout and scrumptious rib meat preceded our meal. What a surprise !! Our wait staff explained the ALL FRENCH menu in great detail and knowledge. We all had the TBONE steaks which came out on time, perfectly cooked, and carefully garnished. The accompanying potatoes were prepared with zesty seasonings. Some of us partook of local wine which showed remarkable bouquet. Again, Martial provided exceptional service with his associates. Every request was met with a smile. Dessert and coffees were the same. Creative and mouth- watering were pervasive themes. In summary, if you want an experience like no other-a feeling like you’re in Paris, but with a country feeling , please try this once in a lifetime ‘cave dining’ experience.More

We visited as two couples in 2018 September. The room is beautiful, very romantic and unique. The food was excellent as I recall, and the wine was nice as well. I was the only one in our group who spoke French, and it is very...rusty especially with some of the items on La Cave's menu. No one else spoke French. Our waiter of course was French speaking. One person in our party, frustrated, said "can you get someone who speaks English?" because she was having difficulty ordering. I was mortified but the waiter was very gracious. My only complaint is that it seems I have to call in advance for reservations and we are in the US and I have no international cell phone plan right now. I wish we could reserve for late June when we are returning there. I guess we'll have to wait until we are there and hope we get lucky! I hope we can get in for another wonderful experience at La Cave.More

This was the best meal I’ve had out in over a year. My favorite foie gras to start followed by the most incredible côte de bœuf of my life. Cooked perfectly rare and carved table side. It had a fiery smokiness on the seared crust...that reminded me of BBQ. You can only get that flavor with an open flame. I don’t even remember the specifics of my chocolate dessert because my wife had a soufflé that tasted like key lime pie. On top of all that, we had an amazing bottle of wine that was a mere 26€. The best value in France. And I haven’t even mentioned the great ambiance of being in the cave not the excellent service. I would make a return trip from Paris just to eat at La Cave.More

Touring the Loire Valley and not stopping here would be a mistake. The duck breast was perfectly seared, the baked snails were bubbling hot in a sauce of tomatoes, wine and a bit of cream, and the chocolate lava cake finished the meal perfectly. Add...to that a generous pour of their own wine, and this memory will happily linger.More

My husband and I dined at La Cave last summer during a trip to the Loire Valley and we fell in love. The food, the ambience, and the local wine all combined for a memorable evening. Would highly recommend the côte de bœuf, which is...massive (served for two) and extremely high quality and well cooked. The Touraine Rouge wine we had there, while very affordable, is also one of our favorite reds we've tried.More

The servers were most helpful and charming, particularly the lady who took our order and was fairly conversant in English. Of course, the setting inside a cave is quite dark, but it casts a rather romantic atmosphere despite enormously high ceilings. Our meal was most...satisfying, and the local wine was a perfect pairing.More

We came here with our tour group. What a wonderful treat. The ambiance is beautiful. Limestone walls, cozy fireplace, lovely dining room. We My husband had the Hake fish and I had the pork chop. Both excellent and the server was friendly and helpful. Desert...was their specialty - baked alaska. This was a really relaxing and enjoyable lunch.More

Very bad experience. 1h30 awaiting before being allowed to order without getting water, bread or being proposed an aperitivo. In the end, 3h30 spent in the restaurant for a starter and a main course! The maître d’hotel is the archetype of the French snobbish and...arrogant man, passing through the tables and ignoring the customers. It seems that they are quickly over busy when the restaurant gets fully booked. But this not an excuse for such attitude. Kids and families absolutely not welcome. We had that feeling from the beginning to the end. As an example, we asked for a little mushed potato for our little boy. The provided answer was straightforward and simple: « we do not have that kind of thing. Look at the menu and let me know if anything suits you ». Not very diplomatic. He came back 45 min later despite our reminders. We considered leaving the place at that time. We should have done it. Food was correct but far below what we could expect. Very small portions, menus not very sophisticated (forget the sauce or the fantastic flavor which you find often in French cuisine), ridiculous dessert (ice cream with chocolate biscuit), some unacceptable negligences (nerves in the foie gras!), Entering the restaurant, you might be impressed by the place (inside a cave). But food quality, price (very limited choice of menus - for a la carte, you will be over 40 Euro for just a starter and main course) and above all poor service totally contrasting with what this restaurant is promoting. You are in the beautiful Chateaux de la Loire area with many nice places plenty of good food and wines. If you want to enjoy your stay, you should definitely try another place.More

First, the holiday decorations were beautiful and the escargot was an excellent opening to our dinner; however, the duck that followed was disappointing. It was served nicely sliced but was rare and tough. The braised edges were tender and tasty, but the tough center was...not appealing to our taste. Dessert was fine. Service was efficient but slow to respond to requests. If the food had been up to the level of the ambiance this would have been a special evening, but overall it was a disappointment at the price.More
