Second time and sadly never again, now firstly i never have a issue with waiting if a place is busy , but there seemed to be only one person taking orders , a lady with a blonde bob . After chatting with a table for...5 or so mins then when she eventually finish walked past us and said ill be with you in a min , then we waited again then the insulting part went to two big tables who came in and sat down well after us . So we walked out drove to crewkerne parked up walked to billbys sat down and got served in pretty the same time we waited at the above and not served . I retold our experience to the lady that brought our food at billbys , she laughed and said they obviously dont want the business ! Exactly!!More
first, waiting time, 45min, service terrible, staff very rude, prices have gone up, small portions, £12/50 fore lamb, small lamb, £8/50, it got to the stage i can count the peas, 2 lamb chops the size of a 50 / pence piece, no roast potatoes,...i think it been taken by a new manager,.... the menu has complety change, for the worst, all the prices have gone up, not happy, not comeing back.More
Read some negative reviews and understand the comments and frustration. I have been twice for Sunday lunch in October. Plenty of veg. and a very good selection for four people. Good sized portions. Good gravy. Excellent crackling if you're among the first, early diners and...request it. Could have been hotter but as folks have commented, the staff are few and do the best they can. I'm very happy with the place because it's a nice airy environment and apart from one waitress - 'don't touch the cakes' - who I thought was slightly bonkers when I realised that she wasn't joking, the staff are lovely. They haven't come from Michelin restaurants and this is Somerset ..... and a farm. Sunday lunch, remembering that you are in a Farm Shop cafe and not a restaurant and if you are with friends or family and have things to talk about, the/a wait is worth it every time. But then, I'm retired having been served by my own chefs for fifteen years so it's a pleasant change. Now to breakfast. We waited. We were with friends, relatives and we had things to catch up on so by the time our breakfast arrived we were hungrier and full of good tea, ready to tuck in. Excellent. Everything on our plates - four big breakfasts - was so flavourful and obviously just (freshly) cooked. That's one reason for the wait and for us it's worth it. Life is slower and so much more enjoyable for it. As Arnold said, "I'll be back." NB can't comment on lunches in the week as we only do Sunday lunches and breakfasts.More
I was very disappointed, I called in the morning and booked a table as my Nan is disabled and wanted to make sure there was a table available, when I got there a very rude lady said I hadn’t booked a table and got quite...funny and I showed her I called that morning, I don’t know of her name but other customers were saying how rude and sharp she was being not only to customers but one particular staff member, I actually went over to check that she was ok and I could see she was upset. The food was ok, the lamb was very undercooked and tender and not enough veg for three people, I wouldn’t recommend to other people it was manic and felt like a stressful experience.More
We had a lovely family lunch today to celebrate our son’s birthday. The meal was lovely, the staff were great, as always. The highlight was when the staff brought out his birthday cake they had made for us. Being in his 40s he was a...bit embarrassed as they were singing as they brought it to us. Highly recommend this place!!More
Went for lunch with 6 adults and 3 kids. Food arrived quite quickly and was good. My belly pork of the specials menu was very good, as was my wife’s lamb. The breakfast was also good. Bought a few things from the farm shop afterwards...which had a good variety of stuff.More
I went in for Sunday lunch. The place was packed; there were families with small kids, pensioners, couples, single people. There was a choice of meats for Sunday lunch - beef, lamb and pork - all locally produced. I had the beef. There was plenty...of meat, which was tender and lean, and it came with a huge Yorkshire pudding, roast potatoes, a bowl of various vegetables, and gravy. It was almost too much for one person but I managed to polish it off and was too full to have any pudding afterwards, even though I saw some very nice ice creams and trifle being served. I sat indoors, but there were also people eating outside at picnic tables and enjoying the sunshine. Service was very good - all the waiting staff were working very hard to fulfill orders, and I didn't have to wait long at all to get my pot of tea, then my lunch, which together cost only £15. After lunch, I bought some things in their farm shop, which is very well stocked with lots of lovely environmentally-friendly and welfare-produced goods. The Barleymow is the best place I've been to for lunch in a while, and is great for families, having a maize maze at the moment, and various other farmyard-type attractions for kids to enjoy. If I had to criticize, it would be that the car park was struggling to cope with the number of cars arriving.More
Terrible waiting ages for service. Ended up leaving. won't be going there again. Not enough staff.
Great traditional farm shop in the area of Chard with bakery and butchers as well as fresh produce and locally handmade products, can definitely get essential here for cooking if you are staying locally. We brought some cake and savoury items from the chilled section...and they were delicious. Other reviews stated it was dog friendly, however when we arrived with our dog there was a sign saying assistance dogs only, so she wasn’t allowed in, which was a shame but we just took it in turns to have a browse. We didn’t eat in the restaurant but the menu looked niceMore
We stayed in the area for a few days and came here for breakfast 2 mornings in a row. Someone always came over quickly and our drinks and food were very quick. We came around 9am both days. Lovely food and great service.
After arriving at 10-15 and then ordering drinks and 3 breakfasts we began our wait, drinks arrived 10-40,and waited again,my 2 family guests had travelled 50 miles to get there,11,11-15,11-30,now at the point where it’s getting ridiculous, they had to be back for around 1 ish,at 11-40...made the decision to leave, paid for our drinks and tried to explain how long we had been waiting,no one cared at all,no apologies, this was an extremely disappointing morning, there seemed to be no actual method to who they served and in any which order, people around us who had come in later were getting there food, but the lack of anyone bothered about it I feel is pretty appalling.More
This is a follow up review to say that I still continue to go to Barleymows for my regular Sunday morning treat of a "Big Breakfast" the quality and standard of the food is still as perfect as ever and the staff are all so...friendly and always make me fell welcome and at home. The team is lead by the totally awesome Margaret whose customer care goes above the call of duty. If you are in need of a hearty breakfast made to perfection then look no further than Barleymows.More
