Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.

Lovely pub. Heart of the village, beautiful church nearby. Went on an impulse and rang and got the last table. Excellent beer and service. We had the roast but there was also an excellent menu Pub was packed, obviously with many friends. In the summer...the visitors spill over outside into the sunshine. This village has a remarkable historical society telling many stories of the war years..More

An absolutely brilliant Sunday lunch. Apart from a "Roast", there are other choices on the menu. The food was well presented, delicious and served by friendly, helpful staff. Portion sizes are certainly ample and very good value for money. I would certainly recommend.

Delicious fresh traditional pub grub - we were pleased we had booked as the pub was full on a Thursday night. Served on scrubbed wooden tables we had liver and bacon served on mash with a good selection of fresh vegetables. Our wives had scampi...and chips - good portions and excellent chips, followed by sticky pudding and pear and apple crumble, served with proper custard. Beer and cider good with cheerful service - an excellent evening - great value less than £25 per headMore

Excellent food, excellent friendly, helpful staff, excellent atmosphere and excellent value for money - what more could you want? With friends we went for Sunday lunch. My wife had a traditional roast beef dinner, I had the gammon. Both were excellent; my wife said the...beef just melted in her mouth. The desserts were just as excellent. My wife is Gluten Free but this did not cause any problems whatsoever. Would certainly recommend to anyone looking for a traditional pub with excellent food.More

We had dinner at this pub and it was so good we went back the next night too. All four meals were excellent - duck confit, tagliatelle, burger, and a fish platter. The chef clearly knows what s/he is doing, the waiting and bar staff...were friendly, the other patrons (mostly locals from what we could tell) were friendly too. Prices were reasonable. We’d definitely go back if we were in the area again.More

This is a great traditional country pub with tables kept very clean and real ale on tap. It was the wife’s birthday and we wanted an early meal somewhere where we could take our dogs. We rang to book a table and being a Wednesday...it was quite quiet so no problem with getting in. Lovely friendly owner/staff welcomed us and throughout our meal we had a chat with them. They were happy to adapt the menu to suit our needs. Fish cakes, sea bass and steak were all cooked to perfection with decent size portions. Menu prices are very reasonable and I would expect it to get busy at the weekend. It’s a shame we are moving away from the area as it’s definitely worth a visitMore

We had lunch at the Bell and Jorrocks while visiting a relative in the nearby care home. A combination of Covid and living in the NE of Scotland meant it was several years since we had last visited any pub in the south, and it...didn’t disappoint - good food at a reasonable price, attractive inside and out, and a very pleasant host, Sean, who very patiently explained what on earth Jorrocks referred to!More

Having spent a wonderful Sunday morning at Headcorn we decided to support local business and have lunch at a local pub. We called in at The Bell and Jorrocks Most tables inside were empty at this time, with 2 benches occupied outside. I was informed...that they were fully booked but would ask in the kitchen. The polite young waitress said we could have a bench outside, I ordered some drinks and returned to the bar and ordered our sandwiches presuming they wouldn't take long. Then the long wait began.... we were left sitting outside for 45 minutes, with no sign of lunch and watched customers come along eat food and and leave. My husband went to the bar to ask when our food might be coming, the barman answered "soon". When asked how long it takes to make a sandwich the barman replied "I can always cancel your order", and so the wait continued. 10 minutes later the landlady came outside brandishing our plates. Instead of offering an apology which one would expect after such a long delay, she stood there holding our food and told my husband he was rude to her barman because he asked how long the food would be and because she had 'fitted us in'. She then began talking about problems in the service industry. As she continued her outburst our little girl started to cry because of the way she was speaking to my husband. I very calmly told her that she needed to stop and to go away. We were just left stunned by her behaviour. We feel this type of service is totally unacceptable. Firstly, a restaurant should not 'fit in' bookings if they do not have the staff to cater for them and the kitchen is already under pressure. At the very least the guests should be told from the outset to expect long delays. If they had communicated this in the beginning we would simply have dined elsewhere. No customer should have to wait almost an hour for a sandwich and then made to feel thankful that the food arrived at all. I went to the bar and paid £29.50 for 2 sandwiches, 2 soft drinks and 1 pint of Guinness and the most awful lunch experience we've ever had. We left as my daughter was still so upset by this experience I didn't want this person re--appearing outside to upset her again. Having been to so many other wonderful dining establishments in Kent which have provided outstanding service and great food this has only served to highlight how appalling the service was that we received at The Bell and Jorrocks.More
