I'm not usually impressed with roast dinners away from home. The quality, quantity and value of the food at The Old Station far exceeded my hopes, let alone expectations. My wife is vegetarian and quite often struggles to find a decent Sunday dinner out. Her vegetable lasagne was, in her words, the best lasagne she's ever had. Myself and two friends had the beef roast. The plates were filled, tender and tasty beef was hiding everywhere, the selection of vegetables was cooked perfectly and it was served with gravy so good that I desperately wanted to lick the plate clean! All four of us left feeling completely satisfied and unable to squeeze pudding in. The food is freshly cooked, so there will be a little wait but, by 'eck, it is definitely worth it!. Lovely food, friendly helpful people. Coming back soon. Thank you.

Lovely little spot, staff were very friendly and the food was delicious. The staff were very accommodating to my needs as an autistic person and were able to separate pasta and sause for me. Will be coming back again with family next time we are passing by.

A big thank you to Volker,Sue and their team for going above and beyond when we visited for Sunday lunch yesterday. We were celebrating a friends birthday and having overheared our conversation, when dessert was served our friends plate was decorated with Happy Birthday in hand piped chocolate and a birthday candle. There was also a musical rendition of Happy birthday to you, which encouraged everyone to clap and sing along. It made our friends day. Thanks once again for your very thoughtful gesture.

We called in for Sunday lunch on spec and were lucky, although booking is preferred for this meal. A varied menu was on offer, with traditional beef, pork or chicken Sunday lunch; a couple of fish dishes and a vegetarian option. There was quite a wait for the meal but it was definitely worth it. A generous helping of delicious, tender beef; Yorkshire pud; 6 different veg and two sorts of potato. Absolutely delicious and the veg were perfect. No room for pud after that! We discovered later that the delay in serving is because as much of the meal as possible, particularly the veg, is cooked for each order. What more could we ask for. We had our dog with us and he was welcomed in the restaurant with a water bowl and treats. Evenso, because of the dog, we had to sit downstairs when most restaurant tables are uostairs. This is a rule from the building owner, not from the couple who run the restaurant. The downstairs tables are also used for people with limited mobility who can't manage the stairs and there is a bell system to call staff in this situation. This place is a little gem and dog friendly too. We look forward to visiting again

Table booked for 7 guests for Sunday lunch . As the bistro doesn't have a licence to serve alcohol but does allow the customers to bring their own,we were kindly offered glasses for a small corkage fee . The Sunday menu was varied with a good choice of meats .we opted for roast lamb which was absolutely done to perfection ! Other guests opted for the lamb shank and pork goulash which was equally delicious. The chef / owner Volker was at hand for any questions we had which were answered in a very amusing manner ! All in all our lunch experience was brilliant and we wouldn't hesitate to return the next time we're in Masham .

Would not recommend having breakfast here, when ordering I asked for my bacon and sausage to be very well done, when it arrived I asked the waitress to return it and ask the chef to do them more as the sausage was very underdone, after a couple of minutes the chef returned the breakfast and practically threw it at me saying he could not cook it any more, I unfortunately ate what I could but I hindsight I should have left but I was with friends and didn't want to make them feel uncomfortable. I was with a group of 14 who were going to have breakfast the following day but because of the chefs attitude and refusal to cook it how I wanted it they missed out big time. Such a shame because its a great site and the other staff are very helpful.

We have been looking for a new 'local' to have Sunday lunch and had been recommended this place. What an absolute find ! We had two Sunday lunches- beef and pork, generous portions, homemade Yorkshire puds, veg cooked to perfection. Sue and Volker were wonderful hosts, very welcoming and friendly we have booked for next week already. Smashing place, fabulous hosts and great food. Ring up and book as this place is a local hidden gem and it's worth the wait ! Having spend 30 yrs+ in Hospitality myself, I recognise quality when I find it !!

Sunday lunch with Volker and Sue is always a pleasure. From the moment you walk into the Old Station Cafe-Bistro, you’re always made to feel welcome, and if you have a good sense of humour then you will get along with the chef just fine! The food is traditional and hearty, and absolutely delicious. Everything is cooked fresh to order, so you know that you’re getting a meal made with care - and I can honestly say that we’ve never eaten better food! Warm, welcoming, friendly and delicious food… what more can anyone want! Thankyou for our lunches every Sunday guys, me and dad enjoy them every single week!

Good parking, friendly but not vegan friendly. No milk ( non diary)alternative at all and after trying to find a non-diary drink when we asked if there was anything on the menu that was vegan we were called awkward. My daughter had chips in a dry butty and said she felt alien. The man who came to serve us said “all vegans do is eat grass”. It should not say it is a vegan friendly cafe. The man was Brusk, but the young man was very sweet. On the plus it is dog friendly and spacious. We had a misunderstanding with the order. Brown bread buttered instant of white bread dry, and a cheese melt with no cheese.

Mothers Day family lunch. Can only praise the wonderful presentation and quality of the meal. The family chose a wide selection from the extensive Menu and, without exception, expressed satisfaction with their choice. Personally the Beef, chosen by my wife and I, was cooked to perfection. The friendly and helpful staff were attentive throughout the meal and we will certainly return often in the future.

Shocking experience and customer service at this place. Visited with our 6 and 3 year old children for lunch, when we arrived there was only one other table of 3 in the whole place. We stood around the entrance and waited for a short while but after being ignored asked the waitress if we were able to go and sit at the table by the window, she said yes that was fine. We sat at the table and there was a laminated notice on there to say the table still needed sanitising - the other table up from it which was the only other place large enough for us to all sit said the same thing so we stayed sat assuming somebody would be coming to clean the table. The waitress disappeared as soon as we sat down and we didn’t see her again. 10 minutes later the owner appeared and came across and stated ‘oh it’s the family who can’t read’ we asked him what he meant and he said the sign said the table wasn’t sanitised so we shouldn’t have sat there. His comment and attitude was disgusting and totally unjustified, I explained the waitress said we could sit there and the other table has the same notice so who knows where he wanted us to stand whilst waiting 10 minutes for him to appear and finally get round to wiping down a table in a very quiet cafe! He kept repeating we shouldn’t have sat there so told him we would not be staying and left immediately with two young upset children - all totally unnecessary! This place is on our doorstep but unfortunately we will never return!

Friendly welcome, clean and dog friendly so off to a great start. The chef warned us at the outset he was on his own so the food may take a little time which was fine because we were informed at the outset. (they prefer groups to book when possible to allow them to bring in staff to shorten the waiting time). The menu is very extensive which must be a nightmare to cater for but the food we ordered was excellent size portions, beautifully cooked & presented and we will most definitely return to sample some more chefs delights. Thank you

I dined there today with 7 other family members for lunch. The owner explained that he had been let down by one of his staff and was waiting for his girlfiend to come and 'help out'. Having been told by my 92 year old aunt, who dined with us that the omlettes were good, 7 of us opted for variaties of omlettes with chips. We did wonder if we were ' pushing our luck' for Volker the owner and chef to make and serve that many omlettes at the same time, we werent and all 8 of us enjoyed well prepared, tasty food all prepared in a timely fashion. The whole experience, the food, the interaction with Volker and his girlfriend, the welcome, the cleanliness and the general feel of the place, including value for money was 5 star. I would heartily recommend this place if you are in the area.

We called in en spec as we’d overheard how great it was at a race meeting. We were asked if we’d booked to which we hadn’t as we only wanted a sandwich which I’m not sure was actually on the menu given the amazing looking Sunday lunches coming out but the lovely lady said she could offer us a roast meat sandwich. We were happily shown to a lovely table and we chose the beef which was delicious and cooked perfectly. The staff were lovely, service was great including a floor walk from Volke who checked his customers were happy (they were!) and the bill was excellent value. We will definitely be back 😊

Absolutely gorgeous food. The chef was so welcoming, funny and helpful. Lovely surroundings. We ordered the bacon, chicken, brie and cranberry sauce melt and a omelette with chicken, bacon and mushrooms. All came with a lovely fresh salad and piping hot crispy chips. Dog friendly outside and downstairs only in the cafe. We will definitely be back.
