Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

A disappointing meal. The fish (cod with prawns and scallops) was nice, but the cream sauce and vegetables were very bland and the mashed potato was not good. The liver was nice but the chips (kindly swapped from the mash on the menu) were swimming...in the gravy, rather than being served on the side. Sadly we will not be returning.More

Six of us enjoyed a great meal here, lovely home cooked food with a great service. Most of us had Sunday roasts with the most fabulous yorkshires! Two young boys serving who were excellent (but George, get your hair cut 😂😂) We had a tiny...issue but this was sorted out with great concern by the lady (owner maybe?) immediately after we mentioned it. I think the pub had a mixture of tourists (us!) and locals, the locals which were really friendly. We would definitely return if in the area again. Thanks The Masons Arms! Sharon & Co!More

Lovely tradition pub at the heart of the village, we turn up without pre booking and it was no problem to eat even with their expected table of 22 and another 11. Came back the next day for an afternoon tipple, sat in the beer...garden out back and met the lovely Dorothy (pub Labrador) Great place, lovely staff.More

We came for lunch and to be honest we expected more. It didn’t look that clean and we weren’t impressed with the Labrador in the kitchen which we saw as we went into the beer garden. The food however was ok , we had fish...and chips and it was fine. Could be so much better with a bit of effort.More

Very unwelcoming pub with signs on majority of the tables for reservations later in the evening. Telling customers they could only sit there for so long before the reserved table was to be used. Made me and my husband feel very unwelcome and the service...at the bar was very slow. Also the wifi seemed to be the slowest in the world. We won’t be visiting again. We went to the The Old Swan which was really nice and very welcoming.Their wifi was great so not the area just poor quality at the Masons Arms. In this day and age the customers need to feel valued not as if they are second best to those with reservations.More

Dinner, 8 pm, weekday. No clear direction if you get seated, order at the bar, or seat yourself. Turns out all drinks are ordered at the bar. Wing it for the seating. And check out at the bar. Service lackluster in general. Slow to take...the order. Meal took 40 minutes to arrive. Not fresh tasting, flavorful, or presented in a way we've come to expect with pub fare. Wasn't checked back on by staff or directed how to pay. Had salmon and smoked haddock fish cakes on some odd chowder something that wasnt flavorful. Side of garden greens which turns out was steamed and not seasoned bowl of misc greens. Had much better experience at The Bull followed by Old Swan. Wouldn't come again.More

I booked a table for dinner late on a Sunday with my 12 year old son when we were visiting the area. I had a roast dinner and he had a burger. Both of our meals were absolutely delicious. Portion sizes were great too. The...food alone was enough to make us re-book for dinner again the following day, but the warm welcome absolutely sealed the deal. When we arrived again on a Monday night, we were greeted like regular customers. My son had the burger again and I had the steak pie - the food more than lived up to expectations. I could have licked the gravy boat as it was so good! Thanks very much to everyone who worked there - we will be back when we are next in the area. (Note to the gentleman behind the bar - I hope you have tried the IPA shandy now, it's honestly really nice!)More

Just returned from a 2 night break at The Masons Arms. After a long journey from Wales, we were warmly welcomed by the landlord. Roaring log fire burning in this lovely rustic pub, so we sat and relaxed with a couple of drinks. All of...the staff here are very helpful and friendly, and nothing was too much trouble. Our room was nice & warm. The village of Gargrave is a great base for exploring the beautiful Dales. Thoroughly enjoyed our mini break!More

We visited the Masons Arms, Gargrave on a couple of evenings when we were staying nearby at Gallaber Park. The meals, service and atmosphere were all excellent. We plan on eating there again when we are next in the area.

Our first visit and it was lovely. We had an evening meal, a burger and the chicken breast and both were delicious. A lovely welcoming atmosphere, great food and a friendly place. Will call again.

We ate there on a Monday in June this year but I guess you ought to phone the pub to be certain, given the way pubs are having to limit hours due to financial pressures or lack of staff!
