Wonderful chef and wonderful service by Nicola! Little gem in the centro storico of Scicli. I would recommend it wholeheartedly!

We just had dinner at this great place. It really is a hidden gem. Beautifully located but incredibly good food as well as great wines. Nicolai helped us to choose the best bush and gave us good hints about the wine pairing. We had marinated...sardines and mackerel filled with breadcrumbs/ pine nuts and raisins as starter. As primi we had ravioli with swordfish and crema di rapa and linguini with scampi and funghi di Cazzubo. We did have a great evening thanks to an excellent chef and good hints from Nicolai.More
Absolutely not to be missed ! The food is not only exceptionally good but also imaginative and well presented. To top it all the staff is curtious and infinitely patient.
Happened upon this restaurant while visiting on a day trip to Scicli. We were lucky to get a table in the outside seating area. Prices higher than anywhere else we had eaten on our trip. My partner ordered the stuffed pacchero and really liked it....I ordered a fresh pasta dish with fennel and shrimp and was disappointed (didn't realize the tiny shrimp would be raw and didn't tast any fennel at all). Servers were polite but not friendly and the place felt pretentious.More
Friendly little restaurant in the centre of Scicli. We dropped in by chance and had a very friendly welcome. There’s interior seating and shaded seating on a wooden deck. Focuses on seafood. I had the deep fried salted cod, which was on the specials board,...which had a notice saying they couldn’t translate (thank goodness for apps!). Unfortunately I don’t eat battered, fried food but my husband’s starter (called “parmigiana” but more like a fish cake on an aubergine slice, was lovely. For main courses we had the tuna (ok but was a bit dry and the helping was enormous) and I had something described as swordfish fondue which turned out to be breaded and fried sword fish chunks floating in quite a lot of cheese sauce. Again, not my thing so I was rather underwhelmed. They might help themselves if they were more accurate in their descriptions. Bit style over substance.More
I ordered the Tuna Tartare thinking it would come seared and raw on inside but when it came it was cooked through. I took one bite and didn’t like so I sent it back. They offered another choice and I chose pasta. Pasta was good...and apps were tasty. So enjoyed the food. But at the end when the check came they charged me for the tuna and when I asked the server she said I have to speak to the manager. He came and said okay and took it off but was so hostile and rude and aggressive it really ruined my experience. I wasn’t even angry or upset I just explained that I didn’t eat the tuna. I was so apologetic because all my experiences with people in Sicily had been nothing except pleasant so I felt so badly asking not to have to pay for a meal I didn’t eat. I would have accepted it if he just said no. But to say yea and be so hostile about it was almost worse. Too bad because I enjoyed the food and ambience otherwise.More
We're visiting Scicli for the first time, and we're lucky enough to come across this lovely little restaurant.. my husband and I had this wonderful fregola with seafood and he had the tuna ragù which was an amazing experience for both of us, our waiter...Luis was an absolute delight, both explaining everything in English for us and with his dedicated attention. The wine that he recomend it was great, Overall an amazing experience that we will never forget, thank you LuisMore
Tucked away up a side street in Scicli is the brilliant restaurant Baqqala. If you are foodies like us (we live in Central London) this restaurant will not disappoint. We started by sharing a generous portion of tuna tartare followed by a sumptuous seafood fregola...which contained baby octopus, prawns, squid topped off with a large langostine. It was delicious. Luis, the waiter, gave fantastic advice on the wine and speaks perfect English as he has travelled the world and is married to a local lady. We arrived at 19:30 (early by Italian standards ) but by 20:30 was filling up fast with Italians . Would highly recommend.More
We visited Baqqala as a family with grown up kids. Luis was our waiter and he was very attentive and friendly and spoke great English. We shared a range of starters and they were amazing. The mains were all interesting and regional fish dishes with...a touch of cheffy flair. Some were better than others. My lobster spaghetti was too sweet, with a glaze on it. But most of us were very happy with our dishes. Would definitely recommend. Great atmosphere and knowledge.More
We absolutely love this great seafood specialty restaurant. All the dishes we have tried have been delicious, creative and elegant. Luis the waiter is very knowledgeable and gracious with perfect wine suggestions. All the stars!!! 💕🍾💕
We were only in Scicli for a few hours as we had visited the other main Baroque Cities on previous years and this was the last. We had not planned to have lunch as we were already going out for dinner in the evening but,...on seeing this lovely little restaurant, we decided to stop for a dink and some pasta. So impressed were we with the menu, service and the dish we selected we are now already planning a return for a couple of days next year so we can have dinner here. Pay them a visit, you will not be disappointed.More
Baqqala serves up a variety of perfected seafood dishes. Located on a street corner directly opposite the UNESCO sight in Scicli, Baqqala is a small, intimate, relaxing setting. We enjoyed prawns, a perfectly prepared sesame tuna and white fish dinners. Our waiter, Luis, was most...accommodating and attentive. Would definitely recommend!More
Delicious and interesting dishes. Lovely and good and attentive service by Luis. His English was perfect and he could explain the dishes excellent. Very recommended!
When another option was full, we headed to Baqqala. What a great decision! In a charming location, we were welcomed by the team, and sat at a table on the terrace sheltered from the midday sun. After a quick language check, we were given menus...in English, but more importantly given great guidance by the EN speaking waiter. The food was excellent, typical swordfish rolls, and an untypical but well executed tuna tataki. Both enjoyed with a decent house white. Dessert lived up to the rest of the experience. To be recommended.More
