It was my 71st birthday and our 24th wedding anniversary and we decided to go to The Moody Mare again with our friends. We have been a number of times and again we were not disappointed. It was a cold, wet Monday evening (23rd Oct)...when we drove into the car park but once we went inside we felt warm and comfortable. We were served by a lovely young waitress (unfortunately, didn't get her name) but she was very polite and smiley and updated us on some menu choices. We ordered starters, Warm camambert, tomato and pepper soup and mussels in white wine & cream sauce. All these dishes very excellent. I had the mussels and the portion size was great, served with 2 pieces of bread. I must admit that after eating the mussels and the sauce (well, more like a mussel, cream & white wine soup) i was pretty full. After having our starter dishes taken we waited about 15mins for our mains to be delivered to our table, which was great as it gave us time to digest starters and prepare for our main courses. We had ordered Beer battered fish & chips, house burger (came with 2 patties) and triple fish dish (sea bass, mini skate wing & cod in black butter & capers sauce) Oh, and big rustic chips came with all courses, Mmmm!!!. Again these dishes were superb, tasty and very filling, in fact we were not able to order any deserts as we were all full from 1st 2 courses. So, if you're looking for someone special to have a lovely meal supported by great staff then give The Moody Mare a go, i don't think you'll be disappointed.More

We were looking for a dog friendly pub for lunch after a walk. Couldn’t fault the Moody Mare. Very welcoming, friendly and relaxed. Really lovely outdoor area and equally lovely indoor area, if you have dogs they have specific areas and you have to order...at the bar rather than table service, for us this was perfect. Food was definitely above average, delicious and really good sized portions, very reasonably priced too. Charcuterie platter was really good. We will definitely be going back.More

The pub itself is very nice lovely staff very helpful and polite . Made to feel welcome this was our first visit and we sat in the garden. Must say loved the wallpaper in the ladies toilets 👍 Unfortunately the food was very average and...certainly not great value. The fish was very greasy and batter was extremely crispy. Although the seabass was tasty the best thing on the plate was the onion purée the wild garlic sauce was underwhelming. All in all a good pub with great staff but expensive average foodMore

Went for Sunday lunch - bumped into friends from my partners local - totally understand why they’ve relocated. Very friendly bar staff, excellent service and the Sunday roast was absolutely lovely - lots of fresh vegetables, crunchy roast potatoes, tasty gravy- superb. We couldn’t have...been made to feel more welcome and will definitely be back very soon.More

Went to moody mare on Friday night, had a great time, sat in the tipee area and the staff were very attentive. Food and drink all excellent, scotch eggs very good along with their own dry aged steak, finished with home made deserts. Move to...main bar area for live music which again was excellent. All in all a great evening out. Will be back.More

Went today,Sunday for our granddaughter’s birthday, party of 8 We all had roast dinner,it’s the worst roast I’ve had.All our Yorkshire puddings were burnt, the roast potatoes were obviously heated in the microwave, not crisp just dry and soggy. We had to wait along time for our food...even though they weren’t that busy. Won’t go againMore

Lovely pub and garden, we sat in the garden so we ordered food at the bar. Staff seemed a bit scatty and preoccupied. Main was nice, had chicken supreme. The veg was nice. When I went to order a dessert and glass of wine I...was quite shocked by the price. £8 for a medium glass of wine and another £8 for tiny chocolate brownie with a teaspoon of fudge sauce and scoop of ice cream seems very steep to me. Probably won't be back.More

We were a party of 5 persons and 3 dogs that had walked from nearby Crouch through the woods. Booking is recommended although this particular Saturday was not too busy. With so many dogs we took one of the several nicely furnished huts in the...garden though we would have been welcome inside the pub. Drinks were fine but Angostura Bitters for my pint of "Gunners". Food was brought to the table as were drinks so service was good. I had beer battered cod and chips with fresh peas with others having the huge sheperd's pie or sharing the charcuterie platter. The food was average but the overall cost proved most attractive and we will probably visit againMore

I booked the tipis for our Anniversary to be told on arrival the tipis are closed in the week, so an email to let us know would have been nice, so felt disappointed from the start. I asked for a cocktail to be then told...they don’t do cocktails at the moment, so had to have something I particularly did not want. I was given a set menu to choose from so there was hardly anything on there from when I browsed the website menu. I ordered Camembert for starter It was the worst, and most unimaginative Camembert I have ever had, it was for one the smallest I have ever had with 3 slices of stale bread that had no butter or even an attempt of being toasted, the bread just fell to bits so couldn’t even dip it into the soft cheese I didn’t even have the onion marmalade that was ment to be accompanied with this starter I see on the website menu it’s ment to have it with it. Absolutely awful ! The chicken supreme I choose I didn’t have much of a choice to choose from That was just ok I feel for a special occasion it was deeply disappointing and would not go there again shame as it’s a pretty quaint pubMore
