The best pub venue in Maldon, set on the Blackwater river.Thames barges aline the quayside. Large patio area, with seating for over 100 people. Over looked by Maldon St Marys Church. A wonderful setting on the quay, a fantastic old working dock fo yesteryear.

Was slightly hesitant to visit for lunch as reviews haven't been good, but as our table was already booked, we gave it a go. I have to say, so glad we did. The place was very busy as there was a fair on in Maldon....But we were served promptly and politely by our waitress. The food was excellent. Couldnt fault it. Whitebait starter and smoked salmon salad were great. All our group thoroughly enjoyed.More

We live locally to this pub and used it every week as the food and service was superb. Sadly it changed hands and we have tried to support it as the location is perfect. In the last year we have only been 4 times today...being one of them. Today we tried it again . I said the food is awful. Sausages part cooked then dunked in hot fat before service. However I said the fish and chips have always been OK so try to stick with that. Yeah right. After going to order at the bar and collecting cutlery we sat down. The food arrived at almost the same time. NOT COOKED FRESH. My husband had a sandwich which was dry beyond breve. The front of house manager came to collect our plates. We told her our concerns. She insisted food was cooked fresh.(faster than a microwave ) She accepted the sandwich was awful and did reimburses for that. She said all food is cooked fresh Coand you can come to see our kitchen. Yep OK. Basically the manager is the chef. A lovely man. Food is all part cooked then dunked into hot oil prior to surviving. Frozen chips and peas ate added. Fish apparently only takes 2 2/1 minutes to cook. Explains why it was cold. I hate writing bad reviews but I spoke to the manager. Explained people locally won't use the place for food. Such a shame as it is the perfect location. If you want good food try The Jolly Sailor(fish on the Quey) opposite.you might have to wait longer than 2 minutes for your food to arrive. Location might be a tad notes good. Prices title higher but 1000 times better. A shame that I freel we have lost a wonderful place to eat and take visitors. Today was just a total embarrassmentMore

Chips had to be sent back as raw inside. Burger was raw inside too. Squid was chewy. Not great. Plate with burger, chips, salad and coleslaw taken back due to raw chips and a bowl of chips brought out minus the salad and coleslaw.

The only thing that this pub has going for it is the location. The staff only want to serve locals. Anybody they don't recognise they are rude and helpful.

Last week some friends and I sat in the outside bit of the restaurant and when it got a little cold my boyfriend asked if they had any space inside and then realised that we had our food coming out so informed them that it...wasn’t necessary but thanks anyway. We were then accused by some older short bob haired lady that we just moved without telling them and that we can get our own cutlery 😂 the rest of the staff aren’t much better to be honest.More

Wanted to take relatives to Maldon and read the reviews of this pub particularly as they had vegan options. Options is not what I would call it. Chilli nachos to start or chilli and rice for main course. So I ordered the vegan chilli nachos....When it came out with the other meals it was covered in cheese. I asked the waitress if it was vegan cheese which she said she would check. It was not vegan cheese. Why have a vegan option and the kitchen cover it in dairy? I sent it back and got the same back without any cheese so not bothered to have a replacement. Restaurants that offer vegan, vegetarian or GF should ensure their kitchen can produce them.More

Came here on my Birthday after walking the dogs as it overlooks the water. Waited whilst they served three tables who had all ordered after us but after chasing our order finally got our burgers. It’s £12 for burger chips and a side salad! Don’t...be fooled thinking it’s a steak burger because it’s not it’s so fatty there not a chance this burger is made from any form of steak! Also there’s nothing else in the burger! Literally every single burger you order anywhere comes with something else in but not this one! Not an onion or relish in sight just a plain dry fatty burger in a bun three times too big for the burger. Chips and salad were ok but even paying an extra price to have cheese and they use some value cheddar that was so dry and congealed clearly the reason we were kept waiting is cuz the burger was just sat there as, as soon as we asked they brought it straight out! Nearly £40 for a pint, two barely edible, dry, plain and dull burgers and glass of wine! Feel like I’ve been mugged! My advice is only use this place for a drink as they clearly don’t care about what they charge you or what they serve! I’ll be picking the burger out of my teeth for the rest of the day and I served most of it to my dogs! 🤣🤣🤣🤣More

We arrived at about four o clock on a wet March afternoon. All the staff greeted us warmly and we were soon seated at a window overlooking the water. The beer (Brewers Gold) was delicious and the atmosphere was convivial. The fish and chips ordered...arrived very quickly. It was hot and tasty. One of the staff (Carmen) was especially friendly, making sure that the food and drink was to our liking, and chatting knowledgably about a number of things. We left feeling very happy. The meal was excellent value for money, and the hospitality was excellent.More

I don’t think so! Guide Dogs certainly yes, but other than that, I would give them a call!
