We went for dinner Friday evening with a family group of 30. Unfortunately Josh and Tina were not around but the staff were pleasant. We had pre-ordered and our meals all arrived within a short time of each other. It is not easy catering for a party of 30 and other than a minor hiccup, (which was rectified immediately) everyone enjoyed their food. This is a pub serving good pub food, We had the dining area to ourselves which was very nice and the staff let everyone pay individually/couples/table etc. Thank you Josh and Tina.

Visited at lunchtime, fantastic place, food was amazing I had the vegetable Lasagne and my husband had cod and chip which he said was lovely, the Lasagne was delicious, homemade with garlic bread, the owner who served us was really friendly. Love the log burner added to the atmosphere. Toilets where spotless. Will definitely visit again.

We met some friends here who were staying in the area. As we wanted to bring dogs we double checked in advance and were told we could sit with them in the bar area - not a problem at all. Our booked table was ready when we arrived. Service was friendly and polite, and once we had ordered, drinks and food arrived quickly. The food was delicious and there was plenty of it. Everything was very reasonably priced - particularly since we ate from the lunch menu which had a deal on. Overall, a very nice, welcoming pub and we would use it again if we were in the area.

We visited with family just before Christmas for a evening meal, this was our second visit. It was surprisingly quiet for diners being before Christmas, but the bar was quite busy with people having a drink. We ordered our drinks at the bar, we normally like to to have a glass of wine with a meal and were very surprised that there was only three choices, red, white or rose. We were shown to our table and no one else was ordering any food. The pub has recently been refurbished but it still needs a little bit of TLC and looks a bit tired with curtains not hanging properly etc. It was clean and tidy, however, the tables were sticky from cleaning products and the placemats were stuck to the tables. The service we had was a little bit slow, and we waited 40 minutes for someone to take a dessert order before giving up and asking for the bill. Overall, the food is average pub food, although there is a fillet steak which is very good. The pub is in a great location, a stones throw from the A50. With a little more attention to detail, it could be a really good gastro pub, it definitely needs a better wine selection!

Hi Daisy. Thank you for your review it is much appreciated. We have recently taken over the Cavendish Arms and the decor inside isn't what we want and we are in the process of changing it all. We would like to do this as soon as possible but we haven't got the funds yet. As for the wine selection we have 3 selections red, white and rose. However in these selections we have 3 different kind of red, 4 different kinds of white and 2 different kinds of rose. I'm sorry your server did not make you aware of this. We are sorry about the tables being sticky from them being cleaned. We use a sanitiser/disinfectant on the tables and sometimes this can leave them a little sticky. We hope you'll visit the Cavendish again. Thank you.

We met friends here as it was halfway between us (drive of an hour and a half each) and the better reviews for the new owners encouraged us. Busy place and friendly enough staff, but food was appalling considering they ONLY serve a Sunday lunch on a Sunday. Beef was good, chicken was tough. Yorkshire puddings, roast potatoes and broccoli were seriously burnt or over cooked. The veggie option of the nut roast was returned as also burnt. At what point do they think serving cauliflower cheese clearly made with a rennet cheese is acceptable to a vegatarian? Also no veggie gravy or stock so meal incredibly dry. Very very unpleasant and complaint was met with you still have to pay but here’s a free glass of wine! No return meal for us.

Hi. I'm sorry about your experience with us. We just wanted to respond to your review. First of all we only serve Sunday lunch on a Sunday because the size of our kitchen. We would love to serve the full menu on a Sunday however it is just not possible. As for your meals we can only apologise. We are very busy on a Sunday and rarely get our roast wrong. One of our waitresses did a check back on your table and the only feedback we got was that the nut roast was slightly over done. If the rest of your table had stated that there meals were also not OK we could of done more for you on the day. Maybe even done all fresh dinners. Also we make our cauliflower cheese with cheddar so it is vegetarian friendly. We also offer vegetarian gravy but we're told you would like your meal without gravy. We Hope you will come and try our restaurant again. This our first complaint we've had about our Sunday dinners and can assure you it is definitely a one off. Please feel free to give us a call to discuss the matter further. Sorry again for your experience. Thank you, Josh & Tina.

Popped down last minute for a drink to watch the fireworks and ended up staying for food. We both ordered 10oz rump steak which was served to perfection, was delicious. Service was great and the food came out promptly! Will be back again!

Family group of nine people with a wide age range (i.e. 32 to 80) had a great meal. The menu offered a good choice without being stupidly vast. The food was well-presented and excellently prepared. We had a late lunch / early dinner and so the restaurant was not busy. Service was not rushed, suggesting that the food was being properly prepared rather than re-heated from the freezer. Everyone had an enjoyable meal in an environment which encouraged a good craic. We will visit again.

Very quiet, but we did go early. Food was freshly prepared and piping hot. Chicken pieces, chips and baked beans for our grandson. Fish, chip and mushy peas for my husband. Chicken fajitas for myself. Great food and reasonably priced. Friendly staff. A great place to try.

We visited the Cavendish on a Saturday lunch. Pub was cosy and warm with the real fire. Myself and husband both ordered the rib eye steak, which were excellent quality and a good taste. My husband finished off with a Bakewell tart with custard. I wish I had ordered pudding as well. Friendly bar staff. We will return soon.

Went here for dinner as we were staying nearby and what a find. The food was amazing, the staff welcoming and very reasonably priced. The only negative is the service was a little slow as they were very busy, but it was well worth the wait. Can highly recommend.

Since Josh and Tina took over this place has transformed into a proper nice country pub. It's welcoming, clean, the beer is great, the food is excellent. We generally eat here once a week and have never had a bad meal. Long may it continue.

We visited as we were staying locally to go to Alton towers so we booked in for dinner. Went up a bit early and played darts and had a few drinks in the nice new outdoor area then went in for dinner which was superb, lovely steaks and puddings, good choice of beer too and really nice staff. Loved it

My wife and I went here for the first time since we moved to the village a few years ago. We both had duck as unfortunately they had run out of game pies. The meal was delicious and easily the best duck I’ve had in years. It’s a lovely little pub with friendly service and we look forward to eating here many more times in the future.
